Dual location review: Fairmount and Queen Village…read more Philly Art Center has been part of my daughter's life since 4 years old (almost 10 now). I called the Art Center in Fairmount (it was only one location at that point) and spoke to Ms. Jill, explained that my daughter was a new 4 and I was concerned about leaving her. She nicely told me get over it and I would be fine (of course she didn't say that), she reassured me that she would be safe and have fun..after the first class, my daughter was hooked; it doesn't hurt that they get to color on the mirrors in the studio. Throughout the years my daughter has taken numerous classes at the Fairmount and Queen Village Centers, in addition to "Date Night", which you drop your child off for a couple hours and pick them up, I believe around 10pm; they feed them, they go to the gym, and of course do art. Not only are they doing art, the children learn about artists and how and why things are done. I believe the regular classes were about 90 minutes for children. There are general art classes but most of them have a theme or time period that they focus on; one of her favorite classes was pottery. Numerous adult classes and birthday parties are also offered. Recently my daughter started back at the Art Center for drop-in camp. Seeing Ms. Jill for the first time in years was the highlight of our day. While she is the owner, she is fully invested in the children and it shows by how much my daughter loves her! For camp, the campers get creative so it is recommended your child comes in play clothes and sneakers because the do go to the park; before-care and after-care is available. Over the years, due to scheduling conflicts we were unable to attend regularly, but anytime I hear someone talk about their children loving art, I always recommended the Art Center! Ms. Jill and her staff are amazing, now with an addition location in Cherry Hill, NJ! You go girl!!!

Great teaching, wide range of courses, convenient location, plus several opportunities to show my work during the year. This is also a great place for kids-- art classes after school and on the weekends, and their summer art camp is excellent. Cheltenham and surrounding areas are lucky to have this gem in the neighborhood.

I've been to this pantry about 6x's now.Here's my take on its pros & cons…read more Pros - 1) On 1/9/23 I asked one of the ladies who always seems to oversee the frozen meat area if the workers are all volunteers. Yes, she said. I think that's great. 2) A lot of the food seems to come from Whole Foods. (Not sure if that's a good thing or not, as they're owned by pretty greedy Amazon now.) 3) A lot of the prepackaged stuff is organic. 4) I think It's nice everyone can choose theitems he/she wants. Someone usually cites that said the number of things in each distribution group we can have. I sustained one exception to that the last time I was there3/13/23. one of the regular volunteers informed me I could have as many pantry items I wanted. Don't quote me but I think she said that was because I was there within earshot of the closing of the hour long giveaway time frame so sufficient edibles were there still. (I don't know, that said where they store "leftover stuff that needs refrigeration or freezer space. There's a small free parking lot on Carson street that's across the street from the pantry entrance which isn't on GREEN LANE, ACTUALLY. (If you've a car this is an important point to be aware of -- the workers here correctly inform me about given how difficult it can be to find parking on a lot of the street in this neighborhood. I think it's far better that groceries and a place like Whole Foods are giving away food they don't want to sell anymore -- due to their (likelihood) notions their customers don't want anything that's almost "expired," (I could go on and on about that $) than trashing these foodstuffs in landfills that are already clearly overburdened, giving rise to global warming hence, etc. Finally given the food here is free when all is said and done it's definitely a good place to frequent if you're interested in just saving your coinson the recent hiked cost of grocery food. Cons - Regarding my query about where refrigerated food is stored here I had a fairly nasty taste of that (no pun intended lol). The last time I was at the pantry I picked up a fairly large plastic container of carrots and celery (see picture) which had an expiration date of 3/12/23 but which I wanted anyway because I've found "expired " things often last a lot longer than what's noted on various food items. Well for the first time in my life these particular veggies were pretty much rotten-- about two weeks after I brought them home. That's VERY unusual for carrots and celery as these pretty hardy vegetables usually last a lot longer than two weeks in my fridge. I'm 100% certain due to the fact they Had NOT BEEN PROPERLY REFRIGERATED -- if in fact they'd been refrigerated at all after Whole Foods donated it to them however their usual (innate capacity shall I say) to withstand pretty accelerated decay was obliterated. That's disappointing that something like that can happen at a food pantry of all places! I'm not trying to belabor the vegetable matter here but since I've already broached ithere's another thing I don't think is great about this pantry For some reason one can't get fresh vegetables here much. I think that's strange and unfortunate. I've usually had to wait 40-45 minutes before being called up to get my items. The wait time here can be tiring, therefore. After all is said and done of course -- to end on a positive note the fact that much of the food here is organic and pretty decent, healthy, etc I've no reason NOT to recommend it.

Its street parking which with all the snow isn't as easy to find as it normally would be but I managed to get a decent spot both trips. Its a little cold when your not moving but once you get started the temperature ends up being just fine. If you live in the area its a little small but not a bad place to participate in an indoor sports league.

Very clean restroom available the entire time. The teachers for our class were Vendela Bonner she a power source of information and the OG Jack Simpson! He is a well of knowledge! I went into this class very nervous and discouraged, and left feeling encouraged and empowered to take on the test! The class never felt rushed! But this basement gallery can be the perfect destination for an eclectic First Friday gathering. From the looks of the format Sub2 has 3 main walls that cater to three different arts: one digital, one illustration/arts, and one for photography. The photography selection and digital components of the gallery have been up for the past 3-5 months which is a little to long for an ever changing artscape like the galleries of Old City. but since it showcases chill astronauts and interesting photographic shots of Philly (I love the ones of Rittenhouse Square in a snowy winter!), I can't say that I'm complaining too much.The newest addition has been the cool black & white illustrations of Jen Lightfoot which were brilliant to look at. So wow it might have not shown enough art over the past couple of months as other spots, it at least makes up for it in quality over quantity. And on the gallery scale most of the pieces that it shows are actually somewhat affordable.
