Not a place that I had on my radar, but I saw a sign for it on my drive down the coast and pulled over. You would struggle to find a cafe or restaurant with a better view, as this looks out over a harbor that is basically what you'd picture in your head for being in Maine. The menu included buckwheat crepes both sweet and savory and some gelato, so I indulged and got a crepe with gelato on the side. Even the sweet crepes use a buckwheat base, which I liked. The earthy flavor makes a useful contrast with the sweetness. Their house caramel sauce was buttery and toasty in flavor and combined well with bananas, so say nothing of the smooth stracciatella gelato I mixed with it. I get nervous when I hear about a gelato shop. Am I *really* going to get gelato? The kind I've fawned over in Europe? The reviews and mission at Freya's appeared promising, so I decided to give it a go, especially since the product is made in-house. Unfortunately for our group of four, there was only one flavor of gelato left an hour before closing time (and good for Freya's). My spouse went for that gelato--coffee--while the rest of our group went the sorbetto route. There were four flavors remaining: strawberry, passionfruit, guava, and lime + jasmine. I had tastes of everything, including the gelato. Sorbetto-wise, I was especially impressed with the strawberry, and the passionfruit was a close second. My only nit pick is that the guava was icier than the other three sorbettos, but the flavor was still punchy and refreshing. As for the gelato, it was European quality. Huzzah! I was so mad that I hadn't gone earlier in the day for more of a gelato selection. That taste of coffee really left a good impression. I'm thrilled to report that the folx at Freya's know what they're doing with their gelato and sorbettos. If you're snobby about your gelato, rest assure! You'll be really happy at Freya's. read more

We stopped at Freya's for the gelato, though they also offer crepes and wine. The inside is cozy and welcoming, and the outdoor patio overlooks the harbor. Great relaxing atmosphere. Very quaint little place that has charm and is cozy. I am from Brittany in France. the dish  " Croque Monsieur "  which is in the menu is not correctly named. What I was served is called in France and in Brittany " Galette de Sarrasin ". Sarrasin is rye. there is a difference between crêpes and galettes. Sauce béchamel is served with veal. Maine is the Brittany of the USA. Same climate and same beautiful coast line and villages. Fishermen, farmers, authentic beautiful old American architecture, granite stones and friendly, civilized people everywhere. read more

We shared a savory crepe. The Caprese with chicken was excellent. Very flavorful and delicious! Customer service was helpful and very good. High marks from a Celiac for knowledgeable staff and attention to safety. Seating inside and outside comfortable. We opted for take out because we weren't ready to eat yet. Soooo... our youngest (read as most spoiled haha) daughter is named Freya. So, when my wife heard about this ice cream shop with the same name, what choice did we have really? Well, the only choice was to hop in the car two days later and head almost two hours north for gelato! Now, this was our first trip to Rockport, so forgive me while I take a second to gush over how gorgeous the small town is. A gorgeous harbor filled with boats, amazing architecture overlooking said harbor, and amazing walking paths all seeming to lead right to the water. We immediately started looking at properties for sale on Zillow! I lay this out simply to mention that Freya's is positioned right in the perfect spot! See the pictures, but the view from the attached porch are breathtaking, and the building is steps from the walking paths. Not to mention the industrial brick building that I wouldn't be surprised to learn it served as a cannery at some point. Location, perfect. Food though? Equally amazing. Delicious choices, great variety, and the prices are downright cheap for what you receive, and where you get to enjoy your gelato (or crepe, I will definitely be back for a crepe!!). And the owner? She was amazing. I feel bad I didn't get her name, but she was so accommodating, kind, and definitely hard working (she was doing it all herself!). She was excited about our Freya being there to enjoy her Freya's gelato. It was truly a magical moment, one our daughter will remember forever. And with how often we intend to be back, the memories at Freya's are just getting started. I cannot say enough about this place. If perfection exists in this world, it is at Freya's. Today my husband and I took our yearly day trip to mid coast Maine. After shopping, eating and beaching through Belfast, Lincolnville and Camden, we decided to venture just a little further south to Rockport, which we had never really explored before. I had been looking for a niche unique ice cream place online and Freya's stood out to me immediately, both the pictures and the reviews! And wow, this place is a gem! Freya's is tucked into a quaint corner of Rockport. We walked in and the gentleman behind the counter was very sweet and helpful, answering questions and offering many samples! The atmosphere is lovely, especially the jazz music wafting out onto the quiet street when we walked in, not to mention the bubble machine sending bubbles around the windows outside. The decor and seating are also very nice. We ended up getting the chai chocolate spice gelato and a citrus (can't remember if orange or lemon) rosemary sorbetto. The gelato was creamy; the chocolate was rich but not cloyingly sweet, and the chai spice warmed the back of my mouth nicely. The sorbetto was so refreshing; the flavors were so well balanced and complex. I also tried the blueberry basil sorbetto and that was delicious as well. The price was very reasonable. But what was truly priceless was the gorgeous view on their balcony seating area, it overlooks the marina. It felt like we were in a slice of life movie. With couples walking their dogs on the road beneath us, boats bobbing in the harbor, and don't even make me mention the sea breeze. The gelato and sorbetto are the best I have ever had.
