Manta rays at Tikehau atoll...I took this with the camera I bought from Underwater Sports
Chris H.

This has long been my preferred location of Underwater Sports, for a couple of reasons--first, their close proximity to the Edmonds Underwater Park, which is just about the best scuba diving spot in Central Puget Sound; second, the genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic service from the staff here. Their store is smaller and their inventory is thinner than some of the other locations, such as the store on Aurora in Seattle. This location seems to be targeted a bit more at the serious diver and stocks less of the inventory for, say, folks who are going to be taking a family trip somewhere to go snorkeling. They sell all of the basics, do tank fills, offer classes, and are more than willing to discuss the features of different products and answer any and all questions based on their real-world experiences I dropped in here recently to pick up some new fins and an underwater camera to take on an upcoming scuba trip to French Polynesia (!!!!!!!). Two different employees helped me in a totally complementary way and gave me the full low-down on the camera I purchased and how it compares to competing models and brands...that level of explanation was nice because the camera itself is an expensive investment and the trip is an even more expensive investment that I'm looking forward to being able to capture with my, erm, vast photography skills. As French Polynesia is not a Yelp-ing country, I guess I'll have to post a few scuba pics with this review upon returning in mid October! One last note: they sell laminated maps of the Edmonds Underwater Park, which come very much in handy since there is so much to see there.

I have an old prone Paddleboard I had tried for a few years to get some work done on. I could never…read moreget anyone they works on boards to even call me back. Surf Ballard took up the challenge and exceeded expectations. I had wanted to get 2 fin bays on the bottom replaced with larger fin bays and have one installed on top for a water bottle holder. The traction pad was really old and there had been some amateur patch work done right next to it. Also the nose and tail were pretty beat up and looked like some other amateur patch work had been done there. I had hoped they would be able to do all of this but they couldn't. They had the foresight and did due diligence by contacting the original shaper and found out that the fin bay installation would not have been supported by the internal structure. So disappointed they couldn't do it but stoked they found out before cutting in and destroying the board. They were able to take care of everything else and I heard the old traction pad was a b&tch to get off but they did a great job and for a great price. See before and after pictures.

If you're prepared to carry your own kayak rental by wheeling it from the site, across the street,…read moreacross the beach parking lot, down the steps and onto the beach and load yourself in, this place is for you. I'm not used to having to do everything myself. What is even more disturbing is that, they do mention as part of the directions, if you have difficulty carrying it, especially if you have back problems and such, no staff member can help you. There's also no staff at the beach to help in anyway. We got there at 440 pm which is ten min later than our appointment at 430, only to be told we had to wait for our kayaks to be cleaned after we struggled to find parking. For the time it took to wait for the kayaks to be cleaned, to the transport back and forth, if you want more time on the water for the buck, go somewhere else like Moss Bay or WAC or even Greenlake. If you are late in returning it, it is $1 per minute.

That said - the education was fantastic, the information was presented in multiple ways to make sure that everyone understood, there was no guilt in taking more time on specific things if needed, and once a true understanding was shown, they were happy to stop spending unnecessary time on it. It's clear that there is a STRONG inclination toward safety, and they do something abnormal by ensuring that it doesn't get in the way of also creating a welcoming atmosphere.

I'd been open water certified for over a decade, but I had never truly gotten into diving and previously only had a dozen or so dives under my belt. Kaitlin was extremely thorough; she made sure I understood not only what I should be doing but also the why. She provided important constructive feedback after dives to make sure I continued to build my skills and gained confidence. Pro tip - she also made sure I brought reef safe leave-in conditioner with me so that my long hair didn't turn to straw from all the salt water. By the end of the course and entire experience, I felt so much more comfortable underwater. As a bonus, with me on almost every dive were multiple Argonaut instructors: Fred, Erika, Nik, and Nidhi. Everyone was kind and helpful, made sure I adopted best practices while having fun. I cannot recommend Argonaut Diving enough. I don't believe I would have experienced the same high level education with any other instructor group.

Annie is patient, professional and extremely knowledgeable about the sport! She taught me things I never learned, and the one-on-one experience allowed her to personalize the training specifically to me. The most helpful skills she went over (that were never taught in my open ocean course under a different dive master) were perfecting neutral buoyancy and how to weight properly. I had been taught to wear way too much weight! She keeps things simple, intuitive and allows you to relax and just have fun. I know she has a passion for sharing the experience of breathing underwater with anyone and everyone, and this passion exudes from every pore. I also went on a dive trip that Annie coordinated, and it was so much fun! The trip was well planned, and stocked full of extra lessons between dives about diving, photography, travel, marine life... you name it! This was a four day trip and she really made the most of the time she had with us. I could tell Annie just loves to teach, and she has so much knowledge to share. I am not a professional photographer, but her tips even helped me take great underwater photos with my point and shoot camera. I think she knows just about anything and everything you would ever want to know concerning diving, traveling and more! She has been all over the world diving, and she is just inspirational to be around because she is all about achieving your dreams! Well thanks to Annie, I HAVE achieved my dreams and I am now working full time in a career that includes diving. I could not have made it as far as I have without her. Annie is one of my most valued mentors, and I encourage anyone considering learning to dive or furthering their dive experience to do it through Annie!! I would definitely love to go on more adventures with her!

A friend told us about this camp and we mulled it over with our son. He wanted to go so he could meet people and NOT be bored all summer. We signed him up for 1/2 week and HE LOVED IT! We were able to secure another week, a month or so later, he could not wait to go back! He had so many great experiences to share with us and is completely hooked on this camp! The entire staff were so friendly and welcoming, they made his experience one to remember! Since the summer camp, he also signed up for the Scuba Camp (same location) and finished with his Advanced Certification in Dry Suit Diving. He has made a lot of lifetime friends at this camp! Super job to Annie and her entire Camp Staff, you guys ROCK!!!!!! We'll be back!!!!
