Let me just start off by saying that if I could rate this place a 0 star I would . One day last week, I came to this establishment for a couple beers and was greeted by the bouncer I believe his name was Tony. He was highly unprofessional and he seemed to be more worried about flirty with all the ladies coming in then doing his job. During my hour stay , I witnessed him allow multiple groups of what seemed like underage kids with out carding. I would hope that this is taken care of by management as I called the next day and was told I would receive a call back from the manager and never was. read more

After a full day of bar hopping, and a full night the next day, this was my favorite Nashville bar on Broadway. The band here was amazing! Country music with a bit of a metal flair. I loved it. Great drinks. Great service. The crowds at the bars grew larger as the day went on. This was a great group of people, really into the live music. Hands down "The Best Honky Tonk on Broadway!" My wife and I travel often and have been to many bars, dance halls and Honky Tonks from Gruene Hall, in the Texas hill country to the Flora Bama on the Gulf and many in between. I can honestly say that we would rather visit Desi and Taylor at the Sanderson's Second Fiddle than any other. Desi and his staff are top notch and treat everyone like family when they visit. I could go on all day about how many times they have went out of their way to accommodate us and friends and family that we send by to visit but would much rather you visit and find out for yourself because these guys and gals wrote the book on customer service. The entertainment is always second to none, drinks are cold and mixed to perfection, restrooms are clean and it is evident that they love their job and the people that come by to visit. This space was a little bit tighter but we really liked the band. I was on crutches and the bartender came over regularly to give me appropriate sympathy and to check on me. The bar has been around for a while, and they offered standard bar offerings. I liked that the bands were a little bit more bluesy vs twangy, but probably depends on who is there on a given day. First..this has the potential to be a great bar.We were invited to sit with new friends at the rooftop railing so we could listen to the street concert. We sat there enjoying music and the company of strangers all afternoon - while spending money. At about 4 or 5:00 the waitress told our new friends the table had become "reserved" and they had to leave - not relocate..leave.They requested to speak with management.Second Fiddle offered drinks for the table but they denied the offer.It started to rain so they removed the umbrella from them so they had to stand in the rain trying to get them to leave.After several conversations SF resorted to calling Metro in to remove the couple.My friend was filming them being removed which then got us removed.By now all rooftops were jammed and the street was packed.So 5 hours waiting for the main event and well over $300...they were arbitrarily removed and we were for filming it. Those around us protested as well but to no availl.If you go during a concert... confirm that the table will not become "reserved" late in the day when the big names take the stage.Better to be safe and ask so you don't waste your time and money as we did.If you're not somebody....you're nobody at Second Fiddle. read more

This happened to my brother who happens to be a poplar country band drummer! On January 30, 2018 my hubby and I was at a charity event with our friends from out of town. I left the group to go home I had to get up early. My husband stayed with the group ( pic below ). @ 11:03pm, They went to the Second Fiddle on 420 Broadway all of our friends were allowed to enter but my husband wasn't. When my husband asked for a reason he was told they do not have to give him a reason after several times of wanting to know why with no answer my husband asked is it because of his race and again was told they don't have to give him a reason. Our friends asked and they were told the same thing. The manager came to the door and also told him he couldn't enter but our friends could. When my husband questioned he was told I don't owe you a reason and you can't enter (they all left) This was total RASICM!!!!!! Did a little bar hopping in Nashville while in town for a brief visit last week. Second Fiddle was our second stop downtown. This was our first visit in this bar on lower Broadway. I'm sure it won't be our last. The band in the window drew us in, and right away we found seats at the bar. We ordered beers and settled in for a set with the excellent band playing classic country, originals, and contemporary commercial country music. Hub had Sams (Adams) while I stayed local with Hap & Harry's Tennessee Lager. We stayed for about an hour taking in the atmosphere, imbibing and digging this expert band. A lesser-known honky tonk on the strip, Second Fiddle gets 4 stars because it is always far less crowded than Tootsie's or the Stage. Music is just as good though. It's another narrow bar, but if you have a large group this might be a better place to try--again, just because it's not usually as crowded. Beer is cold, service is decent, and music is kickin'. I wouldn't go for the food but they have the main bar vittles (chicken fingers, fries, etc) if you're drinking and need something to absorb the alcohol. If you're already downtown, don't pass by Second Fiddle. It's worth a beer or two! read more

The Second Fiddle is my favorite honky tonk in all of Nashville. When I move to Nashville, this will be my bar! It's so great that we ended up there for a second night in a row after trying out a sampling of bars on Brodway as well as 2nd street. Here's why it rocked my socks off: * The bouncers outside smile and say hi as you walk by. Is Nashville friendly, or what? * No cover charge * Great stage against the front of the bar so you can stand outside and listen to the band for a song or two before deciding if you want to settle inside. * I heard one of my favorite songs of all time, a cover of Nitty Gritty's, Fishin' in the Dark, as we walked by and I knew this was the bar for me. * The local bands we heard were great. We heard originals as well as a variety of covers spanning traditional and modern country. I heard everything from tunes by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Gary Allan and Keith Urban. * If you feel like dancing, there's a huge open space between the bar and the stage that was intended just for you. * If you're not a dancer, there's plenty of tables around the dance floor from where you can people-watch. These Nashville folks have got their moves down, in kicks and cowbat hats, of course. * There's plenty space to find a seat, even when crowded, just be patient. I had a stool at the bar after 20 minutes of hanging out up there. * The bartenders are SO attentive. Lock eyes, even by accident, and they are on their way! * The drinks are strong and cheap (compared to Chicago prices)! * The decor ... AWESOME!!!!!! Grand Old Opry memorabilia, autographed guitars, banjo, upright bass, instruments I've never seen and old radios all over the walls. * The bathrooms are clean, even at 2am! 3 stalls for the ladies. First stop on Broadway this afternoon. It's a loud venue, but they sound mix to the back of the bar. So fight your impulse to sit up front and center if you're a true live music fan. I have a standard amaretto on the rocks, so I can't tell you if the bar tender is any good. This is a place to have beer / shots. Maybe don't expect anything classy. Had a bathroom run... no toilet seat covers and the toilet seats make you feel like you need them. But that's pretty standard for most popular bars. read more

It was not as populated as other bars, say like Honky Tonk and Tootsies but it was fun. Will go there again if I visit Nashville. Pros: Music: Nice live bands. Good music. Crowd: People seemed to be having fun. Not overpopulated like other bars in the area. Staff: Bartenders and servers were friendly and fast. Don't need to wait long to get your drink(s)!!! We went to the rooftop at Tootsie's. It was packed. The rooftop at Tootsie's is connected to Second Fiddle's rooftop (only separated by a dividing fence. Not a single person was on Second Fiddle's rooftop except a fiddle player from the band who was performing that night. He began practicing and played a few measures from Devil Went Down to Georgia. From the few seconds he played, it was obvious he was incredible. So we left Tootsies and went over to hear this guy play. When we got to the top of Second Fiddle, the bar only had a handful of patrons inside. The band wasn't playing. Just standing around on stage talking about what they should play next. I told them I would love to hear Devil Went Down to Georgia. Since I had yet to hear them play a song, I had no idea of how much I should tip. I scanned their venmo QR @clayshelburn waiting to hear them play. After 20 min, they still played nothing. The lead singer just kept scrolling on his phone as the band kept talking to him about what to play. Again asked him to play Devil Went Down to Georgia. The singer proceeded to get on the mic and berate me for asking him to play without paying him. He announced, "That's not how Nashville works!" as if we were stupid tourists (we are locals). We simply got up and left. I posted on his Instagram of how rude he was and he sent me the following message. "Hello there. I'm sorry you feel that way. But you wanted to hear devil went down to Georgia. That's a one hundred dollar request. Do you know how many people request that song and others in general, scan the QR code, promise to pay, we play it, and they don't pay? You must not. Cuz it's a lot. If it were any other song, it would have been quite a bit different. The rest of the band felt the same way. It's not about me being cocky or whatever. It's about not letting people fuck us over when they don't do what they say they'll do. I don't know you from Adam and you might not have done that. But I wasn't gonna risk the possibility of you being another statistic in the "they lied" column. It's as good as theft. When I was "flipping thru my phone", all I was doing was refreshing my Venmo feed to see if y'all had sent anything toward the song you requested. The $100 song you requested. So, while I see, understand, and respect your plight, try to see it from that point of view." While I sympathize with the unknown struggling musician's demise, the amount of arrogance this guy packs is astounding. Maybe he is extremely talented (we wouldn't know because he never played a single song when we were there) but obviously not talented enough to pack an audience. Obviously he saw things from a different looking glass. I like to see what I am paying for before buying it. I didn't even get a sample. Perhaps it was just a frustrating night for him and his call for cash was out of desperation of no one being there. Nonetheless, it was not how I would have handled things. Humility goes a long way. Pretty solid experience here on a Friday afternoon, the live band did a great job of getting the crowd involved since the place wasn't packed, they were asking for song requested and provided some great great cover songs (including the one and only Johnny Cash). At this stage in my life I'm used to non smoking bars (from California & Ireland) so it was a little strange to be in a place with smoking going on but I was able to put up with it. Since some of my friends smoke it was fine and they enjoyed the novelty of being able to smoke in a bar again. Good spot to stop into while you're walking down broadway in Nashville. read more

The bartenders may be fast, but they also like to pull a fast one on you. I paid for two mixed drinks ($7.25 each, not terrible considering the place) with a $20, and the Britney Spears wannabe took my cash and pocketed the change. I stood there a minute, expecting her to get in the change drawer as quickly as she greeted me and made my drinks, but no. She disappeared, evidently under the impression she deserved a $5.50 tip. She tried to do the same thing to another girl in our party with a $7 order. No, you don't get a $13 tip, sugar. Maybe this is standard operating procedure nowadays, but it's not cool and would keep me from tipping at all on subsequent drinks. The live music was decent and the crowd wasn't obnoxious. Went here on a Friday night, and the band playing had a great setlist of cover tunes while mixing in their original material. The place is pretty big with a huge bar. Jack and Coke is $3.50; super cheap according to this Californian. A good mix of visitors and locals, but everyone was just there to have some drinks and listen to good music. I came to Second Fiddle after tooling around at a couple of other honky tonks. I can't say that it stood out as being awesome, but it definitely was A-OK. Even though it was past 11pm there were still seats available if you wanted one. The band was cracking some country rock. The bartenders were quick with the booze and the drinks were pretty strong considering. You can smoke 'em if you got 'em the way honky tonks are supposed to be. Less crowded, more filling (with cheap beer), awesome live band with no cover charge, what more can you ask for? Becki McLeod was the lead singer with a pretty skilled back up band playing rock with just enough country and honky-tonk for this out-of-towner. I need to ding them one star 'cause they had the amp up one notch above comfortable. If wasn't so loud, we probably would have stayed longer. As my associate and I were deciding which honky-tonk to pop into, the lead vocal caught our attention at the Bluegrass Inn down the street but they were just rapping up and going on a long break or closing up shop for the next band to come in. The place was packed as were most of the bars near by. Seems more of a place where the locals go. There weren't a whole lot of people there in total. And, just us Silicon Valley types and a couple visiting from the UK clapped or otherwise showed any reaction to the music. Ultimately on Broadway you decide which honky-tonk to go to based on who's playing. Everything else is pretty comparable. So if Becki is playing, this is *the* place you want to be. read more

Hands down my favorite place in Nashville. I've visited Nashville numerous times and I'm always blown away by the live music at Second Fiddle. The bouncers are friendly and actually speak to you. Once you get inside the bar is BIG. There's tons of room to get up and walk around or dance. Smoking is allowed, but it's never seemed like a "smokey" bar to me. The Second Fiddle is an excellent stop for your honky tonking trip down Lower Broadway. The bands are consistently talented and energetic. The crowd is laid back but dancing along. Even late in the night the crowd, drunk or sober, is better behaved than many other Downtown Nashville spots. The crowd is a little thinner than its neighbors, but that only means fewer shoulder checks and elbows in your back. The bartenders are some of the best on Broadway. Anyways, after my hangover cured, my memory started to come back. This bar was a blast! I don't remember the band that played, but they were awesome and got the crowed involved. I came here on a Monday night. It wasn't too busy, but had enough people inside to have a good time! Plus they didn't charge a cover. I would definitely recommend stopping here in order to have a good time, but avoid a lot of the tourists. This place seemed a little more "local". While walking up and down Broadway, I knew I had to chose a country western bar and listen to honky tonk before I left town. I really don't like country music and knew that these bars wouldn't change my mind. It didn't. But country music is Americana and I had to experience it live, love it or not. The bar was long and the live band played at the front with their backs to the window so patrons walking by could see and hear them. Because they were playing some Sweet Home Alabama when I walked by, I thought it would ok to come in here. Bartenders were not very sociable and the crowd really didn't seem to get into the music.
