This place was ridiculously packed and I could see why the key place to sit is on a small balcony outside in the back with a spectacular view of the bay and the sailboats, but seating was extremely limited when you go in you have to make your way to align to place your order Starbucks style. I ordered Café Olay and a fresh croissant. There is tables inside, but the best view is on the balcony. There's also sofa sit and wait comfortably for your order to be called my order up. I found my way back to the front of the café, and sat outside on the outside tables with views to the road, it was still very pretty because the area is quaint and nicely decorated place and a tasty pastry place gets packed

Love this coffee shop! Such a nice place to chat, work or ruminate. Food is also amazing and people who work here are just the sweetest. I'm afraid of what will happen in the summer when the tourists discover it but they do deserve the attention. Added some pics of the menu, but try the pastries too!

I've attempted to visit more than once and it is always closed. Too bad, it looks like a really nice and inviting place.

Though the food was mostly good and the space was nice, the…read moremenu was rather limiting, the dishes had flaws, and the service was a bit off with regard to timing. I had a Black Manhattan cocktail, supposedly differing from an ordinary Manhattan by use of a different kind of bitters (Amaro) and "filthy cherries." These seemed like basic good quality maraschinos to me (3); nothing "filthy" about them. Nevertheless it was good, fruity, and ample strength. The appetizer selection was small and heavy on bread-based items. (No free table bread was available - grrrr.) Most didn't appeal but the Roasted Garlic did, served with bread (2 kinds: a toasted crostini and a fresh crusty sourdough). The garlic was a whole head, sliced open for easy access and presented on a very hot plate, sweet and mellow from long slow roasting, and served with a choice of cheeses (molten blue, brie, whipped feta, or chèvre) - I chose chèvre and it was very good and a generous portion. A very simple dish not often encountered in restaurants. In retrospect this was the best part of the meal. I felt a little rushed at times and impatient at other times. It took a very long time to get the appetizer so I had nothing to dilute the effects of the strong cocktail. But then more than once I was asked about my entree before I was ready; once when ordering the appetizer and another time soon after I received it and hadn't made up my mind yet. I held my ground and told them I wasn't quite ready, and they accepted that and I took my time eating. There was an eclectic selection of wines by the glass. I had an interesting rosé from Slovenia. My entree was a roasted fish filet (halibut I think? It's no longer listed on the menu) served over a tomato-based sauce. This sauce was richly scented and complex and the plate was attractively garnished with micro greens. But the fish was on the small side and the flavor was monotonous - no discernible browning on the top. The other component, probably an herby cucumber-yogurt sauce resembling raita, which should have been a cool complement to the hot tomato broth, instead was melting unattractively and dispersing into it. Perhaps most disappointing, there was nothing else to this dish. It needed a starch or something (rice, boiled potatoes, or even more of those very good breads from the appetizer - wish I had saved some.) So it's good I got the appetizer first, or I would have left rather hungry. Desserts were also very limited and most didn't appeal. I decided on the Clafouti, which is a baked tart, thicker and heavier than flan, with fruit (black cherries) It was way too hot, didn't have enough fruit, and ice cream would be a far better choice than the amorphous blob of whipped cream it was served with. I should have skipped dessert. It was so boring. As for ambience: it's a crowded, noisy place but in a pleasing way. Very small, and I had reserved one of the 6 seats at the bar (I was dining solo). It's whimsically decorated, like with the grape-covered nude statue holding a candle. There was attractive artwork on the walls, some of which I believe was for sale. I did detect smoky odors coming from the kitchen that other reviewers have noted but I consider that a positive thing, not a negative. So come here if you wish. Check it out and form your own opinion. As for me, I wasn't sufficiently impressed and wouldn't return.

The reviews and mission at Freya's appeared promising, so I decided to give it a go, especially since the product is made in-house. Unfortunately for our group of four, there was only one flavor of gelato left an hour before closing time (and good for Freya's). My spouse went for that gelato--coffee--while the rest of our group went the sorbetto route. There were four flavors remaining: strawberry, passionfruit, guava, and lime + jasmine. I had tastes of everything, including the gelato. Sorbetto-wise, I was especially impressed with the strawberry, and the passionfruit was a close second. My only nit pick is that the guava was icier than the other three sorbettos, but the flavor was still punchy and refreshing. As for the gelato, it was European quality. Huzzah! I was so mad that I hadn't gone earlier in the day for more of a gelato selection. That taste of coffee really left a good impression. I'm thrilled to report that the folx at Freya's know what they're doing with their gelato and sorbettos. If you're snobby about your gelato, rest assure! You'll be really happy at Freya's.

You would struggle to find a cafe or restaurant with a better view, as this looks out over a harbor that is basically what you'd picture in your head for being in Maine. The menu included buckwheat crepes both sweet and savory and some gelato, so I indulged and got a crepe with gelato on the side. Even the sweet crepes use a buckwheat base, which I liked. The earthy flavor makes a useful contrast with the sweetness. Their house caramel sauce was buttery and toasty in flavor and combined well with bananas, so say nothing of the smooth stracciatella gelato I mixed with it. I couldn't have asked for much more.
