Jessica created a delightful floral mosaic design. She kept me informed of cost and schedule. The result is drop-dead gorgeous! Friends and neighbors are so complimentary. Even the mailman is a big fan! There are so many lovely mosaics and murals in the city of Philly, so it felt especially fun to bring some of that whimsey into the suburbs. She allowed my grandson and other family members to place a tile on the wall, making it even more special. My grandson loves to point out "his leaf" to everyone. Jessica is a talented and committed artist with years of experience. She is friendly, down-to-earth, and easy to work with. Her creations are unique. She uses a mixture of handmade clay tiles with special designs and glazes along with commercially-made tile. The result is breath-taking. She is a delight to work with. I can highly recommend her.

We were entertained with giants, a rhino, and a dragon, and witness love grow between a tailor and princess. Too cute. They take donations as payments and it's kid friendly. Lucky for me, my boyfriend kindly surprised me with tickets to a Sunday night Paint Nite at St. Declan's Well where we were to paint a sunset scene with two dolphins and a palm tree. The night started at 7 PM, and they suggested you arrive 15 minutes early to set up. We were promptly greeted by Jess, our instructor for the night. The Paint Nite crew had taken over the back half of the bar with a blank canvas set up on a green table cloth for everyone. We selected two seats in the back, facing the opposite direction of the instructor- this wasn't a beg deal as we just turned our seats during instruction. Additionally Jess used a microphone and speaker so everyone could hear- this worked well, but I think it's time for Paint Nite to upgrade to a bit nicer of equipment. If you are coming with a bigger group- get there early so you can get seats together. I wish that Paint Nite would have done assigned seating. Some tables were overly crowded while others had room to share. After getting our cups of water and pumps of paint, we put on our aprons and started the class. At first we were a little nervous, but Jess led us through the entire thing and made it easy for anyone to participate. Jess took pictures throughout the night and later posted them on the company's facebook page which was nice. The bar was cool, but the service was horrible. The bar staff was rude and took way to long to fill orders. I don't think I would come back to this location for a Paint Nite. Overall this is a super unique activity and overall a great time sure to be filled with smiles, painted hands, and laughter. I can't wait to pick another painting and come again.

When I originally bought the deal from Living Social, it was quickly cancelled, which was a disappointment. However, a few days later I noticed the deal on Groupon, so I bought it again - clearly there are some technical/promotional issues, but thankfully, this time it was on! We did a Sunday paint nite at Head House Crab & Oyster Co, on 2nd and South. The space was huge and the restaurant and bar were pretty dead on Sunday at 7pm, so I can understand why they'd welcome a crowd of 30 painters - especially when those painters are being encouraged to drink throughout the entire class. I understand the reciprocal relationship of Paint Nite using the space and encouraging people to buy drinks from the bar, but the pushiness was obvious and got a bit annoying after 2 hours. As for the class itself, we painted "Fireflies" - an abstract sort of image that is evidently their most popular piece. Although the instructions were vague at time, it was an "Easy" level painting, and so they came out fairly well. Perhaps the most interesting and fun part was to walk around and see how 30 different people could interpret the same scene so many different ways - although I have to admit, it inspired some artist envy! Overall, the novelty of painting your own masterpiece, while being able to sip drinks, makes for a fun night out, especially if you gather up a group to go. At $50 a person, I wouldn't pay full price, but there seems to be no shortage of half-price deals floating around on the inter webs. Not sure if I'll be a repeat customer, because really, what do you do with a bunch of giant hand painted canvases? Nevertheless, check it out yourself, eager to see more reviews up here!

I took two courses at PFW and they were well worth it. I didn't know anything about woodworking…read moreexcept for what I learned in shop class in 7th grade, basic stuff. Here, they show you how to use each tool, with safety in mind. You are explained the details about wood grain and how it warps, and you get thorough answers to questions you may have. If you are a woman considering taking a course here, you will not get that 'I don't belong here' feeling, you know what I'm talking about ladies. The two instructors are pleasant and professional. The only thing I felt a little iffy about was walking to my car in that neighborhood after class, because you have to park in the street or take public transit, I'm not familiar with the area and it seems a little shady at first glance. I'm from a different ghetto, maybe if I knew this neighborhood better it wouldn't be so bad. Look it up on street view, it's in a residential area, no restaurants in short walking distance to get lunch so bring your own, but the instructors usually have lunch for the students. Unless you're vegetarian, definitely bring your own or you'll be taking a chance. They also have a pot of coffee and a snack to munch on at breakfast.

After a series of evening courses, I'm now much more confident in using tools, thinking about setting up a small home woodshop, and I have a new, beautiful bookcase in my house. The class had a mix of younger and older people, men and women, folks with all sorts of backgrounds, income levels, city v. suburbs. The instructors, Mario and Alan, give a good balance between keeping the class going overall and individual attention while working on each phase of the project. I can attest that they are both very patient and personable. Both Alan and Mario love woodworking and you learn as much from talking through tools or a particular project you might be thinking about for your house as you do from the more formal elements of the course. If you're thinking about woodworking as a hobby or want to see how furniture really comes together, I highly recommend this course.

There is also a previously loved section of fabrics and myriad sewing related delights which have all been donated. It's worth a look for some hidden gems. What Cut & Sew is IMO is a learning center. There are several sewing machines set up in the front room and a longarm in the back. The studio's goal is making sewing accessible to everyone - there are multiple classes, summer camps, after school programs to make this possible for any one, any age. After taking a course on longarm basics, you will be able to rent time on the same longarm to finish your quilts. This is not a destination shop for me but if I'm in the area and they are open, I do stop in to browse the previously loved section (or drop off donations). If I lived in the neighborhood and had kids who could take advantage of her offerings, I would definitely do so.
