    Entrance to the opera house

You gotta give them five stars just for the fact that they operate what is very likely a first tier opera house, very very few cities in this country can afford to operate a house like this. The performance I saw was was good and One thing that was very good. The acting in the opera was excellent the maybe the best I've ever ever seen the orchestra was good I didn't really love the music but that's my personal preference and the voices of the singers were beautiful. It's a nice facility. They have a they have snack bars on each levels for and they have a restaurant but you need to book in advance. Overall It's a five-star experience. it's not cheap but it's a five-star experience.

Great entertainment option for families/date nights/friends night out/tourists! McCaw Hall houses the Seattle opera and PNW ballet, so there are always quality shows to watch when you visit. Seats are relatively comfy and the theater is clean and modern. I especially enjoy having the addition of the subtitle bar above the stage to translate operas since many of them are not in English.

The venue is stunning -- full of majestic arches, ornate architectural details, elegant balconies, and a grand old-theater atmosphere that immediately makes the evening feel special. Even before the performance starts, you already feel like you're having a real night out rather than just attending a show. The massive multi-tiered seating area is very impressive, yet the acoustics still felt excellent and immersive throughout the performance. One thing we especially enjoyed was spending time outside beforehand looking through the illuminated displays and posters for upcoming productions. It really builds anticipation and adds to the magical atmosphere of the evening. Whether you are seeing Phantom of the Opera or another performance, the Paramount feels like one of those classic theaters that turns an event into a memorable experience.

The touring production of The Phantom of the Opera at Paramount Theatre was absolutely fantastic…read more The cast was incredible, and the production itself deserved a much better audience environment than what the theater allowed. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst theater etiquette experiences I've ever had. During the first act, a man seated behind us repeatedly sang along during the performance. When I politely asked him to stop, the person next to him sarcastically pointed at the stage and said, "The show is over there," while the behavior continued. Around us, multiple people talked throughout songs and scenes, and later in the evening I even saw someone openly filming the show on an iPhone. I eventually had to leave my seats (Main Floor 2, Row G) and speak to management because the disruptions were so bad I couldn't focus on the performance. The only solution offered was seats in the very back of the orchestra. By that point, the experience was already frustrating enough that it took a while to calm down and enjoy the show again. What's most disappointing is that this is the SECOND time I've experienced terrible audience behavior at this theater. I previously saw Back to the Future here and dealt with nonstop talking during that performance too. I attend theater regularly in Southern California at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and also frequently see shows in New York City. Ushers there actively monitor audience behavior and quickly shut down disruptions. At the Paramount, it felt completely unmanaged. For the prices being charged -- around $350 for my tickets through Ticketmaster -- audience members should not have to deal with talking, singing, and filming throughout a Broadway performance. Amazing production. Extremely disappointing theater management and audience control.

Before the show, they hosted a discussion with the director and production team, giving the audience a chance to ask questions and get a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and how everything comes together (which seems so intense!). Honestly, such a cool way to make ballet more accessible and get people interested in the performing arts. For a suggested donation of $25, you get to meet the crew, ask your burning questions (like, how do they make it look so effortless?), and then watch the full dress rehearsal. Not a bad deal at all. The dancers were absolutely phenomenal, and since Emergence hasn't been performed in Seattle for seven years, it feels like a big moment. Safe to say, it's going to do really well. I think they've got a few more of these dress rehearsals/production team discussions lined up this season for upcoming shows and if you've ever wanted to see world-class ballet without committing to a full-priced ticket, this is 100% the way to do it. Definitely worth checking out!

I knew nothing whatsoever of this company, and had no expectations, although I have seen many productions of the Nutcracker in my life, incl. the New York City Ballet, the Cleveland Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Ballet Met in Columbus. This company is a full school with a professional division. I didn't have the same expectations for professionalism as I would have for an all-professional ballet company, hence only 4 stars. However, all things considered, it really was a 5 star performance for what can be accomplished at this level. It is obvious that Vera Altunina, the director, whom I knew nothing about, is a woman of exquisite taste, experience, thoughtfulness, and intelligence. We are incredibly blessed here in Puget Sound in the fields of classical ballet as well as music. I was so impressed by the quality of dancing overall, the gorgeous scenery drops (not sure of my stage jargon here!), the stage craft, the mime quality, the costumes, and the lighting. Ms. Altunina is responsible for the choreography presented here, and I believe I recognized some familiar steps here and there showing she has adopted and adapted elements from the versions she danced in Russia so that everything suits her dancers. No one looked awkward or ungainly. I was immensely thrilled by the stage presence, acting, deportment, etc. of every dancer, whether the youngest of the performers or the older professionals. Everyone looked thoroughly prepared and experienced, so I'm guessing that Ms. Altunina is an extremely organized and skillful director. I was also extremely delighted by the two guest principal dancers, both from Kiev. Unfortunately, I didn't get a program, and so have no names to give you. Apparently, I was told later, that the principals are husband and wife. The Nutcracker prince impressed me with his long beautiful lines, elegant, graceful port de bras, and sublime effortless technique. His Sugar Plum Fairy was petite, elegant, and precise. Their harmony was wonderful, the dancing apparently effortless. I asked a few of the company dancers afterwards how they got those wonderful painted stage screens, and was told they had been painted in the Ukraine. This I could well believe, as they reminded me of some of the work of painting I have seen evident in book illustrations, etc. (The Ukraine, and also Russia, must have a factory that cranks out extremely talented artists, and perhaps we should be hiring their art teachers as well!) I also appreciated all the costumes, and was happy to see the snowflakes wearing kokoschnik-like headpieces with their pretty costumes. All of the performance appeared smooth and professional. I can't believe we can see this for a modest price in the much-maligned suburbs, without the hectic drive to the Seattle Center area. This is not to say you shouldn't go to see the PNB Nutcracker. I'd say go to both, as I myself will be later this month. One cannot have too much beauty and magic in their lives. We are already incredibly blessed to have Pacific Northwest Ballet here, and to discover that we have yet another ballet company is just extra whipping cream! Go take your kids, if possible, to one of the student performances. I sat next to a 3 year old boy, who appeared enraptured.
