This was my first experience with immersive theatre. I liked being a part of the set, however there was no heat in the building used for the set of American Buffalo so it was literally freezing during the show. To be fair, they did email all guests to warn them that this was the case and they provided blankets enough for everyone at the performance. I thought it was neat that they were able to fill this space with antiques and tchotchkes appropriate for the era of this David Mamut play. It was interesting that there was seating way up high on the second floor and also couches on the ground floor that we could all cozy up in for the duration of the show. Everything was available for sale post production, so that was also a novel concept. I would come to another production of theirs in the future - it is definitely different but unique! read more

Definitely not what I expected, is what comes to mind when summarizing my first experience with the Seattle Immersive Theatre. I invited my friend to see "Storyville Rising", which I thought would be a play about debauchery and hedonism. Those themes were certainly there, but the actors also explored racism and politics in a very poignant and somewhat shocking way that I didn't anticipate. It was much more intense and deep, which isn't a bad thing. I just wasn't prepared for the night ahead of me. I was impressed by how the actors threw themselves into the roles and it really gave me a sense for what New Orleans was like back in those days. If you're familiar with Sleep No More in New York, this is like that but on a smaller scale and in a more controlled environment. Go see for yourself! Not an experience to forget. read more

I've seen two shows by this group. One was their adaptation of Turn of the Screw, the other was Harvest, a haunted house. Turn of the Screw - only two actors, two rooms where we followed the governess around. The actors were wonderful, especially the guy playing multiple roles. I really felt empathy with the main character's dread and the creeping sense of horror. The main room with the bar was super cool, and I liked that fancy wear was encouraged. Harvest - this wasn't good, unfortunately. Others have complained about the amount of time you spend in the house, but that wasn't necessarily the problem. Other haunted houses are also short, but those tend to be filled with jump scares and an oppressive atmosphere that shoves you through a line of scares. In this case, you were allowed to explore different rooms, which maybe was meant to allow the horror and understanding of the story to build, but it just didn't work. Also, the themes of ragdoll people + medical doctor + satanic ritual + creepy cult "daughter" just felt cobbled together and didn't work. I think you either need to choose a path -- creepy and atmospheric OR jump scare filled and crass. This felt like a weird, unsuccessful mix of both. Anyway, this is a good group and I'm sure they will learn from this year and improve their next Halloween event. read more

I really wanted to enjoy Harvest, but it was just not a great experience. It was strange and uncomfortable, and then over really quickly. It had some good ideas going, but they were cut short. I thought it was just starting to get going and was starting to get into it, and then I found myself pushed out of the venue and onto the street and then it was just over. Two girlfriends and I came in late on a Saturday night to see the Few Clothes Cabaret - the concept and the performers are wonderful, but the staff spoiled the vibe for us. Before we were even into the venue space the greeter/cashier was rude, telling us to wait before even saying "hello" and for a theater performance, was about as out-of-character as you could possibly be. His "welcome" speech ended with the words "we will throw you the f*** out" - it was like he already hated us. Sorry for coming to your theater, man. The cute space, friendly (if inexperienced) bartenders, and mostly-lovely performers just couldn't salvage the vibe for us. Beginning on the wrong foot like that really charted a crappy course for the night. Additionally, the website doesn't describe the seating situation - if you aren't there early you will be left to stand or awkwardly perch for the night. Go early to get a table spot or a couch, the seating is NOT enough for all guests. read more

This is for Harvest. I should've looked at reviews before spending money on this show. My friend, boyfriend and I were all excited for this show. It sounded like a fun and scary interactive show opportunity. We showed 30 minutes prior as asked, hung out for a bit in a cool, dark lounge with drinks (for purchase) before being ushered into the "show". Once inside, we were told to explore different alleys. We were rushed pave to place with not much to see. We didn't even get to see everything as the actors told us something "important" was going to happen. Maybe 5 minutes later it was over. All that were there stood outside wondering if that was the end. Sadly, it was. If I could give zero stars, I would. $45 for 20 minutes of nothing scary and actors running around yelling with no climax and no conclusion. read more

Extremely disappointed that the Seattle immersive theater Facebook page is now hiding all negative reviews in an attempt to save face. I had posted about my disappointment about the Harvest show I'd attended and received a very thoughtful and apologetic response from one of the performers, but now the Facebook page appears to be hiding all reviews all together. Shame on those in charge of social media, how immature. Original review: I went to the 8:30pm showing of Harvest tonight and found it entertaining, if not quite as frightening as expected. I exited the performance feeling like it had been cut a bit short, but still content with my experience. Then, immediately after we left the building, the actress who played the doctor ran out screaming that whoever had talked about touching one of the nude performers was "F****** NOT WELCOME BACK." While I understand that the offending comment must've been lewd, offensive, and therefore completely inappropriate, this end to the show going experience was extremely uncomfortable and awkward to me as an audience member. It seemed unprofessional and really tainted my entire experience, which is a shame. read more

Went to to see Dump Site years ago when the theatre was in South Seattle. It was a well-developed, well-acted, well-paced show. The staff were all great and the clientele friendly and talkative (in the Lounge area). Lots of great pieces of art and amazing atmosphere. So I was excited when it moved to my QA hood. They really couldn't fill the space. It was like their ideas, style, and common courtesy diffused into the ether. I went to two shows. Both were uncomfortable, uninspired, overpriced, and strangely hostile. Never again. read more

Okay, the one star reviews are definitely unwarranted. But so are the 5 star. It was fun, spooky, and weird. Unlike other haunted houses, you didn't have to wait an hour and a half for 30 minutes of fear. Theatre is not a rare find in Seattle; anyone that's lived for for any length of time can certainly name at least one. Theatre like Seattle Immersive, however, is rare. Every production they put on is carefully engineered to immerse the audience as fully as possible, whether by allowing them to interacting the props and set pieces, or by giving them a tiny glimpse into the psyche of the characters in front of them. The experience is unique and creates a level of emotional and intellectual investment that other companies can only dream about. This is the real future of theatre. read more

Seattle Immersive brings a whole new take to a centuries old concept of theater. While the Greeks performed in a theater that could hold thousands, SIT goes the other direction and brings the audience inward, toward the actors and the scenes. This sense of intimacy is unique, and the chances they take are daring. My first experience with SIT was at their original production of Dump Site. What a risk they took! Producing a show no one had ever heard of, in a somewhat questionable part of south Seattle. But SIT's devotion to a unique, intimate, and quite frankly amazing experience was evidence in their choice of actors, their attention to set detail, and of course, material. Wandering from room to room to witness a show, which literally takes place in different rooms, creates a whole new spectrum of live theater. When I saw SIT's Romeo and Juliet at their large (now closed) space in Queen Anne, it was the most moving version of the play I had ever seen, brought to life by the hard work and dedication of SIT's hard working leaders, Amy Baldwin and Paul Thomas. They created Juliet's bedroom, an "outdoor" courtyard area, a party lounge area, and a church within the walls of the warehouse. Moving from room to room really forces the audience to explore. Their last show, American Buffalo, was a fun, close and personal view of David Mamet, set inside of a second hand shop created just for the show. What an innovative idea to make a store as a frame to a greater drama! At SIT, you are no longer strapped into a dumpy, hard flip chair of an auditorium to watch a proscenium-based show. SIT brings plays to life, and gives the attendee a 360 degree memorable experience by having the show take place around you instead of directly in front of you. I cannot wait to see what SIT brings next! read more

I am what you probably would term a "theatre snob" as I am a trained actor and see a lot of plays and shows throughout Seattle. A friend turned me on to Seattle Immersive when they first started doing shows and I have been to every piece since! The first show I saw was "Strange Snow" at a house in the Sand Point neighborhood and was a 3 person play about a brother, his best friend and the sister. It was dramatic, intense and only allowed between 10-12 audience members at a time. The second show I saw was "Supraliminal" in South Seattle at the college and at the old Georgetown Steamworks. This one really amped up the character count and included actual history of the area. I really loved the beginning portion that was like a college lecture about parapsychology (I love ghost hunting shows!) It was a great Halloween time of year piece and a great way to introduce us to the characters in a formal setting before being bussed (yes bussed- in a school bus no less) to the Steamworks location. The place was huge and amazing and you could feel the history all around you. Needless to say the ending was intense and it left me wanting more! I heard that after the first weekend they even edited the show to make it better-I sincerely respect any company that is able to not rest on their laurels! The next show I saw was "Dump Site," a nuanced crime drama about a missing girl from the 80's being connected to a now deceased father of the 2 main characters who are brother and sister. That one was in a built out warehouse in Sodo and even incorporated an elaborate cardboard box maze with a secret speakeasy lobby/rooms with weird,dark artifacts and furniture. The play ended with a true reveal at the end in a huge room with a truck parked inside for us to look through its contents. The last show I saw was "Listening Glass" inside a recreated police station where we had to wear ear pieces to hear the police interrogation of a murder suspect .....and we could also hear the schizo voices in his head. I was mesmerized by the actors layered and three dimensional characters. They even had a kitchen "break room" with donuts and a mug shot room- I couldn't help it I took a picture like a convict. It was even encouraged! Each show I have seen does what theatre now a days needs to do- attract new and bigger audiences to the world it is attempting to create. Each show has been built around the central story of each individual script and attention to detail in the set design and writing is amazing! I hear Seattle Immersive just leased its new space for their big production of Romeo and Juliet and has opted for adding more women to the casting of the piece which I absolutely applaud. The actors are all high quality and respected in the community and the service component to each show gets better and better. I loved the craft cocktails for Dump Site and am stoked to see what food and drink they come up with next. This is a group of very driven, talented and intelligent theatre artists who really are headed towards taking over the Seattle theatre world. I would be so lucky to work or develop a show with them. My wife and I went to Harvest and had a blast, everyone in our group applauded at the end and seemed really impressed. I hate to see the low reviews because it doesn't represent, I think, the overall consensus. It's not long - but the actors and cohesive story is unlike anything I've seen in over twenty years of going to haunted events. Give in to the experience and it will reward you. We went to "Harvest" with high hopes and it started out quite nicely. The lounge area is tastefully decorated, they have some drinks, we basically started to get in the mood of it. Then, one at a time, the actors started to come in and mingle with the crowd. They had nice costumes and seemed to be really be into the play. Now, once we got inside things started to get creepy (not in a good way) and quite uncomfortable. The engineering of the whole place is just not there, too small and crowded for such an audience. Basically wherever we went there were tons of people on small corridors, separated by some white fabric. We literally had to push through to get to "rooms" that were able to hold no more than 2-3 people at a time. And the actors! Most of them were yelling hysterically NOT to follow them, to get out of there and the likes. I mean, I got the script with "the doctor" and his little experiment, but there was literally no magic, no 1:1s, no build-up of fear, nothing! And to top it off, it was over in less than 20 minutes!! This show had the potential and all the ingredients for a good play. Unfortunately, it's just a shot of cheap, watered down vodka not worthy of the time and money! read more

Though I do have an update, the 11:30 show I was supposed to go to (and bought 2 tickets for) was canceled. I had to reschedule and was told I would receive a refund for one ticket as my friend could no longer make it. I have not yet received a refund and my follow up emails are being ignored. Original Review: A weird uncomfortable end to the evening. The event was fun and unique but at the end after everyone exited and some parties had walked away while others like mine hung out talking about it we got quite the shock. The doctor ran out screaming that whoever talked about touching one of the actors was not f***** welcome back. Though obviously no one should have made that comment, it was very unprofessional and uncomfortable for the rest of us who had no idea what comment had been made and all of a sudden everyone who left was getting screamed at. Update: The actress did write a thoughtful reply so i'd like to give her some credit at least :) Just not the place itself read more

The bar area is very impressive but once you see invited into the doctors "mansion" it quickly goes down hill. Lack of energy from cast, poor script, and less than mediocre props. Very disappointed. This was very awkward and uncomfortable. Most of the rooms were random and did not add to the plot. There was one room with just shoes in it and nothing else. The drinks were way to expensive for what you you got. The actors in the waiting room were awkward to say the least. If you want a scare this is not worth your money. In the end, I just felt bad for plastic being wasted, I really hope they recycle. read more

The Seattle Immersive Theatre was one of the most interesting experiences I've had in Seattle. I had a group of 3 and we went here for their "Harvest" show and it was frightening and exciting. Although a lot of the "estate" was white tented halls, the room settings really made you feel as though you were in a haunted doctors estate. The actors did a fantastic job. My only problem was the length of the entire experience. After staying in the lounge for 10 minutes, you're given 15 minutes to explore the estate before the entire thing comes together with a close to 5 minute finale. It was such an interesting experience but I feel like it could have been a little longer. That being said I look forward to their next show and I may bring more of my friends! read more

I was totally disappointed, I felt myself being bored quite often through their "immerse experience". The whole thing was quite boring actually. This review is for Harvest. Seriously, what in the world did just happened. We just went to this adult "hunted house" experience at the Seattle Immersive Theatre. We were all very excited. The bar area was nice, we got introduced to some characters and that was great, but once we got inside the hunted mansion it was a joke. It was super short, not scary at all. It's a "choose your own path" kinda thing, which didn't work because there weren't enough actors. We went to as many places as we could, but it was all dead ends with stupid props... We encountered 1 decent scene, but the doctor asked us to leave... When they made us exit and shut the back door, everyone was like "what did just happen?". Many of us (if not all of us) stood there waiting wondering if that was the whole thing... My wife gets scared with almost anything, and she was the most disappointed of all of us. What a unique experience! We went to the interactive Halloween show "Harvest" and and we were interacting with some truly creepy scenarios. None of the actors actually have contact with you (without permission), but they definitely found a ways to push us to some chilling bounds. The experience was about a half hour long, in which everyone gets to experience something a little different. The staff and crew were super cool and you could tell they loved what they do. There is no better use of your time or money in Seattle; the production staff and actors of Seattle Immersive Theatre are remarkably dedicated to their craft, and never fail to create a one-of-a-kind experience. This is not a traditional theatrical event, where you sit quietly and watch a play unfold. Instead, you walk around, talk to the actors (who are always impeccably in-character), order a themed-cocktail, look at and touch the props and scenery- you are a PART of the story that's unfolding. If you want to sit back and let it unfold, you can! But the real joy is getting invested in the story, chatting with the characters, and really letting yourself become immersed in the experience. Seattle Immersive Theatre is everything you think it's going to be and more. Try it! read more

This review is for the Harvest haunted house. I do think I'd like to give them another chance for one of their regular productions. But for now, I don't feel like it was worth the price and had so much potential to be better. The haunted house itself was good, I really liked the ability to be able to explore and the sets were good. However, we didn't even get enough time to explore the whole place before it was suddenly over. 20 minutes. I got our tickets on Groupon so didn't pay regular price, and was glad. I felt bad for people who paid the full price. It felt like a story was just starting and then suddenly an actor with a (fake) gun came in to "save the day" and told everyone to run and then we were shoved out a garage door into the rain. The end. Once we were all kicked out, everyone looked at each other and said, "is that it??? that can't be it." Everyone felt cheated out of their money. This could have been really good. They should do twice the amount of time and half the shows, and then it might be worth it. If they do the haunted house next year I'll wait and read reviews before checking it out again, and only with another Groupon special. Disappointing. read more

Was pretty disappointed with Harvest. Purchased the VIP on Groupon and it wasn't worth it, even for the discounted price. Short, disorganized, the attractions were lacking. I would relate it to the house on your block that put in an effort on Halloween, but you wouldn't pay to see it... The VIP "desserts" included some hostess chocolate covered donut holes x4, Costco brownie bites x2, Seattle gourmet chocolates x4, powdered cookie bites x4, candy corn, then small glass of sparkling wine. Romeo + Juliet was top notch. The traditional theatre pales in comparison to the immersive experience that this production offers. Two thumbs up for enthralling the audience into a parallel universe filled love, despair, betrayal, revenge, solitude and friendship. read more

This is specifically about Seattle Immersive Theater's "Harvest." I think the actors have great talent and I would consider seeing one of their other productions. "Harvest," however, is advertised as a frightening experience. They make you sign a waver and you hear the bouncer talk about, "If you're scared, don't run. Because that's dangerous." They give you the usual spiel you hear at any good haunted house about how you shouldn't touch or abuse the actors even if you get really scared. Throughout all of this lead-up you start to believe that this will be a frightening experience. While you're still waiting to get in, one actor comes out acting all creepy but selling you $5 flavored whisky shots telling you that they are urine samples from "volunteers." You're then led into a lounge that has subtle symbology painted on the walls and servers dressed up and acting like they're straight out of an adult version of The Addams Family. Some of them serve you drinks and all of them are acting parts to creep you out. I thought this was wonderful. After about 15 minutes, a man comes out of a door muttering about how we shouldn't celebrate Halloween. The actors ask him about not having a ticket and they drag him off to a back room. Then a young lady (an actor pretending to be one of the group) is taken by some of the actors all the time protesting that she didn't volunteer for anything. Next, a boy and girl walk out made up to look like ghosts. They stare at everybody and most of the actors pretend not to see them. Through this whole introduction you start to think this will be some great, scary immersive performance. The entire group is led into a central room surrounded by plastic-sheet walls (If you've ever seen Dexter you can imagine what this might look like.) It all falls apart after that. Your are told to explore the various hallways and rooms. There are some staged scenes but nothing truly frightening. After about 15 minutes you are told to gather in the central room and a scene plays out ending with the audience "rescued" and led out onto the street. Performance over. The beginning was awesome. The rest, dull. Don't attend "Harvest" by the Seattle Immersive Theater. Find another haunted house. read more

Harvest was a big disappointment. Way too short, everything was very rushed, lasted less than 20 minutes.

I got out of my car at 6:55, and the show was over and I was back in it by 7:23. I'm not exaggerating. Some of the show (Harvest) was scary and fun, some good ideas. But a 20-minute long show is just too short. I thought it was a prelude to a longer show, but it was just over. How about make part of the maze go into another room, and have an additional event happen there. It's got potential! read more

After I discovered Seattle Immersive with their production of Dump Site, I knew I could never go back to traditional theatre. Their more traditionally-scripted shows let you wander the set, & the more interactive shows allow you to interact with the cast & absorb the story in a non-linear way.
