We stopped at Freya's for the gelato, though they also offer crepes and wine. The inside is cozy and welcoming, and the outdoor patio overlooks the harbor. We were greeted promptly and our questions answered. I ordered rooibos chai and salted caramel, and my partner had salted caramel. The gelato was good, and the outdoor patio was fabulous.

Soooo... our youngest (read as most spoiled haha) daughter is named Freya. So, when my wife heard about this ice cream shop with the same name, what choice did we have really? Well, the only choice was to hop in the car two days later and head almost two hours north for gelato! Now, this was our first trip to Rockport, so forgive me while I take a second to gush over how gorgeous the small town is. A gorgeous harbor filled with boats, amazing architecture overlooking said harbor, and amazing walking paths all seeming to lead right to the water. We immediately started looking at properties for sale on Zillow! I lay this out simply to mention that Freya's is positioned right in the perfect spot! See the pictures, but the view from the attached porch are breathtaking, and the building is steps from the walking paths. Not to mention the industrial brick building that I wouldn't be surprised to learn it served as a cannery at some point. Location, perfect. Food though? Equally amazing. Delicious choices, great variety, and the prices are downright cheap for what you receive, and where you get to enjoy your gelato (or crepe, I will definitely be back for a crepe!!). And the owner? She was amazing. I feel bad I didn't get her name, but she was so accommodating, kind, and definitely hard working (she was doing it all herself!). She was excited about our Freya being there to enjoy her Freya's gelato. It was truly a magical moment, one our daughter will remember forever. And with how often we intend to be back, the memories at Freya's are just getting started. I cannot say enough about this place. If perfection exists in this world, it is at Freya's. You cannot convince me otherwise.

    Delicious cold brew gelato

I've had gelato all through Italy and this is the first place in America that has rivaled the Italian gelato shops in quality. I got the cold brew gelato and it was SPECTACULAR. The guy behind the counter explained the process, which sounded very convoluted and impressive, but to be honest I wasn't listening because I was too distracted by how good the cold brew gelato was!

    Gelato and sorbetto

Today my husband and I took our yearly day trip to mid coast Maine. After shopping, eating and beaching through Belfast, Lincolnville and Camden, we decided to venture just a little further south to Rockport, which we had never really explored before. I had been looking for a niche unique ice cream place online and Freya's stood out to me immediately, both the pictures and the reviews! And wow, this place is a gem! Freya's is tucked into a quaint corner of Rockport. We walked in and the gentleman behind the counter was very sweet and helpful, answering questions and offering many samples! The atmosphere is lovely, especially the jazz music wafting out onto the quiet street when we walked in, not to mention the bubble machine sending bubbles around the windows outside. The decor and seating are also very nice. We ended up getting the chai chocolate spice gelato and a citrus (can't remember if orange or lemon) rosemary sorbetto. The gelato was creamy; the chocolate was rich but not cloyingly sweet, and the chai spice warmed the back of my mouth nicely. The sorbetto was so refreshing; the flavors were so well balanced and complex. I also tried the blueberry basil sorbetto and that was delicious as well. The price was very reasonable. But what was truly priceless was the gorgeous view on their balcony seating area, it overlooks the marina. It felt like we were in a slice of life movie. With couples walking their dogs on the road beneath us, boats bobbing in the harbor, and don't even make me mention the sea breeze. The gelato and sorbetto are the best I have ever had. I will be back. I definitely recommend!

The halibut, I must declare, was nothing short of a revelation, a luminous masterpiece of the sea, cooked with such preternatural precision that it seemed to hover between succulence and sublimity, each flake surrendering its briny sweetness with the tenderness of a whispered secret. Our attendants moved with the balletic grace of practiced synchrony..swift, perceptive, almost prescient in their attentiveness, anticipating our every unspoken desire before it could even crystallize into thought. Truly, a dining experience that transcended the merely excellent and ascended into the rarified air of the unforgettable.

Devon and Hannah are the couple that own and run the place - he's the ridiculously talented chef and waiter (or chef that delivers and describes the food) and she's front of house (greeter, waitress, sommelier, and seems genuinely happy! The food...so so so so good and unique. If this place doesn't win major awards I'd be shocked. There are maybe 10 tables so even when "busy" it's never chaotic (well I've only been once and it wasn't too crowded but Hannah said as much and she seems very honest!) The food and service is very much the appeal and they absolutely nailed it. Pointedly they did not spend a lot on interior, yet it's simple, tasteful, and appealing. They don't open every night, just Thu Fri Sat - which is why they still love it - their words but my wholehearted agreement. It's not inexpensive but when someone has clearly mastered their crafts like these two, I am onboard every time. Also, you know when you love a place but after going a bunch of times you get kinda tired of the menu? Well these two change menu every three weeks! Camden has a bunch of restaurants that cater to the tourists - they are fine and some are even good but not special at all. But this place, what can I say, I fell in love and will be back often! The creative food and wine menus are small, the plates are medium, and the love is large. If you are a couple it's best to just order the entire menu and share it. After couple glasses of a natural orange wine (bottles are pricey) the bill was $170. We are so happy they're open in winter and filled up on a Saturday so reservations a must. Loved all the dishes despite being slightly over salted. Menu changes frequently and can't wait to return.
