"Longer than some of you have been alive," as our host and master of ceremonies reminded us last night. Yeah, if only. Now, when I say "cool companies," I am most definitely not talking about the auditorium here. Evidently, "HVAC Installer" is not a role that gets credited in the program at most smaller companies, so they never cast for it. Now, I get it. That's a toweringly massive expense for a small independent theater troupe. But, yeah, it was pretty warm and sultry in here on an August evening last night. But that's not what matters. What matters is the cool vibe they have set up, and how that feeds into the chances for artistic success. You walk up a couple flights of stairs clearly hammered together by capable volunteers, and find your way into a space that has done just enough to pull it all together: 100 or so seats in an intimate auditorium, exactly two seats in two very intimate unisex bathrooms, a highboy table to serve as the box office, and, most importantly, a large and welcoming bar. The prices on beer, wine, cocktails, and candy are very reasonable. The service is charming at every turn. Most importantly, the programming on the boards is adventuresome and ambitious. The Strange Misadventures of Patty, last night, was a very uneven play mounted with great enthusiasm and invention by the company. Marianna de Fazio was fantastic in the lead. Looking forward to seeing more productions here in the future.

I felt close to Naomi while sitting on the ground floor. One of the guides said there's merch available within the theatre, but it was too dark and I couldn't really locate where they sold the merch. I wish they were a little more clear on the instruction, because of that.

I haven't really tried parking at the venue, instead opting to walk half a mile from the nearest Amazon garage (and since I was coming on weekends/ weekdays after hours, it's free!), but there is a paid garage that's pretty close by. Personally haven't really used the concessions stand (and find it expensive like most of these kinds of places), but I did notice they were kind of long :) They also sell merch! to support the Seattle Rep. I've sat in the far back corners (cheaper/est seats) and the show was still enjoyable! In case you wanted to visit but was worried about nosebleeds, the balcony seats really aren't bad at all. I watched The Play That Went Wrong and I have to admit that the balcony/far seats had a much better view of the whole stage and could capture more of the silly side stuff than when I watched it on the ground floor at a closer seat.

I toured Fremont Abbey in September 2025, loved it, and booked it for our wedding that same week. A…read moreyear later, I spent the final weeks before our wedding trying and failing to get anyone there to talk to me. Starting six weeks out, I was the one handling the venue. I emailed asking how to pay our balance and to confirm our plan for the wedding day. When nobody answered, I called their main line several times and couldn't leave a message because the voicemail box was full. I tracked down more Abbey email addresses from their website and added them to the thread. I paid the full balance anyway, hoping that would get someone's attention. It didn't. Twelve days after my first question, I was still writing to ask about the same early start. It was very stressful as all of our vendors were waiting to confirm the logistics. We ended up scrambling to find and book a new venue four weeks before our wedding. When we asked for a refund, the Abbey's position was that the contract only reserved the date, so answering our questions was never really their job. They kept our full payment. The date was never re-rented, and the day before our wedding, they offered us $250. I would recommend using a different venue.

A Very Die Hard Christmas -- Seattle Public Theater…read more For 33 straight years, my sister (WCP) and I have watched Die Hard and Die Hard 2 every December. A few years ago, a friend introduced me to this parody play -- and now it's officially part of my holiday tradition. I come back year-over-year because each production is different, clever, and full of new surprises. This year's version was one of the best yet: Upgraded set pieces, including a tall wall with TWO vents and working doors Smartly updated jokes and swapped-out 80s references Fresh additions to the villain list (shoutout to Huey Lewis & The News and Vidal Sassoon) And a perfect recreation of the iconic vent scene where McClane mutters: "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..." followed by "Now I know what a TV dinner feels like." This was my 3rd time, my friend Mary R's "don't ask how many," and my sister's very first time. The show was hilarious and high-energy -- but honestly, the best part was watching WCP react to it for the first time. Pure holiday magic. Seattle Public Theater nails the humor, nostalgia, and chaotic joy of Die Hard while giving audiences something new every December. If you love the movie, love parody, or just want a holiday show that's totally different from the usual lineup, go see this. Highly recommended. Yippee-Ki-Yay, Seattle.
