Our first visit to Glen Highland Farm and it won't be our last. We stayed in a Deluxe RV. We had wanted a tent but they were all taken. This ended up being a positive as we were a lot closer to the Hound Hub. This is the kitchen/socializing area. They supply everything there except the food Our dog Gabby absolutely loved the experience. And we loved being able to give it to her. To let her roam without a leash was a truly wonderful experience. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine, and a dog biscuit. John one of the co-owners took us around on an escorted The staff were incredibly friendly. And loved their work. It is easy to see walking around how much time and effort goes into maintaining the grounds. This is a pretty magical place to spend some time in the summer, especially if you have a dog. Miles of well-manicured trails dotted with rest stops and water stations. Open meadows, a meandering river, a secluded pond, and gorgeous wooded trails. Hundreds of acres that are well-fences so your dogs can be off leash as much as they want. If you'd like to enjoy a vacation with your furry best friend in the out doors off leash The Getaway at Glen Highland Farm is the place to go if your dog is friendly and socialized They offer (4)tents tucked in the woods away from base camp which is a 10 minute walk, (2)cabins located hillside in the woods, (3)cottages backed up to the woods on an open field, and (7)RV'S for those that prefer to have plumbing, heat and AC with views of an endless cleared field. Also,full hook ups for those who have their own RV's. They require at least a 2 night stay and 100% of the money supports the Border Collie Rescue that is located next to the getaway. Just bring linens/sleeping bag,toiletries,towel, food/ aluminum foil and beverages. The covered Hound Hub is next to the storage building were there are refrigerators, utensils/plates, coffee maker, games, etc. Bring on your culinary creativity for the open pit grill or the BBQ. 175 acre play land, a dream for every dog. Hiking, chilling, swimming agility, new experiences, socialization, LOTS of exercise and mental stimulation. Your pup will sleep hard by days end. We have met the nicest people and canines from all over. Our lab was just a puppy on our first visit and this is were she learned to swim. The following year learned to dock dive, and the 3rd year completed the agility course on her own. Our dogs LOVE GHF, and so do we. I have not had such a wonderful and memorable vacation in 5 years. I consider GHF heaven on earth for dogs and their people. I was so sick and bored of the dog camp thing. Whenver I came back, I needed a vacation from the agility, luring and scheduled mealtimes. Here at GHF I did what I love, spends time with my dogs, hike, read, drink wine, swim and cook with some awesome people. I will become yearly transplant here from this year forward. Just returned home from Glen Highland Farm. Can't wait to go back... (currently planning a stay for next year :). It was our first visit and we had an awesome time!!! The minute we pulled in (we drove thru the night from Naples, FL) we were greeted by a volunteer who couldn't be more enthusiastic!! One of the staff, John, showed us to our RV which was clean and comfy! He was so kind! He helped us unpack our car top carrier and brought our stuff to the RV. (which we had way too much of!! ...guess this is common for newbies) Shortly after that John (different John, the owner) took us on a tour of the property. WOW! acres and acres of the most beautiful land! Well kept and very organized...there are stations where you can get water for yourself and for your dog, chairs, hammocks, lounges to recline on, Butternut Creek, Bull Frog Pond, Garden of Resting Spirits, trails designed by some of the many Border Collie residents...the list goes on and on!! An agility field, Frisbee area, trails, trails and more trails. One of my favorite spots was up on a hill that overlooks the Rescue Barn, the RVs, the Connor House, Agility field and Magic's Meadow. But the best part was having a chance to get to know my young BC mix. It is a doggie wonderland! He was off leash most of the time and enjoyed running, searching, digging, rolling, swimming, exploring, and playing with some of the other visitors and residents. I was hoping he would matured a little on this trip, and to my delight...he did !! :) At meal time everyone gathers around in the pavilion to prepare their meals. We met some really nice people that I hope we can keep in touch with and maybe plan to see again. Here the facilities are also kept clean and well stocked with all of the items you need to prepare your meal. A great place to visit with new friends and enjoy a glass of your favorite beverage while the doggies play (they provide a bucket of balls and Frisbees for the dogs!). It was at the pavilion where we were joined by John and Lillie owners of GHF. They stopped in to visit and asked us how our stay was. It was great talking with them and hearing how GHF came to be this fantastic vacation place as well as one of the best Border Collie rescues in the country. Everyday we would run into staff members who asked if we needed anything and how our day was going. Special thanks to Jos and Mary!! Plan to take your dog(s) to this fantastic farm!! Not only are you helping to support a wonderful cause, you will also experience the most restful and enjoyable time with your four footed friend(s)! I adopted my border collie from GHF two years ago and decided to go back for a visit with my dog. I just came back from the most amazing Canine Country Getaway weekend. Will definitely be going back. I was very surprised by the low rating on Yelp. The facilities were top-notch, lovely, and clean. They thought of everything - all needs were met. The staff was friendly and informative and you can tell that they truly love the farm and making guests feel at home. We stayed in a little cabin in the woods and it was perfect. The dogs were in heaven. The tour of the rescue facility was inspiring. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. There is always next year. Thank you Lillie and John! read more

The Getaway at Glen Highland Farm is the perfect spot to relax with your dogs! This is my third year coming and I will keep coming back! The trails are nicely maintained and the scenery is beautiful. There is so much room to let the dogs run around, swim and lots of hiking trails. The staff is nice and accommodating. The bathrooms and kitchen area were kept clean and stocked. We stayed in the Cabins and they were pretty clean and spacious for cabins! No complaints! read more

The mission of this establishment is to rescue Border Collies and they do a wonderful job with that. One can visit and bring one's dogs on vacation for a 2 night minimum. The farm is approximately 200 acres and is fenced in so that dogs can be safely "off leash." There are ponds and streams for people and dogs to swim and wade in, toys and agility equipment to use, and a well equipped cooking "Pavilion." One can rent a cottage, an RV, or bring your own camper. We rented an RV for a cost of $275 per night, this was the least expensive option. When I started to unpack my food I found that the refrigerator was dirty and I started to clean it. When the owner came by to give us a tour of the camp I told him that I wasn't ready to go because I was cleaning. A short while later the executive director came by and offered us an upgrade to a better and newer RV saying that staff would pack us up and move us. We thanked her and said of course! We had to pack ourselves up but staff moved us. I would have been delighted except that the "better" RV also had cleanliness issues as well - some quite serious. The worst was an infestation of larvae on the toilet seat! I know that part of the rental price goes to support the dog rescue operation but nowhere were we told that this was a non-profit and what part of our fee could be deducted from our taxes. I expected a much better effort at cleaning the RV, especially at the prices charged. Our dog did have a very nice time but not enough of one to make us want to return. 8/9/13 RESPONSE TO LILLIE'S COMMENTS POSTED 8/8/13 Some people like or even love a place and some don't. That's what happens when you run a business. However, to respond to a bad review with misstatements, hyperbole, suppositions, and disingenuous remarks as Lillie did is beyond the pale; and, I must respond to set the record straight and lower my rating to one star. Just a friendly suggestion, perhaps Lillie should review the guidelines for reviews posted by business owners since I think that she exceeded the limits set forth in those. Yes, the upgrade was offered at no charge as it should have been and I did not suggest otherwise. I looked at the upgraded RV very quickly since the owner was waiting to give us our tour, I did not "inspect [sic] it carefully." I did have a positive response to it, and, maybe even said that it was "great" because it looked better than our original accommodations - it was newer, bigger, and brighter. I did not check out the interior of the refrigerator, which required cleaning. On our second day there, Lillie and a friend were walking by quickly on ONE occasion, while I was outside deeply absorbed in painting. She asked how everything was and I said, "fine," since I was not going to start complaining about things that I had already cleaned and was not going to move again - besides, I was concentrating on painting and wanted to enjoy myself as much as possible at this point. It was NOT an overwhelming endorsement of anything. That night, our second and LAST night at the camp, there was a thunderstorm and we lost power around 9 or 10 PM. It was around then that I went to use the toilet and went into the bathroom with my flashlight and saw the larvae. I lifted the seat and saw that there was a total infestation of them. This does NOT happen all of a sudden, eggs take a while to gestate and hatch, so they were there BEFORE we checked in. There was no cell phone reception in the area and I wouldn't call someone at 10 PM anyway for something that I was able to clean-up with the bleach product they had supplied under the kitchen sink, so that is what I did. I don't know what Lillie would have wanted me to do but I did what I considered the sensible thing to do even though it was disgusting and gross; besides we had to checkout the next morning by 11 AM. I wasn't about to checkout in the middle of the night in a thunderstorm and ask for a refund. If fact, Lillie's raising the question that perhaps we had "a strategy to get a refund" is simply over the top and totally without foundation. Believe me, if we wanted a refund she would have heard about it BEFORE we left that weekend. She never addressed the non-profit question I raised and I think that everyone who stays there deserves an answer to that. Her gratuitous comment that my other reviews are filled with fault finding overlooks the fact that my 5 and 4 star ratings, which are filled with praise, outnumber my negative ratings. What difference does that make anyway? If something is below par, it SHOULD be brought up on Yelp - it's a review site for the good and the not so good. And I did point out their wonderful work as a dog rescue & that our dog had a good time. I visited Glen Highland Farm's Canine Country Camp experience two years in a row. I had an excellent time both years, and would be there this year again if it was being offered. If you always wanted to find somewhere to take your dog on vacation where everyone would have an awesome time-- dog included -- this is the place to go. There are dog-friendly vacation spots like Provincetown on Cape Cod, but your dog still has to be on-leash most of the time, and certainly can't explore at will. At GHF, your dog can be a dog, running and playing on the fenced-in property, splashing in the creek, practicing on the agility equipment or just lounging with you under a tree. What you do is up to you and your dog. When we stayed, we opted for the large tent. It is on a wooden platform and is spacious enough for two adults and two large dogs with crates. Water is brought to your tent, and the shower facilities are nearby (and very clean and comfortable). Depending on where your tent or cabin is located around the property, creeks or meadows or trails are just steps away. There is a communal kitchen area for food storage and BBQ for cooking. In addition, the work that Lillie and the team do with rescued border collies is just fantastic, and it felt great to support them by taking our vacation on the farm. I have to chime in here about the bathrooms. These were quite possibly the cleanest bathrooms from a campsite I have ever seen!!! Aside from that, my wife and I had an amazing time here, and they do absolutely wonderful work with their rescue. Thanks for an amazing experience.. I've visited Glen Highland Farm twice in the last two years and we've already planned our next visit. It truly is a dog's paradise and you will not find anyplace else quite like it. I think it's best to describe it this way first... it's not a vacation where you bring your dogs along, it's a vacation FOR your dogs. Knowing this, we weren't quite sure what to expect as far as accommodations and facilities were concerned. We were quite pleased with the accommodations (we stayed in an RV, primarily for the AC). Despite staying in an RV that has been occupied by dogs all season, it doesn't smell like it at all. They do a great job of keeping everything clean. The Pavilion area was a particular surprise for us. It's a large outdoor, covered area and it's well stocked with utensils, cups, plates, seasonings, pots and pans, 2 gas grills and a large wood burning grill, and wifi.There's also a large cabin next to it with refrigerators and microwave. The Pavilion is the social area of the farm. Beyond that, there's 175 acres of open fields, wooded trails, streams, rest areas, an agility field, a sports field, and a large pond with a dock. You can explore with your dog/s all day and rarely run into another person because the it's such a large area and there's never too many other people around (accommodations are limited and they like it that way). When you're away from the main area and exploring the farm it really feels like you have the whole place to yourself, and for NJ people like us, that's a really nice experience. The fields and trails are very well maintained and marked, so you cannot get lost. My dogs love it and by the end of the day they can't keep their eyes open. We also love it because it's so relaxing and peaceful, and we can leave the leashes in the car from the time we arrive until we leave. There really is no place quite like it, so if you have dogs and want a relaxing getaway, I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. read more

I discovered Glen Highland Farms either in 2006 or 2007, but due to an injury just returned after a 3 year absence. Upon arriving my dogs jumped out of my car in front of the RV we rented ready to take advantage of the miles of beautiful trails that run throughout the almost 200 acre property which includes a beautiful Butternut creek. It is joy to be able to have my dogs be off leash for the entirety of my stay at the farm. As I was unpacking, I could feel the real world melt away. Being on the farm is such a unique and almost spiritual experience. I open up my RV door and 4 or 5 dogs come up to say hi. I loving spending time with people who love their dogs and cherish spending time with them the way I do. Throughout the trails there are spots to stop with lounge chairs, umbrellas, fresh water and even grills in some locations. You can walk miles and never run into campers or you can go to common areas and watch your dog's play like nature intended.... Off leash, running, barking, jumping in cool streams, fetching Frisbees and the like. I was so impressed with all the improvements that have been done the 3 years since my last visit. The dining pavilion now has furniture you would see at any restaurant that has outdoor dining. There are gas grills and an open pit to cook on. The farm supplies campers with all glasses, plates, utensils, pots, pans and even oils and spices for all to enjoy. They have even added WIFI availability at the pavilion. I almost hesitate to call this camping with all the amenties. You have the options of a tent (on a wooden platform with futon), cozy cabins; you can bring your own RV and the option I like of renting an RV. I like having electricity in the RV as well as being able to use the bathroom at 2 am in the RV. However, there are bathrooms and showers available for all campers and the showers are hot with great water pressure, so I opt to use them during the day. The RV is comfortable and dog friendly; although so clean you wouldn't guess dogs have stayed there. When visiting, please make sure to get a tour of the rescue operation. It is the epitome of what rescue should be. To hear how each dog is evaluated and a care plan is devised to prepare them for their forever home is an inspiring experience. Recently they added a sanctuary where dogs that not adoptable, either because of their advanced age or other reasons, now will stay at the farm full-time. I stayed for 5 days this time and got to meet many campers, as campers often stay for 2-3 days. A few couples that were there for the first time were bummed they didn't book a longer stay. In fact after a 3 year absence, I have decided I can't wait till next year and have already signed up to go back the first weekend in October. It is incredibly unfair and biased of Yelp to only allow one poor review and disregard EVERY good review written. I have thoroughly enjoyed several vacations at Glen Highland Farm and cannot speak highly enough about the property, the accommodations, and the people who live and work there. Every year it gets better and better. The gorgeous views, the many trails, the creek, the pond, the meadows, the woods: They are all idyllic in their beauty and serenity, a wonder around every bend. For anyone who enjoys a rural vacation, they know what a rare gem it is, when they find accommodations that meet their every need and maintain a level of cleanliness seldom, if ever, seen in the country. The people at Glen Highland Farm are amazing. They truly care about their guests and do a fantastic job of ensuring everyone has a relaxing,memorable vacation. Glen Highland Farm Sweet Border Collie Rescue is a separate entity from the vacation camp, but you can ask for a tour and meet the dogs. This is an exceptional operation. The dogs are extremely well cared for. The caretakers are incredibly knowledgeable and are with the dogs continuously throughout the day. It is amazing to watch all the dogs as they play and socialize with each other, and since they are all Border Collies, they "get" each other and make up games together. Very fun! For their open hearts and willingness to help these Border Collies, I applaud the efforts of everyone at Glen Highland Farm. They are hard working, honest, exceptional people who are above reproach. I feel privileged to have met them and gotten to know them and will continue to vacation there as often as I can make the trip. read more

I must say I am very surprised by the previous comments about Glen Highland Farm. I've stayed there quite a few times over the past few years and even as recently as this past July. The staff is incredibly accommodating even going so far as to extend my stay for an extra two nights at a moments notice. The RVs, cabins and tents are placed in a natural environment....personally I've never ever had any issues with cleanliness although you would tend to expect that in the woods! I have booked again for September and cannot wait to experience the sheer joy of watching my dogs romp around the property....that is after all, for me the reason to stay there. read more

Our family ,pups included, have gone to GlenHighlands for the past six years on vacation. We have stayed in the RVs each year. We go with two other families who also stay in the RVs. We have always found them to be clean and well cared for in addition to being comfortable. The common areas of the camp grounds are also well tended and clean including the kitchen areas and the common restrooms. The hiking is wonderful with fresh water stocked at multiple sites along the trails. The streams and picnic areas are clean and and perfect spots for the humans and canines to cool off in the water and sunbathe . Staff are friendly and very helpful. We will vacation there for years to come! read more
