As someone with European roots, I felt the history of the fairytale home coupled with the contemporary amenities and the most loving hosts. If you are looking for a small, quaint, and very special ceremony with the focus on only the two of you, this is your place. We glanced into each other's eyes during the ceremony and never stopped being mesmerized with each other through this day. We couldn't have asked for better hosts--- An older couple who truly understand everlasting love (which is the only love that belongs in the Storybook Cottage). As a bonus, we had the most caring and perfect photographer (recommended by the hosts). We will always remember this special day (completed with the most delicious breakfast) and hope to return for many anniversaries to come--- It is very difficult to find the perfect spouse. I believe she mentioned that we were her first public tour, and she has been chartering the private tours for three years. She was amazing!!! Lots of energy. We took the small Pontoon boat due to a private party on the larger boat, but I think we all preferred the small boat anyway. Erie Canalway and its soothing, calm waters below beckon lots of outdoor folks; boaters, kayakers, fishermen and families. The signs all over explain the multiple important aspects for industry in the Cohoes area, which since time immemorial was a nexus for textile manufacturing and bleaching. The waterfalls (and their inertia) were used to power vast factories that produced and bleached shirts, bed linens, clothing, shoes, suits, hats and most important of all, collars for men's business shirts. Erie Canalway is the beginning of a long and vast Westward canal and trench way that stretches all the way to Syracuse and Rochester. Our room (Green Room) was decent sized, had AC, an electric fireplace, and a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was served right at the scheduled time and was excellent. Day one was waffles, bacon, and fruit. Our second and last day led us to a nice quiche with sausage and homemade crumb cake...drool. Preston took the time to sit and converse with us while we are and made a real effort to get to know us. We loved hearing some of his stories about the house and about the area. I highly recommend the Lewis house as an alternative to pricier chain hotels in downtown Saratoga and as another option to camping or staying at a motel. You will not be disappointed.

Mr Lewis and his wife were so friendly and made us feel right at home. He cut me fresh pussy willows from the garden to take home. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The Lewis House is walking distance to the village of Ballston Spa and about 10 drive to downtown Saratoga Springs and the racetrack. We will def be back for racing season!

The front door is a keyless entry that uses a code provided by Tina before arriving. I stayed at the more inexpensive Oatman room on the second floor which requires sharing a full bath and a half bathroom on the first floor with the Dunphy room. A bit of an inconvenience but definitely manageable and both bathrooms were immaculate and had clean towels and a soap dispenser. For $60 a night, I can't complain. The Oatman room had two twin beds, a desk, dresser and a bit dated TV with VCR. Didn't really mind since the place included free wifi for me to connect my tablet. Also the closet had plenty of hangers and also bathrobes. One thing I should've brought were slippers and perhaps shower shoes. Morning breakfast was great and I got to meet the few other guests as Tina took our orders and made a delicious over easy eggs with ham and blueberry pancakes. There was also the continental breakfast variety of coffee, pastries, and juice but with the more personal touch. I look forward to booking a room again!
