Updated review to previous one. They finally got back to me after too much effort & running around trying to find service. They did correct the issue. Refund my purchase price not delivery. But the book was delivered so it's cool. It was damaged & they refunded me for that so it was better than trying to find drop off & wasting more money to send back. Better solution & would have been best to offer before making matters worse. Little advice for businesses; just get back to the customer & try to do the right thing. People understand things happen that aren't expected but it's how you handle it that will make or break your business. People want to know their business is appropriate, that you actually value your customer. So I have gone ahead & updated this review because I like to be fair & they finally did come through with a better, acceptable solution. read more

I bought a Blu-ray DVD from SecondSale that was pictured perfectly with no stickers. They ended up sending one with several library stickers all over the insert and disks, so you can't even just replace the case. I reached out to them, and they were difficult to deal with and were proud of the library stickers. Maybe it was an AI response, but it was from a self-proclaimed Customer Support Hero named Peter O. I will avoid buying from these guys, and I would suggest you do too unless you want some old, well-used items. read more

SecondSale - Bookstores Near Me - Montgomery, Illinois

I wish I could give zero stars. I ordered six books from this company and while they all arrived in pretty much the condition I expected, the store made them worse. These were all paperbacks, and they bent one of the covers packing them into the envelope. Worse, they taped an ad into the inside cover of four of the books and when I removed the ad it tore the inside cover. Why would anyone tape something inside a book? Place it inside, that's fine, but tape it? How stupid do you have to be to do this? I will also notify Abebooks about this seller and recommend they remove them from their site. read more

Seller WORLD OF BOOKS [900 Knell Road, Montgomery, IL 60538] engages in CRIMINAL ACTIVITY by fraudulent misrepresenting the condition of items. Multiple times I received damaged items sold as NEW by this seller. If they were selling cars and you bought a new Dodge Viper from them, they would deliver a wrecked Dodge Charger. I am going to refer it to the prosecutor's office. Too bad I can't give negative stars. CUSTOMER SERVICE BASICALLY TOLD ME TO GO F MYSELF. read more

SecondSale - Advertised as the NEW, more expensive keepcase version. Damaged crapcase sent. - Bookstores Near Me - Montgomery, Illinois

I ordered 4 books from this bookseller and only received 3 books. When I enquired about the 4th book I was told it was unreadable, failed their quality check and was sent to recycling. Since I had paid for all 4 books already I asked them to please replace the book that I didn't receive as they had 16 other copies available. I was told No and that I would have to reorder this book and they would send it ASAP. I then told them no as I had already paid for this book and they had 16 other copies and if they looked at my tracking it said the book was shipped with the other 3 books....After that email they ignored me. I have been asking for a refund since they wanted to be jerks about it but still no refund and no book.... They should rename themselves World of Crooks....Needless to say I have canceled my account with Abebooks. read more

Disappointed. I got a small paperback listed as "Very Good". The book had underlining and writing on almost EVERY page, not even with pencil but with pen. On top of this, a person's name was written on the edges of the book's pages with a black sharpie. It's very disingenuous to mark this as "Very Good"; per their own website's descriptions of conditions, this should have been marked as "Well-Read", or maybe even "Good", but DEFINITELY not "Very Good". I just wasted my money!! Because the cost to ship this back to them is more than what I paid. I didn't even mention the outside condition of the book, which was HEAVILY creased front, back, and spine. But I could have overlooked that if the inside wasn't so rough. I'm still waiting on the 2nd book in my order, which I also bought as "Very Good". Let's pray that the condition isn't as bad as this one. read more

I ordered a $15 paperback in "excellent" (very good) condition. What came was barely "acceptable"! The pages were graying, the cover was worn and wrinkled, the spine was worn and CRACKED as soon as I opened the garbage. $15? I wouldn't pay $0.25 for this! read more

I ordered a paperback book from Second Sale, through ABE, that they described as being in good condition, but when I received it it looked like it had been removed from a dumpster. The cover was completely curled back over the spine and the pages we badly dog-eared. I emailed them and offered to send a photo, but they never bothered to reply. read more

I ordered a book by Rudolf Steiner on mystical Christianity. They sent me Girl's Guide to Hunting & Fishing. I asked for a refund. They won't process the refund until I return the book they sent. Fair enough. But! They won't send me a return mailer. They want me to pay $10 to buy an envelope to ship back a $5 book. I've gone round and round with them every day for a week. Customer service is rude and non-responsive to my questions. Looks like I'm going to have to eat the loss for their mistake. Never ordering from them again. read more

AVOID!! I suspect this seller (aka glenthebookseller as in review below - EXACTLY SAME ADDRESS) is a "bookjacker." Their Abebooks profile says "we are a small company that works hard to get you used prices for brand new books, most of our items are directly from the publisher . . . With more than 80,000 books listed for sale." While their Product Type listing shows Books: (2,797,219) NEARLY 3 MILLION - right!! See ALL reviews below for description of what was received. "what is a bookjacker? From what we've been able to piece together, there are about 40 "sellers" on Abe & Amazon . . . that DO NOT OWN ANY OF THEIR STOCK, but simply hijack other legitimate booksellers' listings from other websites and then post the listings with inflated prices." From GoodReads: Sword & Sorcery: "An earthier sort of fantasy" discussion General Discussions: Beware the "Bookjackers" (this thread includes a list of bookjackers and a chronicle of price-switching between sellers on a single book, including: * Second Sale $123.94 then changed to $104.70 days later & is now $100.36 *Glen The Bookseller(amazon) $119.93 now changed to $96.77 My experience, after sending messages 3x asking for specific details on a novel listed by Glenthebookseller (SecondSale), waiting three days, giving up, I finally got a reply saying they had too many books and are too busy to provide such answers (cf "we are a small company" etc.) I'd already mentioned in my final message that the reviews here on Yelp had answered my question and I wasn't buying. They weren't a bit flapped, didn't even acknowledge. Sample searches on several (very) obscure authors turn up way too many listings to be real. (real = actual, in hand, currently owned stock) Why do I bother? I'm very grateful for the ALERT reviews here. And I'm a book lover, abundant book owner, and avid book buyer. Finally, as the GoodReads thread remarks; "Bookjacking is a real thing, a real sh;tty thing" per Google AI: Bookjackers: These sellers often list books with vague descriptions and may try to sell damaged or lower quality books at inflated prices. Price discrepancies: If a seller is offering a book significantly cheaper than other sellers, it could be a sign of a potential issue with the book's condition or legitimacy. Lack of details: Be wary of listings with very generic descriptions that don't provide specific information about the book's condition read more

Wow, I have to agree with all these other poor reviews of Secondsale. I was scammed by this company with a bait and switch. I ordered a book that was good/ to very good and was sent a book that had water damage, that was underlined, and a hard cover book where the back of the hardcover was actually ripped off and hanging. This is pretty disappointing for a small company, you would think they would have more integrity. Please don't be taken by this company. Good luck. Elizabeth read more

I have nothing but good things to say about "SecondSale". Their books are priced nicely, and arrive very fast. I will not hesitate to order from them. It must be the competition giving them bad reviews. Linda S. read more

It is my first experience with this company and I ordered a book because it has a good price compared to other sites. However, a week after I received email confirmation of my order, the seller cancelled my order with a refund, and re-listed the book with more than twice higher of the price. I won't use this site again, totally a waste of my time and opportunities with other sellers. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before ordering a book from these folks. Bad experience, poor description. Didn't get what I thought I had ordered. What I did get was damaged. They did issue a refund. Most of it went to pay for return shipping. Not a good look for AbeBook's with whom I have typically had good experience. read more

DO NOT BUY BOOKS FROM THEM. I ordered a book through Abebooks. I did not receive the book I ordered. I received a different book. I requested a refund. I would have to send back the wrong book to get the refund (which is fine), but they did not give me return shipping to send them back the wrong book. If I didn't get paid for return shipping, because I paid a bit over $5 for the book, I would only get back about $1 with the refund because of the return shipping I would have to pay for. They also offered a 20% credit for my next purchase if I didn't send back the wrong book, which would also be about $1. Either way, I only get $1 back for their mistake. I know I'm writing this complaint over $1/$5, but it is the principle of the matter. They did not send me the book I paid for and when I ask for refund or paid for return shipping, this is what they offer. In an email, they eventually said they would refund me on 12Dec2024. It is now 27Dec2024 and still no refund. read more

I accidently purchased the wrong book. I requested it to be cancelled on the same day I placed the order. Actually, within the same hour. I requested on the order page AND sent a separate email to support through the customer portal. The only response I received was the next day and it simply said, "Order has been processed". I immediately replied to that email requesting clarification and if a refund has been processed. I never got a reply back but I did receive a "Customer Satisfaction" email that day as if the ticket had been closed. The following day I replied to the email again requesting confirmation that the order has been cancelled and a refund issued. No reply. A couple days later, I put in another message through the customer portal about this issue. No reply. And then two days after that, I received an email saying the order has been shipped. A couple days after that, I receive another Customer Satisfaction email. And now, days later, here I am with still no reply, no refund, and supposedly a book I don't want on the way :( read more

BEWARE!!!!! Last week I ordered college a textbook with a delivery date scheduled for today - the first day of class. Not ideal and cutting it close, but it was fine. Except it's not fine!! I just got a refund notice - because they don't actually have the book. Now I'm SCRAMBLING to find a book today and will have to pay expedited shipping so I get it this week AND I'll miss a couple of days of having a book. I could have ordered it somewhere else, but instead they waited until the day of delivery and now I have no book for class and have to pay double the price to get one. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I bought a book for school from them and it was missing most of two chapters. Sadly, I did not look through the book before the 30 days of the refund period and they would not bend and replace the book. The chapters were not ripped out - it was clearly a printer error but they refused to either offer a refund or provide a new book. I would have gladly sent them to faulty book so they could take up the issue with the printer but their answer was a solid no. Very disappointed with the customer service. I changed my review because SecondSale did address my issue and took care of the problem. I'm giving them a good because they came through in the end but it shouldn't have been such an effort. read more

It has been over a month since I ordered my yoga books for teachers training. When I finally got them, they sent me 2 used and I paid for new, I bought 5 books and it says buy 3 you get one free-they charged me for all 5 books-no free one. 2 were new, and the last book never came. I drove out to Montgomery-over an hour to get compensated and get the book they never sent. They make you stand outside rather than in the waiting area and then I talked to a regional on the phone-their number is not listed and comes up unknown- who told me I would be paid back what was owed and I was out of luck with the book I never got. it has been a week, no compensation, no phone call, and now I am beyond mad! This is such an unprofessional company that lies to good people that trusted in their services. I will continue to drive there so I can get what is owed. Please do not order books from this company! They don't care that they screw up your order, what they send you, if they send you your books at all, take your money and do not pay you back for what is owed, lie and tell you that your messages and emails went to the UK, and why no one has responded.
