Sometimes when I'm trying to find "international" ingredients at Mariano's or something it's hit or miss. I found what I needed here and it was a fairly quick trip--I don't think I was in store more than 20 minutes. The store is small, and very very crowded. Aisles are about as wide as a single person facing forward. This isn't a place where you're going to get a shopping cart down an aisle. The prices are good. I got a head of Napa cabbage for 99 cents per pound, and when I go to my neighborhood store it's usually closer to $3-4 or more per pound. Since it was such a steal I added hot and sour soup to my menu for the week. There's a parking lot at this store. It's one way, and you must enter from Archer. DO NOT enter the wrong way or you won't be able to park--the spaces are angled and there's not enough space between the building and the fencing to turn yourself around. There are only about ten parking spaces here so I'm sure it gets filled pretty quick, but when I was here I was the only car parked here. There's street parking which can be pretty chancy, but maybe I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who was here on a busy Sunday in Chinatown.

J Freshmart is one of the stores you come to with the freshest seafood that I can buy. You can say they are a bit pricey but they have the seafood you want and not sold out. I needed 10 and they said if I got there early in the morning, there'd be more than enough. They were right! They had over 30 healthy, active lobsters to choose from. They gave me a free cooler with ice pack to take the lobsters. They charge $10.99 per lb for 2lbs and under so I always get between 1.75 to 2 lb lobsters. It's the perfect tail size to overall weight ratio to me. I've gone to a handful of places in Chinatown since moving to Pilsen almost 4 years ago. This is my third time coming here and it's honestly the best on quality. The great price is secondary when dealing with live seafood. Quality is the most important and Chicago Food Market delivers. I have found other great prepared foods at Mariano's that I enjoyed a lot, e.g,. succulent beef pot roast. It is fantastic that Mariano's have self checkout kiosks, which can help with convenience. There are also a significant number of Mariano's stores in Chicagoland.

The Tulum Special is a mix of nicely seasoned chicken, shrimp, cheese, rice, and fajita veggies. It also came with several corn tortillas wrapped in a vibrant colored fabric (which ngl, do they wash and reuse those?) that I could scoop the mix into. Pretty tasty (and also something I could make at home?). Portions were good - I took home about half and the leftovers made another two small meals. The limeade was freshly squeezed and nicely sour - really worth a try! My friend got veggie tacos and said they were watery. Overall good experience! I'll be be back for the fish folks rave about.
