    Rib roast
    Naiima D.

Found this wonderful rib roast for under $60 with my Mariano's card. The original price was over $100! Score! I never have had any run ins with the staff. Always professional. However, the lines here are Great America 1990's caliber.....Ridiculously long lines!!!!!! I don't know why they took the regular lines away and added kiosks?? That wasn't the brightness idea for a busy store like this one!!!! You guys really have some nice sales. I stay clear of you guys because the lines are usually ridiculously long. I went in Tuesday afternoon around lunchtime and it wasn't as busy as it normally is.

I have come here a couple times because they have mustard greens pretty consistently, which seem to be beer impossible to get at other Mariano's (at least the ones near me). But they have been so frustratingly slow when doing the pick-up. The first time I was here I had to wait about 10 minutes... not too bad, even though I was the only one waiting for a pickup order, except the phone rang so long it went to the main switchboard who redirected me back to the pre-order pickup line. This evening, I waited 18 minutes until I called them again about my order pickup because no one had brought it out. It rang about 10 times until it was picked up and immediately placed on hold (no greeting; I thought it was picked up automatically and placed on hold). I waited on hold for three full minutes (according to my phone) before I hung up and called back. Once again, it was picked up and immediately placed back on hold. Both times I called, the hold music ended and it started ringing, so I thought oh great maybe my call will be answered... no, it went back on hold again. I guess the good thing is that they don't charge you for your order when you place it online, so you can leave if they never show up (or answer their phone) and you won't be charged. The bad thing is that what I had ordered was what I had planned to make for dinner tonight, so I kinda wanted to get what I'd ordered. I'm writing this as I sit in the parking lot, so this is a live report. A minute ago the person just picked up and said he's going to bring it out because "the person on click list didn't know that's what that meant" so she didn't bring it out. That makes no sense to me... she works in the department that is specifically tasked with bringing out the groceries but didn't know what that meant? And he knew who it was when I called--he started to ask if it was (my surname) and then asked for it instead. So if he knew it had been sitting there for thirty minutes (that's his long it was from the first call when I told them I was here until I finally got to speak to someone and ask if my order would be brought out), why hadn't someone brought it out by that time or at least called me, since they have your phone number? I get that people are new and I try to be patient, but this was really ridiculous. In the end it took 34 minutes before my order showed up. Mustard greens probably aren't worth this so I don't know that I'm coming back to this location.

I like the grocery store for the most part but everytime I buy chicken I have to throw it out because of the color.

I like that there's such a great store on the south side! It isn't 'close' to me but it's under $10 to Uber/Lyft home from here. They have a great produce section with 'regular' AND organic food, on-site prepared guacamole that I have not had recently but apparently its a MUST, but you have to be prepared to wait in line. The cheese and booze areas always have samples, and I like the hot/cold bar selections. I am a little offput by how much fried food, esp chicken is available at THIS location versus others. I have not made a same day comparison but I wonder if selections differ by location. You can take the hot bar food home or eat it there at the WINE bar! There's a tv in the eating area too. They have many name brands as well as generic ones at good prices, plus a WALK IN beer cooler! I don't know what was here before, but I am impressed by the size, and that they didn't skimp because it's the South Side. Some Mariano's are 2 levels, but the store is inclusive enough, and has a very wide outside parking lot.

    Dirty, nasty frozen food section!

Just moved to the community from the north side and what a difference a few miles make. Customer service is horrible and the store is dirty. I guess I will be driving north for my groceries. What a shame! Do better people, please!

Absolute chaos. This was the self serve lane. It went down half the aisle when I got in line and by the time I was at the front it went all the way down the aisle. And my Rx that I called in three days ago wasn't ready.

This is what they are selling at this Marianos in Bronzeville! The sale by date is 2/23 and the pic is was taken 2/24.

Zero stars for the seafood department! I purchased seafood 2 consecutive days and was very disappointed ! I went to ask for an exchange and was told to Bring back the bad fish. Sane thing again with the lobster tail. I will not continue to buy bad food from Mariano's! They need to be conscious of the items being sold. It's a huge inconviemce to return food . I have empathy for the elderly with poor vision or smell. Mr. Manager at Mariano's should be more attentive to what's being sold to people in this community.

    Got my $$$ back!

Any new info on how King Drive Marianos looks? I'm wanting to return after not shopping here since March before the pandemic but some early covid-reviews left me very wary. I'd typically go on Mondays or Tuesdays before 9am, or weekends before 8am?

Not sure which location you are referring to but it's good to go. They are not as super busy, but you may want to bring sanitizer as they do not have staff that clean the carts/baskets immediately.

Is this store the same as Kroger? Or Frys?

No. It is note like a cross between Jewel's (variety of fresh items), Sam's Club (size) and Trader Joe's or Whole Foods (bistro-like options, salad bar, sandwiches, fresh cooked pizzas, etc.). Their fresh ok it's delicious! They also have several… Read more

Sometimes when I'm trying to find "international" ingredients at Mariano's or something it's hit or miss. I found what I needed here and it was a fairly quick trip--I don't think I was in store more than 20 minutes. The store is small, and very very crowded. Aisles are about as wide as a single person facing forward. This isn't a place where you're going to get a shopping cart down an aisle. The prices are good. I got a head of Napa cabbage for 99 cents per pound, and when I go to my neighborhood store it's usually closer to $3-4 or more per pound. Since it was such a steal I added hot and sour soup to my menu for the week. There's a parking lot at this store. It's one way, and you must enter from Archer. DO NOT enter the wrong way or you won't be able to park--the spaces are angled and there's not enough space between the building and the fencing to turn yourself around. There are only about ten parking spaces here so I'm sure it gets filled pretty quick, but when I was here I was the only car parked here. There's street parking which can be pretty chancy, but maybe I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who was here on a busy Sunday in Chinatown.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here.
