I've been here recently now for 2 shows that I would call nontraditional, but man, they were great shows, and I had such a blast. The layout of the theater is great. I was on the 1st level for one show and on the 2nd level for the 2nd one. Despite being on the 2nd level, it still gave a personal feel and kept us engaged. If you don't like heights, make sure to arrive early to get in the lower level, as once you're on the upper level, it does go shallow & up. Getting cocktails from the bar downstairs typically has a long line, but if you go upstairs, there's usually another make-shift bar to help offset it. I didn't take advantage of any parking, as I used a ride service to the venue, as I just wanted to get dropped off at the door. It's hit or miss with parking, especially if there is something going on at the arena (basketball, concert, baseball game, etc...) Looking forward to the next event.

We walked to the venue, so I have no comment about parking. However, our show was supposed to start at 9:30pm, but the earlier showing was running a little late and so we were waiting outside for quite a while before we could choose our seats. We were invited to enter the lobby area of the building to order drinks, use the restroom, and buy some merch, so that helped to pass the time. Since I paid for Row A seating (the closest to the stage aside from the VIP section), I was invited to sit anywhere in those rows- so the rows themselves were reserved, but no specific seats, so you'll still have to call dibs on your preferred spot. As a 5 ft 8 in woman, the seating felt a little tight for my liking. Most people stood up for me to get passed them, aside from one lady, and when I walked past her I was worried my hips would smack her face. Other than that, I didn't have any problem watching the performance- nobody blocked my view and I think if I sat further away, I'd still have a decent view of the stage. We had a heckler in the crowd who kept yelling obscenities as the host of the show, fortunately by the second act he was removed from the event. There was a 15 minute intermission for the show, which was a good opportunity for more drinks or a bathroom break. I recommend using the restrooms on the second floor, as they are more hidden than the first floor. I'm glad I went to this event, and I would consider returning to the Herberger Theater Center when they have any other fun events in store.

(check their website for year round performance info.) For the annual Phoenix Improv Festival at the Herberger Theater, they jury in the best groups from around the United States for one action packed weekend. All you have to do is show up at the theater (well, get tickets first of course) and you'll have an opportunity to see some of the most interesting improv groups from around the USA all without spending a minute waiting for a flight out of sky harbor airport. Get ready to stretch your perceptions of what improv is, as these groups have so many different takes on it. Some will make you laugh, others will be wickedly irreverent or will amaze you with their talents at weaving a cohesive story line. Still others will have you thinking about them a month or longer after seeing their performance because of all the subtle intricacies woven in. Phoenix's veteran improv groups frequently travel to other major cities to perform and have a key role in teaching and mentoring some of the up and coming local groups participating in the festival. What a great opportunity for all to share the stage with groups from outside AZ and interact offstage. fantastic learning opportunities that will only make the Phoenix improv community continue to grow better and stronger and deeper. They have a fantastic vision that's come so far and deserves our continued support!

However, the prices are more than fair: how can you beat three performances for $15.00!? That is cheaper than a movie, and SO MUCH more fun! I attended both the 7 PM and 9:30 PM shows on April 18, 2009 (for a total of six performances), and without a doubt (and of no surprise to me) I was most pleased with WeirDass. Most of you will know Stephnie Weir from MADtv. I was doubly pleased because I had not expected any, what I would call, "headliners." Though I think there is a huge opportunity to market the Festival to the masses that is being overlooked...all in all, I think the Festival has the potential to become great.

The cast was hilarious, the drinks were great and they did an awesome job involving the audience. I was honestly worried it might be a little cringe, but I was laughing the whole time! What really stood out was how they handled a medical emergency toward the end of the show. One of the actors noticed right away, the lights came up immediately, they asked if there were any doctors or nurses and they cleared the area so quickly and professionally. It was really impressive to watch. Once they made sure everything was okay, the show picked right back up and everyone was able to keep having a great time. But, the new energy that comes from making the company feel important shows through. When you go to Ballet Az performances now, you see, and feel the change. That's not to say the past didn't have high points. It's just the time comes for change. The risk is always what that will be. In this case it has been a professional plus. . The change not only comes from the artistic director. These changes have occurred from the top down. I want to say thank you for the way people have cooperated to give Ballet AZ a whole new feel. I believe the potential is there to see much exciting growth as time goes on. So, is it worth possibly going for your first time. Do you want to go other than your annual Nutcracker. Perhaps buying a season package. I can comfortably say, YES! I personally hate the idea of going downtown to find parking. I personally park at the camelback and central train station. It takes you to across the street from Symphony Hall. And leaving, you don't have to cross the street, the station is right there. Just a thought.
