For clothes: They don't have a large selection of clothes a (few small racks), and everyone lines up every Wednesday morning and picks through all the good stuff and they look like people who can afford to go to the mall every week so this isn't a good place for low income or poor people, you would think this city would have tons of good donations but no. Goodwill and Salvation Army is your best bet they have racks and racks to pick from read more

I was in Gloucester recently and decided it was time to finally head over to this well- known shop. The shopping plaza area was quite busy & parking took some manuvering But patience paid off and a space opened up! Entering it's clear that they are absolutely COVID compliant & following all mandates. There is a capacity limit along with hand sanitizer. The store was clean, without any underlying musty odors. This thrift store is a non profit and they do great things with the proceeds funding food pantry s and more to the area..... The store layout is interesting but also caused my eyes to be drawn in several directions all at the same time! I honed in on the $1.00 rack of clothing because it looked like it was strategically placed for items to move. Unfortunately there was nothing on it for me to this visit.... But then I noticed a up sign that read " all winter clothing 50% off " causing me to dart across the room. I checked out the outerwear section that somehow immediately became sleepwear.... And there I spotted what at first I thought - No, this can't be real ...a beautiful, NEW Eileen West nightgown in my size priced at $7.00! These are usually very high quality and quite pricey.... So without a " Second Glance" I immediately took it off the rack. Moving on, clutching my find I checked out all the other departments. Yes, I did notice some household items priced quite high and I really couldn't justify buying anything else I didn't need - another time. I went to pay for the nightgown and nearly went into shock - trying not to pinch myself when the associate said my total was $3.50 - the item was 50% off!!!! I was getting a brand new $89.00 item for $3.50! Yes, it's absolutely true! My visit today was obviously a great experience! Im sure it can be like any other - hit or miss. This is a fabulous thrift shop, items are categorized, they are not on top of each other, it has a pleasant smell when you walk in. The staff is always nice and I never leave empty handed! read more

Updated review: August 12,2017 This used to be my favorite thrift store within 50 miles of Boston. Four years ago i gave 2nd Glance, a five star rating, but after visiting another 5 or 6 times since; imo; it's no longer true. I appreciate that this place is a non-profit, but the prices have been upped a crazy amount. The choices & the quality, caring of employees, seem less and less. Because of their mission, I'll give Second Glance another glance, but sadly the place seems to have gone down hill in so many ways. read more

They did not put up a fit over me having my service dog there and the place appears to be dog friendly because when a woman saw my dog and brought in her own the person behind the counter did not object. They seemed to have a nice selection. My only problem was that some of the prices (for the clothes, for example) seemed a bit high for a thrift store. read more

If I could give this place a "no star" I would. I brought into Second Glance a picture of my couch, I also mentioned that it had some discoloration on the arms but all the cushioning and basic style was still good. There were no color stains. They scheduled me for a pick-up. I also looked in the back of their shop and saw a lot of very used furniture with spots, cracks, and even tears that they were selling. This couch could easily be a solution for a young person just starting out. I had paid $150 to have it moved from my 2nd floor apt down to the 1st floor. First someone was missing from their crew, and I had the impression that they were irritated that the couch did not easily fit into their truck. On the spot - in the street- they decided given some water marks on the bottom cuff - not visible indoors - they were not going to take it after all. Too damaged. It might have been nice to hear this before we were in the street behind the truck with part of the couch in the air. So now the couch is sitting on the side of the street in the rain. I can't lift it. The person in charge was rude and disrepectful, The young man with him was very nice, however. This is a thrift store for goodness sakes. read more

This is guilt free shopping at its best! Sales & donations support the Food Pantry and everything you buy has already left a "footprint." Prices are still very low and we've gotten some very good bargains. Friendly, helpful staff keep the turnover brisk. Just lots of kudos to everyone! involved! read more

Second Glance is definitely the second hand shop of choice for the locals. A lot of my adult friends love it. For me, Second Glance is kind of hit or miss. You could find a pair of Express pants one day or a nice vase and then the next day find nothing but skimpy cheap shirts. It's definitely a fun little place to poke around in if you enjoy finding diamonds in the rough. I've never had a miraculous find but my friend said he once found a two piece Armani suit that fit him perfectly even though he has very short arms. Worth a look if you're into thrifting. read more

I have found wonderful stuff over the years. Two weeks ago, 3 pairs of brand new Dansko shoes in my size--never worn--$3 each. Joe's Jeans (retail $158) for...$3. They always have a sale on something. If you have a child or baby, come here and don't neglect the bin (fill a bag for $2 or 25 cents each). I found an amazing assortment of like new cloth diapers, each of which would have cost me $20-$25, and furnished my whole stash for $4. There is an angel woman at this store who seems to appear and show me all the great deals. I would not have found all those diapers without her! Oh, and I've gotten extremely high quality children's and baby's clothing here as well--all the $$$ names (Zutano, Petit Bateau, Under the Nile organic, Hanna Andersson, etc.) I almost hate to write this review because I do not want the competition... read more

Horrible experience my first and only time at this store!!!! I had a ticket on a piece of furniture and was told by the cashier that the piece was sold to someone who was NOT even in the store. Must be nice to sell to favorite people or locals! The cashier was RUDE when I asked her why there was still a tag on the piece. Worst shopping experience. I will not recommend or ever go there again!!! Store needs to learn some customer service and professionalism!! read more

I love donating stuff to this shop--the proceeds all benefit the local food pantry so it's a great way to cycle things through the community. Really nice people when I drop stuff off, they recently changed where to drop, so follow the signage! read more

Horrible waste of time. I would give them a no star as well. Turned away nice leather couches and other quality furniture. Their whole show room is filled with junk. For a non profit they are picky and don't know junk from quality. Do yourself a favor and sell your second hand stuff on Craigslist or donate it to an organization that will appreciate it. I used to love this thrift store. And I relied on it too, for clothing and household items I could afford on a small fixed income. But in the last couple of years it's changed and NOT for the better imo. First of all the prices for second hand, used goods are outrageous now. I often find clothing items that are worn, slightly stained, or otherwise damaged at prices that, I could go to Walmart, Target, Old Navy, etc and buy new for the same prices their asking now. It seems that as soon as it became "trendy" to thrift store shop among folks who don't necessarily NEED to be on such a budget.They seem to be trying to act more like a boutique than a thrift store. They used to have lots of neat old items like,used furniture, dishes, bedding, household items, toys, clothing, shoes, etc. all for very reasonable thrift store prices. But not anymore. I understand this is non profit to benefit the open door. But they seem to have forgotten that there a second hand thrift store, not a boutique. And upping their prices so much has made it impossible for folks on a very limited budget to shop there anymore.The very same people who the open door helps within the community. This doesn't help those who struggle financially in the community to find things they need at a low price they can afford.I think Someone needs to remind them that they are supposed to be helping the low income in the community and that their a second hand, used goods, thrift store!! It's heart breaking to see these unfortunate changes of a once great resource and often life saver for those who can't afford much. read more
