Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground - Campgrounds Near Me - Cooperstown, New York

Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground is conveniently located close to the Baseball Hall of Fame, breweries, and other interesting attractions. Sites are level and many are shaded. They have a pool and a pond for catch and release fishing.  Unfortunately, the infrastructure is not able to handle a full campground during hot weather. Multiple times during our stay my surge protector shut off power to my RV due to significantly low voltage (104 or below) from the post. I reported the problem and the owners confirmed it was an issue and their maintenance guy was working on it, but said it's an older campground and can't handle everyone running their air conditioning. Water pressure was low and there was non-existent wifi.   Nice people and good location, but improvements to handle all the campers are needed. read more

We are just finishing our first seasonal year at Shadowbrook and cannot wait for next season to start! The campground is just beautiful. It is just the right size for making friends with other seasonals as well as campers just passing through, not so big you feel lost in the crowd. There is a pool for swimming and well stocked pond for fishing. The campground offers just the right mix of activities and quiet time to just relax. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. And the best part is the owners, Ellen and Gary. You arrive as campground guests and leave as part of their family. We cant recommend Shadowbrook enough. read more

We had a great time staying at the campsite and renting a cabin. The bed was comfy, and the cabin had everything we needed -from a coffee maker to a blow drier . The owners were extremely responsive. We just stayed 3 nights in our 34' motorhome, using this as a base camp to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. From the moment we pulled up, we felt welcomed as Ellen was outside and warmly greeted us. Ellen checked me in while Gary helped my husband fill our propane tank and guide him into our side, A2. During check-in, Ellen went over and above sharing tourist tips, places to eat, etc. I really appreciated that! Sometimes RV owners act as if you are bothering them! Ellen and Gary are new owners and it's obvious they take great pride in their property. The pool is pristine, as are the grounds. There's a super cool arcade for the kiddos and young at heart, and lots of doggie waste disposal spots. And get this: in your confirmation email they mention to let them know if there are no planned activities during your stay, let them know if you'd like a particular activity planned for your kid. Who does that??? Warm, hospitable people, that's who!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is we enjoyed our site until a mammoth 5th wheel was parked next to us and they were somewhat on top of us, blocked an open view, and their air conditioner was super loud. I wish they could have been accommodated somewhere else since there were a lot of open sites but maybe that's where the campers specifically wanted to be. We would definitely recommend you stay with Gary and Ellen while you are in the Cooperstown area! read more

Can't say enough good things about this campground. We stayed for a week and this is one of the nicest places to camp. Tent, trailer, class a, and cabins are all welcome. Staff is friendly and helpful. Store is well stocked. Pool was beautiful and clean. We will definitely camp here again if we are anywhere in the region. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Shadow Brook. It was a 2-night stay in a travel trailer. Our site was right on the lake which made for evenings sitting by the fire and watching the sunset and wildlife. The location is close to Cooperstown so we were able to go back and forth with ease. What a great town! A very nice place to stay. No reservations about recommending your stay there. read more

Definitely recommend this campground. It's mainly an RV/cabin spot but there are some secluded tent areas. Bathrooms and water are nearby, very clean and friendly staff! Close proximity to everything you'd want to see around Cooperstown - it's a great spot! read more

Really nice campground, really nice site BUT - website and paperwork hand out notes " additional parking". When we checked in I mentioned we brought our 16' fishing boat (note row boat with motor) and said we should probably park in additional parking area. The male staff (not sure owner, manager, general park cop) looked at me like I was speaking a different language. Instead he assigned us a new "site" at $135, in the middle of 8 empty sites with standing water that were unusable for any campers. Many empty sites around the grounds, would have cost him NOTHING to allow us to park on our site (didn't want the boat on grass - trailer and 2 cars OK on grass, just not boat) or any other empty site. Then it seemed he was watching every move, tried to park for the pool across from parking area and he RAN out to say we could not park there - no other available parking. WILL NEVER GO AGAIN. Man was very rude about information on using boat on Otsenango lake. Just an amazing rude and arrogant interaction. PS, site across from us had 3 cars vs. rules of only 2 with no issues, could barely park at our site. read more

Just got back from a stay at Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground. Very pretty campground, friendly people, campsites very nice. One disappointment, the shower and bathroom facilities. Could have been MUCH cleaner. Shower drains were full of hair and bathrooms really need to be cleaned more often if you have many people using them. Otherwise, nice campground. read more

My husband and I rented a basic cabin for our vacation for our anniversary here. Was very peaceful and quiet, had a perfect view of the pond. Didn't care much for having to get up and walk to the restrooms in the middle of the night though, so next time will have to rent a deluxe cabin or have a camper by the next time. Soap wasn't refilled in the one restroom from the 2nd day there. Other then that the stay was great. Will be back..thanks again read more

We've been camping for a few years now and always compare everyplace we go to Shadow Brook. Great location, pretty scenery, pond, pool, nice owners and people, and peaceful. There's a road that goes around the property that you can walk your dog or ride your bike. Perfect for a morning walk! Highly recommend! read more

We rented a Log cabin for the week and it is cosy. At night you can see all of the stars. Kids had a great time in the pool. The surroundings are immaculate. The bathrooms are spotless. The owners Kathy and her husband are very friendly and helpful. Beats staying in a hotel in the heart of Cooperstown. A lot more affordable and have kid friendly activities. read more

This campground was a great find! It is in a beautiful part of New York and only about 15 mins from Cooperstow, NY, which is a charming little town that you can happily spend the day exploring. Frank was great from the minute we pulled in and escorted us to our campsite. He was friendly and gave us tips on our older motorhome (he used to own a similar one). He would buzz by often checking to see if we needed anything. The facilities are all spotless and well maintaine. The campground is very dog friendly and kid friendly! We will hopefully be back again! read more

Wonderfully run campground close to Cooperstown (so says my friend Ian). Went & enjoyed our stay.

This is a very pleasant campground. The grounds are well maintained and the layout provides a private "among the trees" feel to camping- very park-like. The owners are very nice and create a friendly, family atmosphere. For example making tie-dye t-shirts and wagon rides with Santa. Also, the game room and rec room are filled with activities for all ages (including a book library). The lake is pretty with catch and release fishing, birds and rental boats. The pool is clean and refreshing- it is not large but easily fit over a dozen kids and adults without a problem. Connected to the pool is a nice deck with reclining chairs and some tables that makes for a good place to relax and keep an eye on swimmers. The bathrooms and showers were very clean with plenty of free hot water! Drinking the water, however, did not leave the best aftertaste. The location is close to Cooperstown and Otsego Lake with quite a few museums and rural attractions and events. A Price Chopper grocery store is only about 15 minutes in Richfield Springs. My only issue was a lack of good, free WiFi. With an AT&T phone, we were totally in the digital dark. Not totally the campground's fault, it is just good to know. read more

Why do I even have to give a star to this place to post a review? Wish I could give it zero! I have camped many times and in many locations and dealt with many camp owners and campers themselves and never had a worse experience.....the owners Frank and Kathy are the most unprofessional and rude people I have ever encountered....the list is so long of reasons to try another campground before ever stepping foot on this one....rude owners, made to feel like we must be quiet at all times, not pet friendly even though they claim it, campsites too close together, no privacy, unfriendly atmosphere, grounds were very rocky, unstable trees(limbs falling at times for no reason almost injuring a child), appliances not working properly etc.... I urge you to read the other reviews that talk about the owners and their bad behavior toward the paying customer as you will see a very specific pattern....unprofessional and rude! They are downright mean and nasty people. I guess we should have realized that from the start when first encountering Kathy and left before even unpacking!! read more

We booked 2 sites.The rv site was on the corner, a 24 footer just fit. It was all rock. The fire pit was 12 inches from the road. The tent site was so small the next site had their truck parked on it. It was right in front of the bath rooms so everyone just end walked through. When we showered there were 4 showers only one worked. Not saying it was terrible but it is defintly not an award winning spot. read more

Camped here Aug 5-8, 2016. This is a great campground. Bathrooms were spotless, showers clean, and the grounds were nicely tended. Clearly the owners take pride in their campground. We bought a $30 supply of firewood from the office and it was delivered by the owner right to our site ( it was more than enough for 3 nights of fires). When he mentioned it was supposed to rain that night he came back with a tarp for us to borrow to keep the wood dry. We didn't swim but the pool looked nice. We had our RV but couldn't help but notice the adorable cabins for rent and the really nice wooded tent sites. We got the last full hook up sure available for that weekend and as such it wasn't one of the better sites but it was fine. It was very level and even so easy to park the RV. My only complaint of the entire weekend would be the cheap plastic topped picnic tables. Ours was crooked and had a big split in the top and someone had written "nothing hot" on the top- there was a big melted spot on the surface where someone clearly hadn't followed those directions. We really couldn't use the picnic table but I'm betting the owners would have swapped it out for a better one if we asked. I would definitely go here again! read more

The place itself was fine sites were small and like other reviewer stated they are right on top of each other but there are so many other camping options in the area with owners that are appreciative and respectful. Frank and Kathy were rude right from the entry paperwork through the entire stay. We left early simply to get away from them. Save yourself the aggravation. read more

If your looking for a nice weekend get away, then Shadowbrook campground is NOT the place! I have never met more unprofessional people in all my life. If you decide to go and not heed our warning......Do not bring your dog unless you want to be met with inappropriate comments from fellow campers and the owners during your stay. After being met with a rude tone from Frank about our dog (yes, he was barking for 1 hour during the day at 1 in the afternoon), we did our best to acclimate the dog to the new environment and he settled himself, we were made to feel incredibly uncomfortable and on edge with a mere utter from the dogs for the remainder of our stay. Also, when our friend attempted to tell Frank that his refrigerator in the $150/night cabin wasn't working properly, he attempted to drive away and was more concerned about attending to all of the other problems on the site so that his reservations for the next day were resolved. (Our $300 for a 2 nights stay apparently wasn't worth his time or attention). After being asked to quiet our dog down our children were in the recreation room overhearing the owner (Kathy) talking to fellow campers about our obnoxious dogs and were speaking negatively about our family. Apparently our $300 was good enough for them to put in their pocket tho...... They even went so far as saying that our "pit bull" was muzzled. #1- we don't have a pit bull, she is an American bulldog mix (had they had the maturity to clarify with us as opposed to talk about us to others, I could have provided them with the additional paperwork from her adoption which lists her as an American bulldog mix. Mind you I had to provide them with paperwork at time of check in which incorrectly had her listed as a pit bull mix, which they happily accepted along with our money. #2, she was wearing a gentle leader (not a muzzle) which was recommended to us from our dog trainer who recommends them to help young dogs not jump during walks (a dog can breath, drink and eat while wearing one and it's not harmful in any way). Business owners should not badmouth their customers to other customers in an open environment where others could over hear, especially the customers children......and then when confronted with it, say that the children were lying......really, so UNPROFESSIONAL and totally distasteful. Despite this experience we are using it was a teaching moment for our children......1) there are ignorant people in this world 2) as a paying customer it is ok to expect a certain degree of professional behavior from any business and their staff 3) How you handle a situation speaks volumes about your integrity. Thank you Frank and Kathy for teaching my child how NOT to behave-they learned a valuable lesson. read more
