I went once with a friend. Disclaimer: I am a hardcore REAL thriftstore girl - like, I will dig through racks of pilled stirrup pants and Christmas sweaters for that cute dress for $5. So when I think "secondhand" or "consignment," I think inexpensive and diverse. But this is definitely way more expensive than I expected. I'm petite, and I like young, girly, fresh styles, and didn't find that much. There were a lot of very expensive brand names, but the actual dresses and tops weren't really that cute (or my size). The shoes were also way too expensive for their condition (some were pretty worn). The staff also didn't seem that friendly, but I was there with a friend (who actually tried some stuff on, but didn't buy anything), so we didn't pay too much attention. To me, it seemed kind of pretentious, expensive and for an older audience, but maybe if you're really into brands or used to paying a lot more for clothes, it would be a great deal. I will probably stop by again at some point to see if my opinion changes. We'll see. read more

As a shopper, I love this place. Previous reviewers have already described their pricing system; the item gets progressively cheaper, the longer it's there. That being said, there is always that pained moment when you consider buying something then, or waiting until it's cheaper and hoping it's still there. The place itself is clean, well-lit, and well-organized. This place also seems to overall get good designers and the clothes are typically in great condition. All pluses in my opinion. Sometimes the pricing can be a bit arbitrary, but if you find something truly great it will usually be well-priced. Not a bargain, but fair. read more

It's as good as consignment shops gets. This store has everything from J.crew to Louboutins. You will find items that are as recent as the current season. You'll also find a good handful of older styles for designer items, but when designer and in good condition, those are good staples in your closet. I've been pleased with the pricing scheme, which decreases every couple weeks. It's fair and promotes a good circulation of products. I've never gone twice and seen the same batch of clothes. They have a good selection of designer handbags - most of which are very gently used. In comparison to their original price as well as taking into account style depreciation and general wear and tear, i would say that the price is fair for what you get. I wanted to purchase a dress that had a damaged seam. I got a discount though it was brought in the other day. Be on the lookout for their email flash sales as well as their online store. read more

The DC consignment scene is tough because everyone seems to know the value of what they have. Secondi is no exception - they know the going rate for a gently worn Diane von Furstenberg dress, pencil skirt from J Crew, or top from Anthropologie. So the good news: if you can't afford it retail, you might be able to afford it here. The bad news: you still might not walk away feeling like you scored a great deal. The folks who work here are, for the most part, nice and attentive. The merchandise is pretty high quality, and in some cases very high end. Dresses are a strength, with good selection and lots of name brand designers. Jewelry is a weakness - most seems pretty cheap compared to the quality of the clothing. TIP: I tried on a dress and loved it, and they were able to bring me a couple other items brought in by the same consignor. I just love this place. Great prices on the highest quality designer goods. I live a few blocks away and visit regularly to either consign clothes or check out the selection. The staff is super friendly give the store a laid back, family feel. I don't feel like I'm in an average consignment shop, since the entire store is decorated in cozy, boutique-like fashion and very well organized. I've walked away with gorgeous dresses and shoes in perfect condition for half the retail price. You can almost always find Theory, True Religion, Rebecca Taylor, LeRok, DVF, BCBG and even your basic Banana Republic and J Crew apparel. The jewelry selection is a bit over-priced. Great purse selection. I've seen plenty of Kooba, Gustto, Burberry, and Gucci purses. Lots of designer sunglasses, too. They are very picky about what clothes they consign. Also, you may have to wait a while to get a first-time appointment to consign clothing, but once you go through the initial process, dropping off clothes is a breeze. read more

Popped in here needing a dress to wear to a wedding..the following day. One of the saleswomen briefed me on the store when i walked in, asked me a few questions about what I was looking for, and led me to the best area to search, even helping me pick out dresses. She was fabulous. When I went in to try on the dresses, she found a few more for me. One of the dresses she picked ended up being the one I went with. They seem to have a great selection of items and the prices weren't bad. They also have a wide range of designers. I got my dress for probably $100 cheaper than trying to buy the same dress online. Secondi re-enforced my faith in consignment shops, which to me is basically shopping in someone else's carefully crafted closet. Another woman with good taste has already painstakingly chosen her wardrobe and now she is passing on her knowledge and good fashion sense to you for a fraction of the price she paid. Ain't nuthing to love about that. Secondi is tres picky about the clothes they accept. There's an extensive list of the designers they accept and all pieces must be from the past two years. Definitely not the place to unload you grea-aunt Muriel's outdated wardrobe. If the item has been on the shelf for one month or more, the price goes down 20%. If it's been there for 2 months or more, the price drops 40%. And as with all consignment shops, the devil is in just plain luck. I found a perfect pair of Theory pants for $24 that turned out to be not so perfect b/c they were just that smidgen too tight. Poop on a stick =( But I did snag a pair of well-fitting Lucky jeans for $30, a pair of black Bandalinos with kitten heels for $15, and a black Banana pencil skirt for $15. I actually sell my clothes here more than I buy stuff here. You can call up and make an appointment to sell and they rifle through your stuff and take a few things here and there. You don't get much back for each thing, but it adds up if you have a bunch of stuff. They also have some cute stuff but you have to spend a little time looking through everything to find something you like. The clothes are all in mint condition (a lot of them are new things that people never wore and then sold.) I think it is a good place to get dresses - since they are easy to look through, and also suits. They have a lot of designer stuff for a big mark-down. It isn't that cheap though.... read more

Can you give 3.5 stars? I've sold things here on multiple occasions, and I'll continue to do so in the future because I'm not aware of a better consignment store in the area. I've found that it's better to make an appointment then just drop off your things (particularly if you have more expensive things) because their reasons for accepting/rejecting items might not be intuitive. Unfortunately there is generally a pretty long wait to schedule an appointment. The people that work there (I've only ever seen women) are by and large completely insufferable. They can be haughty, rude, and distracted. If I have some things to sell I generally hold my breath and try to get in and out of there as quick as possible. If you can overlook the employees, and ignore their horrific voice mail recording (they only have one phone line so you might get this a lot), it's not a bad place to consign! read more

I like Secondi. It's too expensive for me to love it, but I keep going back because it has what I like. Secondi has some great clothes and contrary to what some other people said, I found the service very cordial. One of the salespeople noticed I was lugging a big bag and coat and offered to put it up for me while I shopped. I tried on a number of items and found a great dress to wear for a romantic date, which only cost me around $60 and still had the original price tag that said it was over $200 retail. The pricing scheme of prices being lower the longer it is on the rack seemed fair to me, and I saw a lot of great bargains. The only drawback, which I've seen in other consignment shops, is that the selection of sizes for girls above a size 8-10 can be smaller and sometimes the items aren't as cute or attractive. I definitely had to dig and go in the dressing room multiple times before I found something I wanted to buy, but it was worth it for the dress that I eventually found :) read more

This store is amazing! I was expecting it to have a bit of a pretentious vibe since they have luxury labels like Chanel. However, I received the opposite treatment. The staff was helpful but not over the top. They give you space, but if they see you picking up items they'll ask to hold them for you while you shop. It is well organized and clean. All items are in great shape. From dresses to suits, casual wear to athletic wear, designer shoes to off brand, they have it all. I'm so glad I checked it out. I walked out with a pair of Chanel heels, St John skirt suit and an Alice & Olivia top for $230! It Is amazing. There's also a great Mexican place down the street called Mission. After a great shopping trip it's the perfect place to hang on the patio, crush some tacos and enjoy a margarita. Perfect afternoon! read more

Located on the second floor next to starbucks, this cute consignment shop offers brands from Banana Republic to Prada. All the items in the store are neatly organized by size and type of clothing. The prices aren't super cheap, but it does offer a discount from what you would pay at retail price. I picked up a pair like new cole haan pumps for $50 [too bad they weren't on the shelf longer cause my price tag said after mid-march, the shoe would have sold for only $27, but i figured it would have been sold out by the time I waited that long]. I thought the service was fantastic as at least three of the friendly sales associate offered to help! Three of them! :) Nice to know that they care about their customers. They also have a few dressing rooms scattered throughout the stores. I also liked how their was so much sunlight in the store from their floor the large windows. There are also few couches and magazines in the store, and I was tempted to plop down to relax in one! Perhaps a boyfriend could have benefited from the couches. This was a great (read: "dangerous!") find. I was always put off from the view in from the window since it looked like heavier-style clothing for a slightly older crowd. However, at the urging of a fashion-focused friend, decided to give it a shot. Definitely was not disappointed. In fact, had to pry myself away! Some of the shoes there while great brands and such, looked like they had been well worn by their prior owners and still carried a hefty price tag. I guess it takes some serious wear and tear to bring down the dollar value on some brand names. They did have a good amount of great buys on brands like Laundry, BCBG, Theory, etc. Their selection on the smaller sizes wasn't as robust as I would have liked, but that seems to usually be the case. The prices aren't that cheap here, but my friend and I both scored fabulous purses here last weekend. She was looking for a small black thing to take to a wedding and found a satin one for $28. I ended up finding a Kenneth Cole tote that I liked (and everybody else likes too). Both were in great condition and I had to stop myself from browsing through the dresses. The pricing system allows for prices to go down on items that don't sell quickly. read more

As far as second-hand stores go, this is a gem. The ladies are knowledgeable, the clothes are well-organized, and the whole place is just charming. Secondi is a solid consignment shop, especially considering that good ones are few and far between in the DC area. I have scored a cashmere scarf for $12 and a brand new Ralph Lauren cardigan sweater in royal purple for $20-something (still had tags attached!!). I've seen everything from Kate Spade to vintage Gucci purses. They have a good selection, and the prices go down over a certain period (they have markdown dates w/prices listed on the items' tags). It can be hit-or-miss (sometimes I score nada). But it's worth a stop in if you're near or in the area. read more

Secondi is what it is a consignment shop. Every friend I've brought there has managed to find great deals and great items. Me not so much. - Its a great place to browse on the weekends. Depending on when they get new items that can be the time you will have the greatest finds. You are pretty much on your own in the shop. What you see is what you get. Look over all your items carefully and make sure you are happy with your purchase. I've never taken clothes to sell but a friend of mine did and she had no problems. read more

Recession Deals!!! Just because it's a recession doesn't mean we can't afford to look good. At Secondi, I found a pair of paper denim cloth jeans for $23.00 and a $9.00 for a pair of banana republic slacks. They had some good buys, jimmy choo boots for $175, and a Marc Jacob bag for $100. The styling is for professional dc urbanites, that like common labels like BCBG, Rock n Republic, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic. But if you need to stock up on work basics and the occasional fun piece, Secondi is for you. read more

What really bothers me about Secondi is the attitude of the owner and staff - which is not at all service-oriented. It felt more like a high school clique than a business. It took months to get an appointment, and when you consign you have to call and ask them to send you a check, otherwise they won't. Their contract has many special clauses, all very slanted toward the shop. I will not go there again - bad service, snobby staff, not a good experience. Based on the reviews of this place, I decided to check it out. It's above the Starbucks close to the metro, and nicely laid out. The staff were very friendly and nice, and wandered around looking for customers to help and inform about their current sales. They were patient and accommodating, and the selection was large and varied. Prices ranged from very reasonable to expensive, depending on what you're looking for. They have many suits and dresses, not as many casual tops, and I found a great pair of boots. I also got a discount for mentioning Yelp, and walked away with a big bag of cute finds. I want to write good reviews about Secondi as a consignor. I consigned with them about three weeks ago, and one of my items got sold. Due to this coronavirus outbreak my school got cancelled. I am international, and at this time there is no point for me to remain in the states so my parents and I decided that I'd better fly back to my home country. There are still several items left on the floor being unsold. I asked them if they could make an exception to let me retrieve my items since to mail an international check is somehow unsafe and not guaranteed. We spoked on phone and they really understood my situation and have the best solution for me. I don't see how there are some negative reviews about this store. As a consignor, it is normal if your items do not get sold immediately, but among different consignment stores, the people here are incredibly nice and understanding. There is also a variety of selection of fantastic things for reasonable price to shop. I would give this place 5 stars. Definitely recommend! read more

Pretty nice store. The people working there are really friendly, and not the usual crowd that seems to permeate these "cool" designer consignment shops. That being said, the prices were a little steep for second hand clothes. To give you an idea my sister bought a pair of jeans from a thrift store back home in California for $20 (in great condition) and I saw the exact same pair at Secondi for $85...Like I said, I feel like that is a little much for second hand jeans even if they are designer. Overall I would have liked it if they had more variation in their clothes. Mixing in some middle of the road designers might have done them some good. read more

This is, by far, my favorite consignment store in DC. They have a ton of great brands in all different sizes. I feel like they have a little something for everyone. I cannot believe I have been working a block away for over half a year and I haven't been to Secondi until now. I was kind of put off by the label-mindedness of the website (and really, if you are going to go out of your way to be snobby, should you really mention the Gap as a label?) and was sad that it doesn't carry real vintage, but it is such a well-kept store and they have a lot of stuff! The staff was pretty nice while I was there. I bought some killer shoes that retail for $225 that seemed like they had never been worn and discovered a crazy skirt that I thought about buying to wear for my wedding. read more

Regular prices here are a little high for used clothes and always make me think twice, but they have a good system for making things down based on date of consignment, and a couple of excellent end of season sales. I worked down the street from this place for 3 years.I noticed a difference in customer service based on how I was dressed, so I conducted a social experiment to prove to myself this was the case. When I'd go in there dressed for a business meeting, I'd get a friendly "welcome up" from someone at the counter, no wait for the dressing rooms and friendly conversation at check out. If I came in dressed down, in jeans and a t-shirt, I'd get no welcome, no service and wait at the counter fro 10 minutes before I was acknowledged to get into a dressing room. There are certain staff that are friendlier than others, but the customer service is less than shoddy on the whole. read more

I was impressed by the selection available in all sizes from xs-xl. I found an awesome d. von furstenberg skirt for 85.00 originally 225.00 and an awesome end of summer dress!! It was a bit crowded in the store so I had to wait around awkwardly, although with my final finds it was well worth the wait. A few of the items are a bit high priced for consignment... such as an amazing stella mccartney blazer that I fell in love with until I looked at the price tag for 735.00. I know some of the higher end designers found at the shop are pricey in the first place, but consignment should provide a bit more of a discount. Everyone at the store was extremely helpful and very personable. I will be returning to dig through the racks for wonderful fall finds!! read more

I visited the store during a short stay in DC earlier this month. It is quite a lovely store; a gem! They carry a great selection of clothes and accessories with a decent amount of luxury brands sprinkled about in very good condition at reasonable prices. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. It is really a fun store. During my brief visits, (I went twice I had to return to collect a fabulously massive embroidered white scarf before leaving the city), I did not have the pleasure of meeting Ms Winnie, perhaps next year. I LOVE this place! I don't consign there...I just buy. And let me tell you, it is becoming a habit! I can walk in, (it is right above the Starbucks) and find good deals every time I go! Their range of name brands is impressive. The racks of clothes are always changing. They run discounts depending on how long the item has been there, so you can get some really nice rates. I tried on some Louboutin shoes ($150) and then some Jimmy Choos ($169). They also have styles of Chanel and Prada. I still am not going to pay that much for a pair of shoes I might wear 3 or 4 times, but THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL!!! I would never try these shoes in a regular store at full price. So I felt like a kid playing dress up for a minute! They also have the full gamut of brands, down to old navy and gap, so there is something for everybody. Go look! I've had consistently positive purchasing and consignment experiences here! Staff is always polite and appropriately helpful, you can find some good clothing and accessory finds, and the consignment process is straight forward. Of course they won't take everything you bring and sometimes you have to discuss prices but it's generally and easy process. I recommend for shopping and consigning! read more

I have been shopping here since college in the early 90s, when it was located on the other side of Connecticut. I always find unique items. The prices can be a bit pricey, but you can always walk away with an extremely nice piece. Definitely one of the best consignment stores in DMV. read more

I'd give a negative star review if I could. I consigned about 30 pieces with this store. Richard Tyler, Gucci, Prada, Armani, etc. Original purchase prices at $10k+. Over the first six months, they sold only two pieces, reasonably good prices. I checked on the inventory of my consignment and was told the remainder had been stored for the next season because they were high end and would sell, but they wanted to hold them for a more appropriate season. Six months later, they told me they hadn't sold them, hadn't donated them and did not have them in inventory. Just disappeared. I can only assume they disappeared into an employee's closet. Shameful. UPDATED: Very shortly after posting the initial review I was contacted by the owner. To her credit, she immediately acknowledged that there had been an error in inventory and offered financial compensation. She also expressed sincere and, I believe, true regret that such an error could occur. She immediately followed through on that offer with immediate transmittal of compensation for the missing items. Although no one is happy that the issue occurred, I commend the management for prompt action. read more

consider this an open letter to the owner of secondi: your staff needs a refresher course on customer service. is secondi a great consignment shop? i didn't even really check out the selection after a pretty disappointing interaction with the sales staff. firstly, all the sales girls look super young and totally not aware of brands. these are not women who would know whether my YSL, Casadei, and Kors shoes were from the last two seasons (the website cautions that secondi only takes clothes/shoes from the last two seasons). secondly, the girls were too busy gossiping with each other to give anyone any sort of service. thirdly, when i finally got someone's attention and said, "i'd like to drop off some shoes. may i ask a question?," she replied, "no, i can only answer questions by appointment. the next appointment is june 18th." today was may 22nd, and i only wanted to ask whether the shoes needed to be in separate bags. this exchange was representative of two visits. btw, you'll see from my reviews that i rarely complain about service. but, if i were a shop owner and i employed a bunch of kids to run the saturday shift, i would want to know if they were goofing off. so, ms. secondi? time for a staff meeting. read more

You have to look for it, figure out where the door is, and climb a steep set of stairs -- it's on the second floor, and it's a second-hand shop, hence the name "Secondi" -- but it's worth it for this nicely curated collection of higher-end gently used clothing. The women who review the items brought in have a good eye, choosing to accept and sell what's recent, and turning away what's been sitting in the far recesses of someone's closet for too many years. They keep their selection to things that are in excellent shape, excellent quality, and top-of-the-line. Don't be confused at all: this isn't at all your typical "thrift store" with ratty jeans for three dollars. You're still paying for quality, just much less than new. Everything's well displayed, with racks for different types of mid-to-high level designer clothing on one side of the store (long-sleeve blouses, sleeveless, skirts, pants, dresses, shoes, jackets, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, etc.), hung by size, and within each size, items of similar colors are together. And on the other side, the real gems: the seriously higher-end items you want for important events -- like a silk Chanel evening dress, an Armani skirt suit, or a pair of Louboutin's. I hadn't purchased any clothes in quite awhile (budget), but really wanted something nice for an event that evening; popped in on my lunch hour, and found the perfect silk blouse and pencil skirt. I've been to Secondi both as a buyer and a seller and have had super negative customer service experiences. When walking in, I have never been greeted and the sales staff seems a bit less than interested in helping me. I consigned an item once and it was extremely difficult to get a staff member to respond to me about my item. When I finally received an answer about whether it sound, I was told my item was donated (in less the time by the way I was told it would be on the floor) but also in a manner that made me believe they may have had no idea who they were speaking to. So frustrating! I've heard of others having more positive experiences at least on the buying side so perhaps they reserve a more positive attitude for certain customers. read more

I consigned beautiful, expensive pieces of clothing with them, and they donated it all! They, allegedly, didn't sell it. When I asked about my items, they told me they were still in the store, but when I came to the store, they were no where to be found. Visiting this store is like a treasure hunt. There is such a greay variety of very high end (Hermes! Chanel!) and also nice everyday/office appropriate clothing. Most of the clothes look practically brand new - you can tell they have high standards for taking items on consignment. Merchandise goes through quickly so you never know what you'll find. They also often have beautiful purses that are barely even used. Higher end items still seem expensive, but not when compared to the items when at full price. The staff are always really friendly and helpful, too. They were awesome and answered a lot of my questions about a jacket and they were so patient.
