Having done this twice now, I won't come back a third time. The novelty wore off upon our second outing, but I still think it's absolutely worth doing at least once! Some things still hold true a year later: 1. Scheduling, paying for, and signing the waiver for your adventure online is unbelievably easy. You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or canoes for 2, 3, or 4 hours at a time (embarking between 9a and 3p. You can add a lesson before your rental, a cell phone dry bag, a dog life jacket, and a large dry bag all for an additional nominal fee. You can launch from Sebago Trails (side note: they have a really neat - and super secure - docking system/apparatus for you to get in and out of your vessel safely) or pick-up and take-away (something we haven't done, but - contrary to what I said above - *is* something we'd come back here for if that was an option for us)! 2. There's plenty of parking! Unfortunately: a) One of our kayaks was broken (which they told us about, but still put one of us in), and in the end we had to turn around after a little bit of paddling to swap it out. The kayaks aren't all the same brand or style, either, so where I was in something super sleek (that moved quickly through the water), my partner was in something much bulkier (that took a lot more work to paddle). b) The staff was so friendly and welcoming the first time! The second time, not so much. So, for us anyway, it's a bit hit or miss there. The SPTC map: a) The first time we came we kayaked Panther Run (a really mellow, lazy river inlet), portaged across the Mill Street Dam, kayaked all the way up Panther Pond, and ended at Hawthorne Beach where we swam and enjoyed snacks. It was a workout, but we saw so much wildlife and hardly saw other people. Such a peaceful, lowkey, lovely way to spend a day! b) The second time we came there had been no rain most of the summer. And that changed the Panther Run experience entirely (as there was barely any water): we got stuck on the sand so often, that we decided to turn around and head out into Sebago Lake instead (another route that STPC offers if you're not renting and taking away). We kayaked up to Hot Tub Island (which is this man made ring of stones) for lunch but it - and the knee deep water around it - was absolutely covered in and full of bird poop. So we kayaked over to Raymond Beach which was the other spot STPC suggested, but it was so crowded we had nowhere to pull up. In the end it was a nice day bobbing in the water - we saw lots of fish, baby ducks, turtles, and an enormous barn owl! - but not for $90. read more

We rented 2 paddle boards yesterday & we had the best time! The rental included the life jacket & paddle. We are new to this & don't necessarily have the best sense of direction. They provided a quick overview and a laminated map. Everything was ready to go when we got there & they came right down to unload us when we got back! The ladies working were attentive, educational & had great personalities! We had a group of 11 for a bachelorette party and Sebago Trails was so accommodating while we were dealing with a storm passing by. They waited and started an hour later, and the guides were totally awesome. No experience necessary- the dock to get into the water was super easy - and the trail was totally beautiful. I went for my first paddle in this area, and I'm so glad I did it with Sebago Trails Paddling! The customer service was fantastic, they had a great contactless system set up, and the launch apparatus makes getting into the boat seriously accessible. Like, it's kind of impossible to fall in, and I've seen some people really panic (understandably) during a docked boat enter/exit so this is fantastic. When you paddle here, you can either go into this peaceful river inlet, which I did, or you can brave Lake Sebago and its choppy motorboat wakes. It took about an hour to paddle to the end, and another hour back. I saw turtles, ducklings, a weasel, and hardly any humans. Perfect! read more

While staying on Panther pond we were happily surprised to find that Sebago Trails Paddling delivered the kayaks and paddle boards to the cottage. The delivery fee was minimal and we'll worth not having to deal with the hassle of strapping the kayaks to our car(wouldn't know where to start as it would be our BFF year time). The relaxing paddle up the river to panther pond was great and allowed for us to see some turtles and ducks basking nearby. Panther pond was nice to paddle and didn't have as much boat traffic. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We did a canoe rental and they walk us through a map of Johnson Bay, some recommendations of where to beach, and the spots for the best views of the lake. They gave us time estimates on getting to various places and then walked us down to the launch area. They helped launch the canoe and sent us in our way. They also offered rental waterproof bags -- cell phone size and up. We went with the $3 cell phone bag and it worked well. They allowed us to take their laminated map on the trip and they hung on to our keys for one less thing to remember. All in all, extremely helpful. They could not have been more helpful! The kayaks that came with our VBRO house were inadequate -- as a regular kayaker I knew they were actually dangerous, being too small for adults and hence very tipsy. I stopped by Sebago Trails, and in five minutes they arranged not only for me to rent two properly sized kayaks for the rest of my vacation, but also said they would deliver them to the house in 20 minutes!! Not only did they deliver them -- they carried them to a convenient spot near the dock. And they simply picked them up at the end of our stay. The kayaks were excellent -- the standard 10-12 foot ones I use on the Potomac River in DC - on stretches where the current can be strong. I will definitely use Sebago Trails the next time I'm in the area -- two thumbs way up! read more

Sebago Trails Paddling is the perfect place to rent kayaks. They are a service oriented business and made it easy for my daughter and I to go kayaking. Rather than picking up our kayaks to take to transport on our own, we worked with Katie to deliver to a recommended paddling spot. Our kayaks were delivered to Dundee Pond which is perfect for paddling. Large enough to keep us busy for a few hours. Bill had our kayaks waiting at waters edge so after he gave us a spiel about the logistics of the pond and where we could score some blueberries hanging over the water, we were on our way. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect spot to paddle. I highly recommend Sebago Trails Paddling. This company was wonderful. I called the day before to find out about options to rent and was explained our options by a very friendly and knowledgable staffer. We were traveling with a 9-year old and 4-year old boy and wanted a fun option. They told us about Dundee Beach a small beach on the beautiful Sebago Lake and recommended it as a good spot for kids to swim. They were right! We ran a bit late and had to make a change to our reservation and they were very accommodating. They dropped off a kayak, a paddle board and a canoe for us. We were able to take off from the shore and explore the lake then come back and swim on the roped off beach. When finished they came to get the stuff fast and were very friendly. It's run by lovely people. The website and pricing is accurate and they respond quickly and are very helpful. I highly recommend renting from them. read more

My parents and I decided to go kayaking on a whim during the 4th of July weekend. We picked Sebago Trails because their website was easy to use on a mobile phone and their prices were clearly stated on the website. I called on Saturday and reserved kayaks for Sunday at 10:00. We reserved a double kayaks for my mother and I and a sit-a-top for my father. I told them we were coming from Portland and had no idea where in the lake to go. They said they would drive us to a spot to put in for a delivery charge of $15.00. Since we didn't know the area or have a rack, that was perfect for us. On Sunday morning, we were super tired, so we called to say we wouldn't be there till 11. They said no problem! When we got there, we signed some paperwork and paid up. We paid $60.00 for the double and $45.00 for the sit-a-top. We also paid $15.00 for delivery, totaling $120.00. Prices were accurately reflected on the website. They showed us a map of the lake, and described where they would recommend we go - a spot that gives access to Jordan pond and to a river towards Panther Pond. The rental included paddles and lifejackets. They had really adjustable lifejackets, so they had something for all of us, regardless of our size. The lifejackets were specially made for kayaks and were really comfy. Our kayaks were set up on a trailer when we got there. After we paid up, selected our life jackets, and figured out where we were going, we hopped in the car and followed the trailer to the spot to put in. We are a little experienced, but not experts, so the Sebago Trails guy explained a little about our particular kayaks, helped us put them in the water, and held the kayaks while we got in. He advised when he would be back in the area for other kayakers, but encouraged us not to feel like we had to be back at that time - they would fetch the kayaks whenever we called them. We asked what end of day would be, and he suggested 5:30 but said that was a soft time and they were very flexible. Our kayaks were great. The staff and owner were very friendly and they were eager for us to have a good time. We had a terrific day, and $120.00 for entertainment for 3 people for a full day is totally reasonable. I look forward to renting with them again and have already recommended them to friends. I hope their business goes well. read more

Looking for something cool to do besides eating or going to the movies? This was a fantastic time! It was recommended to try Dundee Pond so I booked an excursion for my husband and me. We met at the shop and got outfitted for our trip. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. We went a short distance to Dundee drop off point. We were briefed on getting in and out of our kyaks. We were off exploring. It was a beautiful day and I felt very relaxed and interested in looking at things from a different perspective. We saw ducks, a beaver and some fish. We picnicked on and island and had a great time. 10:30-1pm was perfect for a day getaway. Highly recommend this as something magical, relaxing and different to do. read more

My boyfriend and I recently camped at Sebago Lake State Park and we were struggling with how to rent a canoe until we found Sebago Trails Paddling Co online and loved the fact that they would drop the canoe off to us at our camp site. What a great business model! However, the fact that they have EXCELLENT customer service sealed the deal for us and we'll definitely be using them again. They went far above and beyond when they rescued us from a public boat launch off the Songo River because the Lake had gotten WAY too choppy for us to paddle back through to the campsite. They saved the day for us, we were feeling awful defeated and there was no hesitation or judgment on their part! They picked us right up and took us and the canoe back to our site.
