In May of 2025 my husband and I were fortunate enough to get an opportunity to join Seattle Dive Tours trip to God's Pocket resort on Hurst Island in British Columbia. Until our arrival we hadn't met any of the DST team. The owner Scott and a few other members of the shop joined us on the trip along with other PNW divers. We felt welcomed and supported during our adventure and we highly recommend Seattle Dive tours for your travel or training needs. I had wanted to dive at God's Pocket (GP) for several years and was happy to find a spot on Seattle Dive Tours May trip. From my first interaction with Scott and his Team I found them to be warm, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They provided all the necessary background and planning information so I felt prepared and ready. The GP team was fantastic also. The accommodations are rustic but comfortable. The food was phenomenal. Truly an exceptional chef. I would say I almost enjoyed the topside experience as much as the diving. The location felt special in the fact that it was remote and you hardly saw any other boats or people. We saw whales, eagles, otters and sea wolves (which was particularly special). I wore my trilaminate dry suit, a 10 mm hood, dry gloves, a Fourth Element Halo AR jumpsuit with a heated vest and was comfortable. I will say I loved the elevator on the boat! I enjoyed the diving but will say as an older diver, seeing the macro life pointed out by the excellent dive guide, Xuanni, was a bit challenging. I would probably recommend a magnifying glass of some type if up-close vision is an issue. But the macro life is plentiful and very unique. When I was new to the Seattle dive scene, it felt pretty dominated by guys--and not always in the most welcoming way. I had a bad experience with an instructor at another shop, and Seattle Dive Tours was the first place where I actually felt welcome and respected. Since then, I've done several tours and classes with them, a liveaboard trip, and have two more liveaboards planned with my partner. Every experience has been well-run and thoughtful. The team is professional, safety-focused, and clearly cares about supporting women divers and protecting the environment. I debated posting this because the reviews for this shop seem great, but I think it's important. After multiple times out with them I'm sorry to say I cannot recommend Seattle Dive Tours. The folks who work there are really nice, but they are overshadowed by the owner who was arrogant and condescending to them right in front of customers. One of the girls seemed visibly upset. This is a 10-star review. I'm a 54-year-old woman who has always, always wanted to scuba dive, and finally got my scuba certification in Puget Sound with Seattle Dive Tours in November 2023. I chose SDT because of the small class sizes without really knowing how critically important this is. For the two pool days, there were just two of us with the instructor, who carefully and systematically worked us through the skills. Totally professional and expert, and also warm and funny and empathetic. Bottomless patience for questions; attention to detail and laser focus on safety. I ended up having to reschedule my open water dives (covid) and SDT scheduled me on my own, one-on-one with the instructor and a dive master on shore with the heated tent (and dog!). Diving in the Sound in November is kind of a big deal if you've never done it before, and I was able to completely trust and rely on my instructor as I built up my confidence and skills. (I can not imagine doing this in a big class!) There's a hand signal in scuba for anxiety, and when I started feeling nervous, 30 feet under the water facing the drill of taking my mask off, I was able to communicate that I was nervous and have my instructor right there, supporting me through a pretty stressful thing. It was okay to be nervous, she wanted to know that I was nervous so she could help -- it was amazing. And then we were on the fourth dive and I was swimming 50 feet under water in a bait ball and it was transcendent. I had such a positive experience with SDT and plan to dive with them on local tours and internationally in the years to come. Highly, highly recommend. read more

They take all of the hassle and stress out of getting to and from the dive sight and then they create a safe and fun opportunity to dive in wonderful and rewarding ecosystem. My initial contacts with the company were courteous, thorough and prompt. On the day of my dives I was promptly picked up at my hotel on time by Maddi (she was early and waiting for me). She was a wealth of information, charming and professional. She also was the shore support personnel for the day at the dive site. That meant that all of my belongings were safe under her watch during my dives. My dive master was Thom. He was simply awesome. His attention to details regarding dive safety and pre-dive briefing was exemplary. In addition he listened to my specific requests and accommodated them where appropriate. I had very specific interest in Drysuit skills, buoyancy and trim and by the end of the day I felt like I had a better understanding of those techniques even if I wasn't able to master them immediately. He created a very very safe learning experience for me. My dive skills are so much better for this experience. One last note, while I was gearing up the owner of the company came to the dive site and introduced himself and took time to be sure that my needs were met and that I was pleased. Got dry suit certified. These guys went out of their way to make sure my teens (tall/thin) and I (full-figured) were properly fitted and safe in the water. The instructors and ground support were all very friendly and very patient! Looking forward to doing guided dives with them. read more

Very amazing experience. Scott was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. Maddi was just as great. The equipment provided was in great condition. They gave a good dive brief and even told us what to look out for in the site we dove. The night dive was just as great and the lights they provided were nice. The location in a cove off West Seattle was easy to access and a nice sea wall for easy equipment donning. We aren't used to having to use that heavy of wetsuits and lead so it was great to have an easy entry/exit. You do walk over river rock to get to the water, but it wasn't too bad. The only down sides were 1) they use a back inflated BC which is difficult for newer divers and 2) the gauges attach with a double sided clip, instead of a retractable lanyard making it harder to keep an eye on depth and air consumption. Overall, a great experience for my fiancé and I, who typically dive the Gulf of Mexico. read more

I went out with Seattle Dive tours to refresh my skills before going out to Monterrey for a trip. I was lucky enough to go out with Klayton as my guide and it an incredible experience. Klayton has a background in Marine Biology and was able to explain and describe the creatures and experiences at a completely different level. Not only did I come out of this with refreshed scuba skills, but with a different take on PNW diving. I would highly recommend going on a dive with them. Very professional, safe and thorough. Great with communication in both setting up the dive and on site and very responsive with getting back to you. It was nice diving in a more personal and intimate setting where you could work on some personal diving goals not being surrounded by a slew of other divers. I debated on if I wanted to share my experience seeing how everyone else enjoyed theirs, but since I'm relying on Yelp so much rn for my next dive in Hawaii, I felt readers should also hear the other side. My first booking with them for a night dive was cancelled b/c his divemaster called out sick .. that's unfortunate but maybe they should have a backup? We had to request days off specifically for this night weeks in advance and only a few hours before the dive I get this call. He did not offer any specials/discounts for a future booking and didn't seem that sorry about it. Okay, whatever I'm still booking with you since you seem to have pretty good reviews. His response time was fairly good through phone and email. My second booking started out great, they pick you up and drop you off within a certain range, I forget what. Richard met us at the spot, introduced himself, took a picture and said would see us after. We're all suited ready to go, we start out dive and something is wrong with our divemasters suit .. great. They have us go back up (without holding for a few minutes, just straight up) and he says he has to leave b/c something is leaking in his suit or something I don't remember. So now we're left with this other guy that only does this as a side hobby .. I don't recall if he was even a divemaster? Luckily there was only two of us. However this guy did not know how to lead a dive, he was going so fast to get to his destination and get this dive over with that we were unable to enjoy anything. This was both of our first Seattle dive, as we're both use to warmer tropical dives. At one point we lost the lead guy and we were just holding each other through this murky water, my friend started having trouble clearing so she let the guy know (after we caught up) that she was heading up. At this point, he's at a lost and she goes straight up, he doesn't help her or anything and of course I go after her without waiting. After my friend left the dive, he tried to convince me to go back down with him but I just didn't feel safe and declined. This all happened in less than thirty minutes, and Richard was still there to see that we came up way before our dive was over but he didn't even bother to offer an apology about his divemaster or even come over. No discounts refunds or anything. I don't think it was very safe for us to go with this guy at all and had a terrible feeling the whole time. If the actual divemaster had an issue, the dive should've ended or Richard should've stepped in his place. Gahh I was so upset, since we've planned this dive for a while (we were both worried about how cold diving in Seattle was) & so disappointed with this dive. This dive definitely ruined diving in WA for me .. it was the worst experience ever. Too bad I'm too scared to dive in Settle again. My friend swore off diving in WA after this experience and her mother is a scuba instructor. -_-x read more

I am a novice diver but had a little extra time in Seattle and wanted to go for a dive. No gear, no car, no buddy & no idea where to go I figures a little professional help was a good idea. These guys pick you up and drop off at the hotel. The equipment is good quality. Richard chose a spot that was filled with things to see and suited my dive ability. Even in West Seattle the diver site had good vis (25-30 ft) and we saw cools stuff like an Octopus. Good time if you want to experience what the pacific NW has to offer underwater. read more

I went diving today with Seattle Dive Tours and had a great time! They combine professionalism with the flexibility and friendliness of an individually owned operation. It was my first time diving in cold water - we dove at the alki seacrest park cove 2 and saw a harbor seal as we were gearing up and then many varieties of fish once underwater. Richard kept me posted of when he'd be there to pick me up. He had all of the equipment that I needed. The water condition was so cloudy that I could barely see the yellow tips of his fins, so I didn't even bother to do the second dive. Richard acted like he could have cared less whether I did the second dive or not, and proceeded to bill me fully for both dives, even though I used only one tank of the nitrox. To top it off, I got a nice sinus and ear infection from my experience. Perhaps others have enjoyed diving with this company, but my experience was rated as very poor. read more
