Avoid if you can. More expensive than others services. The process has taken way longer than I ever would have expected.

I imagine that these guys can do data recovery, but there is no chance that I would do business with them. When my hard drive crashed I contacted them to see about having them repair it of retrieve the data. From there online presence, you would think that they are local, but when I called them they said that I would have to send the drive to their lab which was out of state and that it would take several weeks to get back to me with a free estimate. They also stated that it sounded like it would cost between $500.00 and $1650.00 to repair it. Since I really wanted quick service, I decided to shop around. I found a "real" local service, called CCW, that was able to look at the drive the next day. They not only were able to evaluate the drive right away, but were able to fix it for $140.00 and had it done within three days of the first call. I would have just left them a great review, and moved on, however, I got a call from this company today following up on my initial contact. . . The rep asked if I was still interested in recovery and I told her of my great experience with the local company and contrasted it with what I had experienced with them, she proceeded to disparage the competitor, saying that I was lucky that it was an easy fix and that I should be happy that it wasn't more extensive as they would have surly ruined the media if that had to open the drive. I found this to be extremely unprofessional! I have worked in IT related business for many years. A long time ago I had to use a data recovery service, but my job was mostly to pull and ship the drive, then chide someone for failing to back up. I did not see the cost of this service, but I gathered it was a lot. My experience led some friends to to contact me when they had a notebook disk fail with some important, un-backed up pictures on it. I tried all my tricks to no avail. I put the disk into an external bay and could hear the tell-tale tick of a mechanical problem, and was led to Google data recovery. I came to SecureDataRecovery.com based only on reviews. I contacted them with all the specs on the drive, and my troubleshooting steps, but they were unable to estimate the cost without examining the device. I did see the clause that if I sent it in, there was a charge of about $20 to get it back, even if I took no other services, but forged ahead. SecureData sent a shipping label, and I packed it up with a box and some wrap we had around, then dropped at FedEx without an issue. The got it a day or two later, and let me know. It took another day or two to get an estimate. It was much higher than expected (north of $1600), so I asked to get the drive sent back. Upon this request I was informed there was lower priority option that could cost less if I wanted to peruse that. I agreed to get that estimate, and this was just under $700, which the owners found a little steep, but accepted. I needed to provide them a new drive to return the data. I found that it would be about $12 to FedEx a drive there, but there was a sale on Sandisk thumbdrives on Amazon. I got a 128G for about $10, checked that it was a gift, put my name and order number on the gift receipt, and had it shipped straight to them. They got it no worries, and a couple of days later the data arrived. My friends reviewed their data, and the irreplaceable pictures were all there, and in the end everyone was happy. read more

After my Hard Drive Crashed, I was excited this company had a "local office" but found upon arriving that they only have a drop location. I had looked at other companies, but this place looked like the real deal. My drive was sent off to the recovery facility, and I was called about what was needed to recover the drive. They were going to have to replace the drive heads, and get a donor board. It would probably be about $1400 to recover. They called me with the quote. I told them I would talk to my wife. We agreed that what was lost was not worth that much money. I emailed back that it was too much money. He called me again, and asked me to determine how much I could afford, and he would run it by his boss. OK, so there are two red flags. After thinking about it for a while I paid $25 to have the drive returned to me. Best money spent, because I went with someone else, and it cost just over $300 to recover the data without having to negotiate a price. I tried this company even though I was skeptical, big mistake. This company has a front office, but does not actually do any business in Utah. They advertise a free diagnostic and guarantee that there is a no data, no recovery fee on their website. The range of pricing for a single laptop drive recovery was between $399 - $2000. They would not give me any idea of a smaller range even after I explained the symptoms (I expect they could probably guess my problem - I could). So feeling I had nothing to loose I dropped off my drive. We got the estimate back in one day which I was impressed with. However the estimate was almost $1900. When I contacted them to get the drive returned they told me that there is a $25 fee to return the drive. They told me it is all over their website (I went back and checked and I couldn't find it anywhere) and that it was in the contract I signed (when I signed the document I was told it was just to indicate I had dropped off my device -I guess I should have read it better). Since I do not have a copy I can't say it was their or not. The dishonesty in disclosing fees makes me not want to do any business with them. Everything else went ok, but I just refuse to do business with dishonest companies. Edit: I received a call from the Quality Assurance team the day after I left this review. They have been more than helpful to get my issue resolved. They indicated that it is company policy to disclose the shipping charges in the event that no service is performed, but I was not made aware. They told me that their representative would receive training. Also they did provide me a copy of my contract and it does say "If the Client elects not to proceed with the data recovery process... the client will be responsible for all return shipping, handling costs." Fortunately, my story has a happy ending. When my hard drive crashed (it was only two years old), I was horrified to find out that my external hard drive did not have any of my data, pics and videos for the past 3 years. I took my PC hard drive to two different computer specialists, who couldn't retrieve my data. I was given a few different places to call, but I did some research online and found that SDRS. I was super skeptical because I didn't want to drop of my hard drive at some random location and not see where it went. Scary! But, I promptly received an email after dropping of my goods and was given access to my customer portal account. The portal keeps you updated on the status of the shipping and your data recovery. In addition, my customer service contact (Rob) was good at listening to me vent about how stressed I was and always returned my emails. Overall, the process took longer than I thought, but it was worth the wait. I knew going into it that it would cost a grundle--but what's great about their services is that you don't have to pay for any of it if it ends up being more than you can afford. My laptop hard drive crashed. I could boot off a DVD and a USB drive. However, Dell could not manage to walk me through restoring my Image Data Backup. After three days I pretty much gave up on Dell. Sure, they shipped me a new hard drive overnight. But even though I backed up regularly, I could not get my data back. All my tax data was on that drive. So much for going paperless. I googled and found that Secure Data Recovery had the best reputation, so I call them and was routed to Rob Anderson. He emailed me a FedEx label and I shipped the drive to him. They diagnosed what went wrong. They took the drive into a clean room and data platter by platter, sector by sector. They were fast, courteous, responsive to my many requests for status updates, they got the job done, and they have one very satisfied customer. Even though it was not inexpensive, when you absolutely need the data back, you absolutely have to go to Secure Data Recovery. Bob, you saved the day. And I took away a lesson. Mirror your drives. Don;t depend on being able to get your backup back. The cost of an additional drive or two is not much compared to getting back your data.
