My wife and I wanted to do a tour in Seattle but had already hit some of the main spots like Pike Place Market, Seattle Center, etc. We wanted to dig into something different and saw Under the Radar's tour for Georgetown and Alki. Our goal was to find someone who could show us a side of Seattle that we did not know existed - surprise us! We booked with Lynn and spent a great day seeing the best of these two locations. Lynn seems to have an inexhaustible supply of stories about how the the city was settled and how Georgetown developed over the decades. I never knew that Georgetown was its own city during the beginning of prohibition, nor did I know that it was originally the ultimate party town - bars, ladies of the night, and gambling! She was able to explain to us the symbols in the murals that are on multiple walls in Georgetown. Not just the main symbols like the hat and boots, City Hall and Boeing - but also bike jousting (!) and the sad princess. Details that we could never have figured out on our own. Lynn took us to the Georgetown trailer park mall - open only on the weekends - which is a smart, funky gathering of trailers offering clothing, jewelry, and whimsical art. We had possibly some of the best cookies we have ever tasted at the Lowrider bakery inside one of the small trailers- I bought a half dozen to bring home and we finished them before the night was over! We checked out the brewery, the historical buildings, and the glass blowing studio - where we bought a beautiful deep blue bowl for a steal. We drove onto Alki in West Seattle in Lynn's SUV. While she drove, we heard about the origins of Harbor Island, the corruption scandal behind the West Seattle bridge and the shame of Ballast Island. We walked the Alki beach and were lucky enough to see a Harbor Porpoise and a sea lion. We had a delicious (and cheap!) lunch of fish and chips at Pepperdock and great cocktails next door. All in all, it was a fabulous way to spend an afternoon and see a side of Seattle we had no idea existed. Lynn has a knack of cluing in to what we were really interested in - and then providing us with more. If you like quite private tours with only a few People you should do a tour with Lynn. As she is a native Seattle citizen for around 30 years she knows a lot about this city and its inhabitants. She explains everything in a very friendly, entertaining way and has a comprehensive knowledge of the city and places, that sweeping tourists are unlikely to see. On these tours you may get to learn Seattle and nature surrounding Seattle. Together with Lynn we walked along Seattle Beach, had a typical American pick nick there, saw old trees, stones, Blue Herons, seals, hummingbirds and took a lot of amazing nature photos. As we had a special focus on photography of nature, landscapes, animals, plants we asked Lynn if she would also bring us to Northwest Wildlife Trek Park. In the wonderful park you may walk or / and do a tour with a special tram, that brings you really close to the free roaming animals, such as elks, bison. On our wish Lynn brought us to this park, so we could take amazing pictures of different plants, animals that were not in tiny cages. Next to the Park there is a rhododendron park. At the time we went there, not all rhododendrons were blooming anymore. But the park with really high and old trees is amazing with moss and ferns everywhere. We also saw a free living Black tailed Deer just 4 meters from us. It ate some ferns and we could do a lot of amazing photos of it. So if you are interested in both, the city of Seattle and surrounding nature your first choice should be a tour of Seattle under the Radar with Lynn. I did the Neighborhoods 101 tour with Lynn on July 30th and had an experience that far exceeded what I thought it would be! I was impressed by Lynn before I even made my reservation. I was initially unsure/skeptical of purchasing a ticket without first talking to Lynn to make sure she was legit and making sure the tour was right for me. After leaving her a voicemail, Lynn very quickly called me back, and we had an informative conversation about what I was looking for in the tour. I felt so reassured and happy that Lynn cared enough to take the time to see what exactly I was looking for and tell me about how she could accommodate that. I am moving to Seattle in two weeks, and feel very overwhelmed with the task of figuring out what neighborhood I want to live in. I had a few neighborhoods in mind, which happened to be the neighborhoods already on the tour. Lynn was able to customize the tour to even further to make sure I got the most out of our time together. It felt wonderful to spend a few hours with an actual local and hear their insights on the ins and outs of each neighborhood. This is information you can't just get anywhere or on your own. I've taken many tours, and this one was memorable because of tour guide Lynn. We met just before lunch and she spent the entire afternoon showing me Capital Hill, Beacon Hill and Georgetown neighborhoods from an insider's perspective. After starting at Espresso Vivace Brix with a delicious expresso drink she recommended--delicious!--Lynn and I toured Volunteer Park & it's magnificent conservatory, the streets of Capital Hill--walking into book stores, restaurants, record shops, funky & modern eateries--while she discussed the area's significance & history. In her sparkling clean Ford Edge, she drove me through the International district, through Beacon Hill and into Georgetown where we walked around and visited the historic and artsy spaces. Lynn is friendly, informative and FUN! Spending the afternoon with her was like being with a longtime girlfriend. She had historic photos of Seattle to illustrate her points, drew upon her 30-year knowledge of the city, and asked Google when we needed additional information. I went on the Capitol Hill tour with Lynn and I have to say Wowza this girl knows what's up! I picked that tour because I used to live on Capitol Hill, but my boyfriend had never experienced it. Well I soon realized on the tour that neither had I! She immediately brought us to Vivace, which I was very familiar with, but she recommended a drink that I have never heard of, which is now a drink that makes me want to go back to Capitol Hill! Then she brought us all over different areas that I never thought to go and showed me an amazing history that I never knew. Then we went to some of the local bars, but still she schooled me with really cool facts that I never would have known! I had never been to Seattle before and found the Capitol Hill neighborhood tour given by Seattle Under the Radar Tours. The owner, Lynn is so knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. It was like visiting an old friend. She showed us places I would have never found on my own. She knew specific history of different buildings and we got to see some of her favorites. We stopped and saw some cool plants at Volunteer Park Conservatory. We smelled the lovely cedar woodwork at Elliott Bay Bookstore, had our touristy picture taken in front of the Black Sun in front of the VP Reservoir, and had narwhal balls at The Unicorn! I think my favorite was Chophouse Row. Can't go wrong with Lynn, you'll have fun no matter what you see and do!! read more

Lynn was really great. She really took the time to describe what we were seeing, tasting, everything. She also has what must be imo more intimate knowledge of many areas. First, she was punctual. She drove her vehicle - clean and late model - to our destinations, and made sure we stayed hydrated. She was perfectly polite and conversive, and answered our every question. Never did we feel that Lynn was simply lecturing us on this or that; Her love of the city is clear. We were also privy to many of Seattle's nooks and crannies, the things that make Seattle Seattle. Going on this tour with Lynn was like seeing an old friend in a new city for the first time. A friend that knows where all of the interesting and out of the way places are and she wants to show them to you. She was just as passionate about showing us her city as we were excited to see it. Highlights include a fancy chocolate shop in a refurbished brewery, the Seattle conservatory and an introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. Capitol Hill tour was great! Lynn knows so much about this I learned about awesome (diamond in the rough) places there that I had not visited before even though I had lived on the Hill for for 13 years. Even the places I had been before I got to see through new eyes due to the inclusion of history about the places we visited. The whole tour was relaxed but not too slow, and I loved that we got to ask so many questions due to the small tour size. Took my first tour (Neighborhoods 101) with Seattle Under the Radar Tours yesterday and it was so much fun. Lynn was incredibly knowledgeable about Seattle past and present, as well as energetic and friendly. Our vehicle was spacious and comfortable. We explored many of Seattle's hidden gems, like quirky '50s landmarks saved in a neighborhood park, old breweries, local artwork, and a great view of downtown Seattle. And we saw a seal off Alki!
