Secret Caberns is a great excursion for almost everyone. You do have to be able to descend and ascend a pretty steep staircase, and walk-through the cave. I found the whole tour fascinating and interesting, and our guide was great about pointing out historical features. You are rewarded with an amazing waterfall at the end, and can meander back at your own pace. This place is cash only! Also, apparently tours run at the top of the hour. I could not find that information on any website, so be aware of that. Look for the ghosts! I would highly recommend this adventure. read more

Ghetto AF!! This place looks beat up, run down like something that belongs in a ghost town. The dude that runs it seems super chill but also looks like he just rolled out of bed and just finished smoking a blunt during his break! Nothing professional about this place, it just looks and feels rundown but the guy that runs it is definitely super chill. The cavern itself I will say was pretty much kept in its very natural state other than some modifications to make it fully accessible (e.g. cement stairs, widening of some cavern sections). So this cavern felt more "authentic" rather than commercialized for tourism. After visiting both local cavern attractions you can appreciate what both offer that's why I suggested just banging them both out during your visit to this ghost town because there really is nothing else to give a sensible human reason to drive into this area other than to venture into these caverns. read more

The best cave experience in the area. Laid-back, not too built-up. In fact, if you're a little claustrophobic, maybe not the best choice. They let you touch the walls, since from their point of view, so many people have been touching the walls for so many years, it's too late to hold back the impact. Expect walking, and stairs. A lot of people know about Howes Caverns, but not this gem right down the road! Secret Caverbs is a cheaper ticket price and shorter tour. It's definitely a steep walk underground and some tight squeezes, but we'll worth it to get to the 100 foot underground waterfall! I highly recommend checking it out! read more

I know the other cavern down the road is a bit better known and visited but really the Secret Cavern really is the place to be! HOWEVER! Go to the other one first to really appreciate this one! Visited both caverns on the strip this day and although secret cavern is smaller, we had a much better time with our guide Aiden and tour group by far! (4 of us already knew one another from the previous tour at the larger one too!) Got some fun facts about how it was discovered and such with some comedy relief on the side so what's not to love?! Our tour guide was funny and nice (Michael I think). The cave is very small and took us maybe 35-40 mins to walk down and see the waterfall at the end. It's not as impressive as other caves as other caves. There weren't a lot of formations either. It was cool to check out a new cave, but the structures marked weren't that great. The best part is the waterfall for sure. This cavern hours are posted on FB not on their rudimentary website. I emailed them and never heard back. I called and there was no answer. I did communicate via FB messenger and was informed the caves were open 11 am-3 pm. There are occasional posts on FB. read more

There's a well-known spot down the road from here that you may have heard of, but if you go there instead, you're missing the forest through the trees brother. Think of that spot as like, Target. Yeah it's big, it's well know, they got frills and parade out all the gimmicks, but are you getting quality products? This spot here, this is your boutique shop. This is you quality product curated by the experts. What's great about this cavern is that one can get some pretty dope pics down there, touch the various formations, and really take their time with all that there is to see. It's a very chill environment. The hosts are mad cool, they know their history (or maybe I fell for it) and seem to enjoy showing off the goods. BEST PLACE EVER SO MUCH HISTORY BEHIND IT THE OLDER FRONT DESK WORKER IS THE KINDEST GUY EVER AND COULD TALK TO YOU FOR EVER. came out to check out our car, told us all the ins and outs of the town, off roading spots, restaurants (which were SO GREAT) (the babbling brook resturaunt). Everything is genuine and lacks that fake feeling. Tour guide was super knowledgeable and fun, the cave itself is not too difficult, it's rich in history and is owned by tge Mallery family for about 100 years:) give this place your business so they could keep their ticket prices so low. No reservations needed. They could use the customers and they absolutely deserve it. Surrounding town is rural and nothing immaculate but the place itself was wonderful. Touring Secret Caverns was a riveting experience filled with natural underground wonders such as a 100-foot waterfall! The guide was informative and educational, whom shared an onslaught of knowledge throughout the duration of the tour. The subterranean cavern is filled with various formations, sheets, drippings, stalactites and limestone! Traveling below the earth's surface is naturally foreign therefore exciting of coarse. I had done this tour once before and it was great so I brought friends along this time. WHAT A DISAPPOINT. The man at the register said the tour is about to start so I go to put my purse in the car I come back and he said head on down. I get down the stairs there's no tour guide or group. When I finally meet up with the tour guide and the group the tour is over. I paid to walk the cave with my friends and that's it. They didn't get to hear the facts or stories about the cave. Poor execution on the staffs behalf. If there is no group waiting at the top of the stairs don't bother going down. Wait for the next tour so you don't waste your time. read more

Who knew there were these massive caves in upstate New York. They are really remarkable and a must see. We looked at several other caves but did not have two hours for a boat ride, hike and all that jazz so we decided to go to secret caverns. My husband and I went here and really enjoyed it. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!!! The atmosphere was awesome, someone's paints all over in front. I really think this Cavern is more like small business compare to Howe Cavern that is more like commercialized. The guide was relaxing and friendly , yet very knowledgeable, he pays attention to everyone, and most importantly he seemed to enjoy what he does. Cave was small,and the ground is like as is, all natural, water streak goes where you walk, and yes that is what adventure is all about! You need to bring good sneakers,flip flops could be hard to walk in the cavern. The water fall was beautiful. One lady offered to take my family picture, so we were able to have a good picture as memory. Yes, people you meet here are nice, too. I loved all things about this cave!! read more

100-foot underground waterfall. Breathtaking natural wonder. I don't think so. This place was not discovered by human, yet two rebellious cows that departed from their herd. Aha! We visited on a hot summer day when the temperature outside was 95F. So it felt like stepping into another world as the temperature underground much more fresh and cooler than above. Summer of 2009, we went camping and took a trip over to Howes Cavern. On the way, we saw these fantastic billboards advertising Secret Caverns, and vowed that on our next trip up we would go to them. And we did!!! Love those billboards so much. We all agreed they were missing out on a great opportunity with their tshirts. They only had one design, but they have so many fantastic billboards that could make tshirts too! Anyway, it was a rainy day, so perfect for indoor exploration. Our guide was a girl, maybe just out of high school or home from college for the summer... she was very nice and informative though. The caverns were awesome. Group was small, just my friends and myself (Howe was a large group with annoying children). Loved the dank wetness. Much more closed in, natural, and wet than Howe. Felt more like real cavern exploring. The waterfall was awesome!!! I liked both caverns equally... they were different experiences. I recommend both!! read more

We went to Howe's Cavern in the morning, and while it's much bigger than Secret Caverns the tour guide there was boring. The tour guide we had at Secret Cavern (Scott?) was funny and knew a ton about caves and geology. The underwater waterfall was neat as was the Suspended Ceiling and Headache Rock. Stopped at Howe Caverns first and asked the counter person about Secret Caverns and he said "we have a lake, they have a waterfall. Secret caverns is a bit more...rustic" in a voice suggesting that was a bad thing... If I'm going to a cave, it better be rustic! So my beau and I headed over to Secret Caverns where were greeted by a lovely staff. The tour guide was really funny and provided an informative tour for a small group. Very cool experience! Not a place to spend hours at but a very cool little roadside detour! The waterfall isn't Niagara Falls here, but it is so neat to see and looks like it is just falling out of the ceiling. Even cooler, the water flows about two miles before finding its way back above ground! Tour guides are quirky and entertaining. If everyone in your group is cool with it, they may even let you experience feeling your way back without lights or with just flashlights. Total darkness is crazy! Also there are lots of great photo ops around the premises. Where sturdy shoes and comfy clothes. It gets damp and slippery in there! read more

I visited Secret Caverns with my family on Halloween and we ALL really LOVED it. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun at the same time. The cave system is amazing, the gift shop is awesome, our tour guide was knowledgeable and super cool too! We actually went down with the electric lights on, but came back up only by candlelight lanterns!! The tour wasn't too long or too hard for my adventurous 5 and 7-year old kids, they had a blast and we highly recommend it for the whole family! If I could I would give another 5 stars for the roadside artwork and murals, it is really special and something that should NOT be overlooked!!! read more

Cavern visual was amazing. Kids really loved that portion of it.. The reason for the three stars is that they packed out the tour with our party to make it about 20+ people... But from the girl tour guide who wasn't effective at enunciating or projecting her voice it would probably be only good for about 10 people. This is because the caverns are narrow and you wind up being all the way in back when she talks. This didn't seem to be a concern for her either so we missed 95% of what she said. At least the kids enjoyed it though as there was a lot to take in. Another issue is the lighting is automated to conserve energy and really only lights up enough room for about the first 15 people... so our back 5 was usually in shadows or almost no light at all... almost a safety hazard as there are rocks that hang low that you can hit your head,... as we did. One more thing... the bathrooms are about as bad as your typical smelly unkept gas station restrooms... like hold your breath bad. But if you can take it all in stride you can appreciate the beauty of the cavern itself. read more

I just happened to stumble across Secret Cavern and saw that it was open and something my 4 year old celebrating his birthday would love. Our guide, Matt, was knowledgeable and funny. This attraction is quirky, educational, and a lot of fun. From the second you arrive, the hand painted signs and building are intriguing and unique(and according to one of the guides, another employee is the one who does all the original artwork) and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The price for the guided tour, which lasts about 45 minutes to an hour-ish, is affordable, and we only had to wait 15 minutes before we got to go. The tour guide was funny while still being able to teach about the history of the caverns and the various rock formations within. He pointed out various points of interest along the way, and there are plenty of cool things to photograph. (and photography is allowed throughout the entire tour, as much as you like) You are allowed to get up close and personal with all aspects of the tour, including being able to touch anything, which makes the whole experience very interactive and genuine. They also have a gift shop, snacks and restrooms. The gift shop had some cool finds, like the poster featuring secret caverns themed artwork, designed by one of their own employees. (which I definitely bought!) Some tips for first time visitors: wear comfortable, preferably closed toe shoes, because the rock surfaces are wet and places can be slippery, and it's possible to accidentally step into a puddle. Definitely bring a light jacket or sweater, because down in the caverns it gets to be pretty chilly, I believe the average temperature is 50-55 degrees down there. All in all, Secret Caverns is an awesome pit stop for anyone, and I recommend it for a anyone looking for a genuine experience of caverns left in their natural state. Amazing find!! read more

Overall it was a beautiful cavern. The tour however was a bit odd..... This was due to the teenage tour guides that we had. They kept cracking jokes most of the time, I understand it was for comedic effect. I just didn't find them funny.... If I'm ever in the area again I would try a different cavern. read more

First off to really appreciate this place I suggest you go to Howe's Caverns first! I know that sounds weird but after you have the tour at Howe's the Secret Caverns is a lot more hands on and more of a closer experience of the caverns and the underground water fall was well worth it!!!! Our tour guide was young but a lot of fun and full of knowledge. Also there is a active military discount of $2 off. All in all it was a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!! read more

Visited the secret caverns today. Amazing place. Definitely worth a visit. Go down a 100ft through amazing rock and cave formations and end up at a gorgeous underground waterfall. Truly beautiful (and a bit scary at times). Out guide - the "caveman" (who is also associated with the sheriff department) was amazingly passionate and talked about the history, other caves around etc and was truly fun to talk to.
