This place was perfect for my seafood diet. See food, eat it. Stumbled upon this restaurant while strolling down the pier with my family looking for something to eat and it was inviting us for a taste! I had the crab and prawn tostadas (which is basically like a bruschetta with avocado, crab and prawn) for starters and then an eye fillet (which was halal!) for the main course! The tostadas were fairly good and I quite liked the cold taste despite the weather. The steak was done medium well, although I may recommend it to be done Medium or medium rare combined with the berry pepper sauce. Unfortunately, the steak had no sides and the portions are fairly small so I wouldn't call this place a bang for the buck but still worth a visit, if not for the beautiful views but even the patio and hustle and bustle of the pier! The staff although extremely friendly seemed a little rushed, and forgot small things such as water, or extra sides when we asked for them (even one of our main courses actually) even though it didn't seem like a particularly busy day. read more

I was a little torn between 3 and 4 stars for the Searock. The location is amazing, the atmosphere nice and relaxed and the menu has a nice mix of dishes. We also had good service and the food was high-quality. However, I did feel a little disappointed. The dishes were each just a little different to make them interesting and they came out really well presented. The meat was very tender and cooked just right, but the flavours were all a little bland. Maybe I just prefer more punch, but although each item was quite good, I couldn't get excited about them. Overall I had a nice meal with great view and easy walking distance to the Opera House where we were seeing a show, but I left feeling a little under-whelmed. read more

Review based on dinner on 12 Oct 2014. Location is everything. The view, the patio, the people watching. Today I am going to gush girlishly about a much ignored part of the cow. The rump. And from the rump, the rump steak. Strangely, you don't see this cut in a lot of menus. Searock grill serves the steak with a side of sauce. You can add side dishes too. I ordered my rump steak rare, with mushroom sauce on the side and a side-dish of creamed spinach. Look at pics I posted! Service was ok, not very attentive, but I have no complaints. Where do you go for Valentine's Day dinner? Paris, I guess. But in lieu of that fantasy, we settled for chowing down at the Quay. Aware that this is tourist trap 101, where prices are inflated beyond absurd and everything is an add on, we nonetheless threw caution to the wind and landed our work weary butts at Searock. Even under crappy grey skies the view was to die for. The bridge. The water. The passing parade of people. And as an added bonus, some huge cruise ship tooting madly and blasting off to who knows where, right before our very eyes. You could hardly conjure up a more romantic setting. As for the food, well, we loved our creamy mushrooms share plate. I have made this dish often myself but never with this depth of colour in the sauce. Our only gripe was why go so stingy on the bread, thus denying us the opportunity to mop up all those delicious juices? Oh, that's right, you are meant to pay for extra bread. That never happens in Paris. Our mains, kangaroo and steak, were passable. My Spanish red wine by the glass was just this side of battery acid. One of the waiters was really attentive but as often happens in Sydney, we had a chorus line of punters turning up at our table. That caused confusion over water that never arrived and a round of drinks we never ordered but mostly, grossly depersonalised the experience. Absolutely amazing location, but a little pricey. Everything in Australia compared to the U.S. is a little pricey, but this place is a little more so (probably because of its proximity to the Opera House). You should sit outside and face the water so you can see everyone pass by. It is the perfect place for people watching. I got the truffle oil, mushroom, and asparagus mac and cheese and oh my gosh is it good. It didn't look like a lot when it came out, but I could not finish. It was very rich and I loved it. The asparagus was a great touch. My sister got the pork belly and received a huge hunk. I have never seen that much pork belly before. It was very tender and delicious. If you are in the Circuluar Quay area, this is a place you should try if you have the money. read more

I had only one night in Sydney and I did not choose the right place for dinner. The pre fix $36 fish and chips was just mediocre at best. The fish was nothing special and an extra 9 dollar salad was really small. I would have done better in lots of other places oh well next trip. The hostesses were both very friendly but the table service was terrible. We waited a bit after having been seated when the server walked up, zero greeting, and asked, "are you ready?" This was a definite contrast to the warm service we have received at the host stand, not too mention all over Australia. They could have easily sold me two more cocktails in the time we were waiting for our food, but nobody bothered to check in. Two tiny glasses of water were also drained quickly during our meal with no carafe or offer to replenish. We eventually had to flag down someone else to get our check. Inattentive would be a generous summary of the service. Three stars because the food was good; the seafood was fresh and the portions were decent. Kudos to the kitchen, at least. Definitely a touristy place to enjoy the harbor. We stopped by for a quick snack and drink to watch the buskers. We had had the (chunky, expensive, but decent) calamari and some wine and tea while listening to the musicians before they were forced to move. Americans exploring the harbor area and looking for some kangaroo to enjoy we found ourselves here. The view is amazing especially on a summer day (during November which is weird to us Americans). We were seated outside at a table of four. Service was quick and attentive. A multitude of beverages are available including Hennessy which is kind of hard to come by. I ordered the kangaroo filet which had amazing flavor. The sauce was exquisite in taste and the steak very tender and soft. Medium rare was perfect. Around 40 Aus bucks you won't be disappointed with the service or the amazing view. Also the seagulls do tend to hang around but for the most part are friendly and shooed away easily and adds the ambiance of the harbor. I will surely be back again! read more

Godawful service. Asked for water about three times and did not get it until about 30 minutes later. The waitresses and waiters ignored us many times and were rude when we asked to send back a drink. Stopped here for lunch about 2 pm its a nice place sitting on the Circular Quay side of the harbour. The staff were nice and very professional. The meal came out quickly and was very nice. We had some oysters kilpatrick as a side and main meals of fish n chips. They were both great and being a hot day a glass of beer topped it off nicely. The place is very popular and had a good turn over of customer. The views across the harbour towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge was great and a good place to watch the boats and ferries come and go. read more

Great view of the cruise terminal and people watching and excellent food! After walking around the city for a few hours this morning we ate a delicious meal here. The raw oyster I tried was of excellent quality. The fish and chips were superb and the sangria is amazing. You must have one or more! I also found the green skin Chardonnay that I tried to be quite nice. (They have a nice selection of wines by the bottle and by the glass). The service was excellent and very polite as well! Actually, for a tourist driven restaurant, this was pretty good. We (the tourists) went with our friends (the locals) each having a different dish. Started first with tostada's and cheese balls around a chorizo mixture, both recommended as starters. Then we had lamb backstrap (8/10), kangaroo filet (8/10), scotch filet (6/10) and sole (6/10). First two were really very good, the filet lost out as it wasn't particularly tender (tbh, looked more like skirt or flank than filet), and the fish was a little oily. But service was good, and location is great. We stayed for ~3 hours so that perhaps indicates it's a decent place to sit. read more

New menu, New eats - utterly sublime. Searock is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney and recently they have updated the menu which is both a little disappointing but extremely exciting. Gone are my favourites such as the crab and saffron angel hair pasta, and the brilliant fish pie. In their place are some beaut new dishes, two of which I had the privilege to taste. Surf and Turf is fairly ubiquitous amongst grills, however Searock's take is a real standout. Aged prime Angus beef, a generous portion to boot, served with crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside chips complete with a fairy pot (thats Nigella-speak) béarnaise sauce. Steak is meltingly good, served as requested (rare of course!) and the prawns are large, generous, and grilled to perfection. Alongside this the pork belly - as far as I can remember, is new on the menu. The secret of a perfect crackle, with an unbelievably moist and truly - no I'm serious - believe me when I tell you - melt in your mouth, and I mean melt in your mouth pork--- well the secret wasn't given up but I had to ask.... in every way, truly a delight. Things with perhaps a little chaotic as this was the first day of the rollout of the new menu, so let's forgive the slight over-wait time, which was more than made up for by a seriously charming and delightful maitre d' and waitress. We loved Searock Grill so much we had dinner here twice. The first time we had a scrumptious roasted duck salad and seafood platter for two, which turned a lot of heads. The seafood was excellent and the fresh melon was a nice touch. Our second dinner was less extravagant but shows the versatility of this restaurant. The hubs had a Wagyu beef burger, which was cooked to perfection and I had Black Angus sirloin with yabbi tail. Very tasty food with the best views around. I come here every few weeks when in Sydney, and it has quickly become my go-to spot for lunch. I recommend their specialty - steak - of which they have a good variety, as well as some delicious fresh sides and sauces. The mushroom sauce in particular is good enough to lick it off the plate (or at least wipe it up with a chip). Reasonable value too, especially for the location. I usually go here for lunch, but went once for a late dinner and was just as impressed. Really it would be fine for either meal. read more

Our last night in Australia and the main reason we came here was so that my husband could try the kangaroo meat. He said he liked the roo but the seafood curry I ordered could've been better. The curry sauce was actually very good but the seafood was not. For the 5-6 mussels it came with, I only had 2.. the rest were only the shells. Pretty disappointing. And the shrimp was rubbery like it was about to go bad. I gave this place 2 stars because the non-alcoholic drinks were fun (we don't drink) and my husband liked the roo meat. Average and overpriced. But they do win the award for the fastest cooking and service of food. I swear that from me ordering grilled swordfish and also garlic bread, 5 minutes did not pass before the food arrived. I guess they have become quite good at ensuring an efficient turnover of tables to accommodate Circular Quay tourists. The grilled swordfish was well done but for $32 with two small fillets and a bit of salsa verde, it is well overpriced too. That said, the great view of the harbour makes it almost worth it. read more

Location is on the water near the opera house so of course the atmosphere is delightful. What I loved about this place is that it was not one of those tourist traps with nice atmospheres but terrible food and service. The service, and the food were both great! This place is located in the heart of circular quay. We had the oysters and a crab and prawn tostadas for entrees and had seafood curry as a main with a bottle of white wine. The oysters where well at you would expect, but the tostadas were delicious and so were the seafood curry. They are quick to get you seated, and take your order, but after that, service just falls right off the radar. The food was ok, was nothing special. We were seated outside with a beautiful view of the harbour to try their $17 lunch menu. We had the steak and chips with mushroom sauce. It was delicious and well worth the $19 in the heart of Sydney. The service was great by our waitress however we were 'told off' by another waiter for moving dirty glasses (from the previous occupants of the table) to another empty table so we were able to sit without other people dirty dishes in front of us. I mean who calls boiled chicken with no spices on a bed of soggy fries chicken tenders, and a lob of shredded chicken with mayonnaise and bread only on one side a chicken sandwich. We are all around 18 but he just looked at us and treated us like we were 2. He was rude and disrespectful. So we had asked for 3 separate checks and he didn't. Updated: Saved by the curry!! Oh my - the chicken curry with extra spice is the best curry we've ever had. Our server really is very nice, if a bit harried. Here is the rest of my original review that I'm still concerned about: We had a reservation for an outside table and the one they reserved for us was facing away from the wharf and looking at pillars. (WTF?) we asked for another table that had a 'reserved' sign on it and they were kind enough to move us once checking with the manager. Fast forward to our server, who did not offer the specials, and when I asked, he was unable to tell me what seafood was included in the seafood basket. We ordered some apps for sharing and sat and waited well over a half hour before my husband flagged down another server so we could order something.
