    Fish, tuna salad, and "yams".

The young lady at the front counter was standoffish. I smiled and said good evening, no response just a cold stare. I placed my order and went to my car while I waited. I was told "your food right there" as she pointed to a bag. I said thanks and headed home. Not only was I disappointed by the service, my food was mediocre. My yams looked like brown stew chicken. The texture was inconsistent. I doubt if I will be back.

By far the best restaurant we dined in during our Poconos vacation. Walking in, we quickly realized…read morewe were in a hot spot because the place was busy for a Tuesday night in September. Despite not having a reservation, we were able to be seated. But I do suggest planning ahead and reserving a table. Especially if you visit during high season. Anyhow, the service was excellent. Our server, Sam was extremely attentive. She explained the menu to you and shared some recommendations. We started out with a Caesar salad to share and knew right then that the servings would be ample! The kitchen was kind enough to split the salad for us between two plates and I'd have thought just half was shareable. But lucky us, plenty to indulge. We absolutely LOVED the dressing but found it a slight tad heavy handed. If we make it back, we'd definitely ask for dressing on the side. But nonetheless we appreciated the authentic Caesar dressing complete with anchovy paste. For entrees we had the penne vodka with sausage and shrimp 360. Both plates were big enough to feed an army and made for nice left overs. But make no mistake, both were delicious! Hit it out of the park, delicious! And beautiful al denté pasta. This meal really hit the spot. Even though we were completely stuffed, we managed to find room for homemade pumpkin cheesecake! I don't say this lightly, but it was hands down the best slice of cheesecake I've ever had. We couldn't stop raving about out it! This is a great restaurant to visit when visiting the Poconos. The setting was elegant in an understated way while being incredibly cozy! I think it would be great for larger groups but also intimate enough for couples.

Basso Cucina Italiana is an Italian restaurant and wine bar that opened in Cresco, Pennsylvania in…read moreJuly 2010. It was founded by members of the Pipolo family, including Bill Jr. and his wife Kim. The Pipolo family, including father Bill Sr. and mother Fabiana, had moved to the Poconos area from the Bronx, New York in 1984. Bill Sr. had a construction business which sons Bill Jr. and Peter worked in after graduating from high school. Bill Jr. first had some experience in the hospitality business when he owned the Calico Kitchen in Canadensis. When a location formerly home to Harrison's Tavern became available, the Pipolo family acquired it with the intention of turning it into an authentic Italian restaurant. The whole building was completely redesigned to resembled a trattoria in an Italian mountain village. Basso became a full Pipolo family endeavor. Even the grandchildren can be seen greeting guests and bussing tables from time to time. Bill Jr. and Peter later purchased the former Jagermeister German restaurant down the street and turned it into the PourHouse Neighborhood Bar & Grille after a renovation. My family and I visited Basso for dinner on a recent trip to the Poconos. We had previously visited the Pipolos' other restaurant, The PourHouse, and were excited to try their take on authentic Italian fare. The interior was nice and cozy. After looking over the menu, my wife and I decided to start out with some cocktails. I had the "Limoncello Spritzer" while she had the "Peach Berry Pink Sangria". Both were very refreshing! For our entrees, I had the "Pork Chop Di Parma" (juicy 12-oz. pork chop topped with prosciutto and red wine demi-glaze served over risotto), my wife had the "Cherry Red Shrimp" (sautéed shrimp with garlic, cherry tomatoes in a fresh basil butter sauce over linguine), our older son had "Tortelloni with a Pink Sauce", and our younger son had "Baked Ziti". Although the wait for the food was a little long, it was well worth it because everything was to die for! Our server was also very friendly and helpful. It's also worth noting that parking is very limited, so definitely try to stop in on the early side. We had an excellent experience at Basso and give them our seal of approval!

I took a pic of the sushi boat but had only a bite. It was fine. The presentation is something else. I had the sashimi. The rice was sticky and well-seasoned. Perfect bite after a fish. The fish wasn't too fishy. Tasted fresh for the most part. Certainly, not the highest quality fish out there. We're in the poconos here though. The variety of my meal was nice with a few different types of fish. It was pricier. $23 for the meal. Value was alright. Might return

Since I was here for lunch, I got the Hibachi Lunch Combination which was primarily picking two choices (protein) so I ended up getting steak and chicken. It came with fried rice and a salad too but I forgot to take pictures of it. I also ordered gyoza as my appetizer as I knew I was starving. The food came out quickly, it might have been that way because it was empty when I came in. The server was attentive too and it was just overall a pleasant experience. The hibachi steak is kind of tough, they cooked it a bit more well but I didn't mind it. The chicken is okay too but the sauce is a bit too salty. I did like the gyoza, it's perfectly cooked and I could probably eat 10 of those if I wanted to. For a quick eat, it does the job. I don't really have much to say other than check this place out!

Our pickup window was 30-40 minutes after our order. It was ready 15 minutes after that. The salad is not a good value at $13. And they forgot the peanut dressing which made the salad essentially valueless since we're traveling. The Pad Thai was the least attractive Pad Thai I've had in years. It was all pale color. No pops of green from onions or fresh herbs. Barely any crushed peanuts, and what was there was bellow average. And it was way spicier than it should have been given our 2 out of 10 spice request. It should have been fairly mild. The person who ordered the Pad Thai couldn't even eat it. I tried it. It was probably a 6 or 7 for most people. It tasted good btw. My son's Crispy Pork Basil Stir Fry tasted fine. But at $19, the serving size was smaller than it should have been. It was the least full entree takeout container from a Thai restaurant I can remember. My wonton noodle soup was generally good. The broth had good flavor. The pork was what you'd expect. The wontons were at best average though. We made this order through their online service. They add a convenience fee. And you're asked to leave a tip in advance. We left a 20% tip. The service and experience ended up being sub-standard. It makes me re-think my position on tipping in advance for pickup. 2 Stars
