While visiting Edisto Beach, SC, we stumbled upon SeaCow Eatery by during a quick Google search for a good diner--and I'm so glad we did! When we arrived, we immediately noticed how quaint and homey the spot felt. It definitely has that locally owned charm (not franchised), which I absolutely love when I'm traveling. It just feels more personal and authentic. We were greeted by a hostess with the warmest smile--her name escapes me, but she was incredibly kind and welcoming. She gave us a helpful heads-up that since it was Sunday and we arrived a little after 11:30 AM, breakfast would only be served until noon. She also explained that once noon hits, they finish all breakfast orders before starting lunch--so lunch doesn't really begin until closer to 1:00 PM. Just a little pro tip if you're planning your visit (and this only applies on Sundays)! Now let's talk service--our server, Julius, was awesome! Friendly, attentive, and just overall great energy. I also loved seeing the owner present and working just as hard as her staff--she was out there helping serve food, which really speaks to the care and pride behind the business. The only downside was the wait time for our food--it took a bit longer than expected, especially for breakfast items. BUT... once that food hit the table? Totally worth it. Everything was delicious! I had the home fries sautéed with onions and peppers, topped with cheese, along with grilled shrimp and boiled eggs (which are surprisingly hard to find when eating breakfast out, so I was excited!). My friends enjoyed their meals just as much. The pricing was very reasonable, and the portion sizes were solid--definitely felt like we got great value for our money. Overall, we had a great experience. Good food, great service, fair pricing, and that cozy, local vibe you hope to find on vacation. I'd definitely recommend checking out SeaCow Eatery if you're in the area! 4/5 stars (just knocking off a point for the wait time)

A casual local eatery with southern charm! There is a small dining room and a screened in porch area. Our server was friendly and accommodating. We all got fried shrimp with crisp beer battered french fries and creamy coleslaw. They have a good variety of beers and wines. And oh my, the pies! I enjoyed the peanut butter pie and we shared a piece of carrot cake. I heard they had a coconut cream pie and a chocolate pie but those were already sold out. We'll definitely be back!

Laid back island breakfast favorite. Good solid service and food. Their logo is just too cute and I ended up getting one of their hats. Nice memories from Edisto. My husband really liked the biscuit & gravy & pancakes. I just had a side of crispy corn beef hash with a coffee. Recommend this place!

Oyster and Shrimp Platter, greens are A+++++

If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a place to grab some food. Do yourself a favor and skip Coots. SeaCow will deliver. Great atmosphere, great service and great food, total opposite of Coots.... I went with the Fried Steak. Lightly battered and chicken fried steak in excellent mushroom brown gravy. The batter fries are to die for, I ordered a double side of them. Wifey went with the Fisherman's Platter - oyster and shrimp. Both meals came with a very tasty hot roll, yummy...... Collard greens and Fried Okra. Excellent! I hate greens, but her sides were awesome. Shrimp and oysters did not disappoint, but honestly, they are typical of the area. Toss up what is better for seafood and both equally great - Whaley's vs. SeaCow, both A++++.

We live at Edisto and try to support the local restaurants but we find it is difficult with the high prices and quality of the food. Went to SeaCow recently and decided to try their grilled grouper. We were so disappointed. The piece was very small and thin and it didn't have much flavor. For $23 I would have expected a little more. The mango salsa was tasty though and saved the dish. On the plus side their pies never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and remember the locals.

Started with crab cake, which was a good size and perfectly prepared with a nice aioli sauce and a few greens. Followed with the house salad - fresh ingredients and standard dressing. Wrapped things up the Flounder Sandwich. Ordered it blackened. Nice slab of fish on perfect bun with lettuce, tomato and onions. Delicious fish. Serving staff were very friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cozy like you would expect from island life. Couple of odd things happened that were new for us. We were charged for water, $1.50 per glass. Additionally, we were charged extra for blackened seasoning, $1.50 on the fish and finally we were charged a 3% premium for credit card use. This was our first meal in the island so didn't understand if these fees were usual and customary or specific to this establishment. Highly recommend without any reservations.

Ordering was quick and easy with no issues at all. When we arrived, we waited a short bit at the bar while the food was being prepared, but nothing too bad. Overall, the food was pretty good! The crab bisque was delicious and definitely one of my favorite things we ordered. The crab cake was tasty too, although it was a little more breaded than I personally prefer. The fried stuffed bacon-wrapped shrimp was probably the biggest disappointment of the meal, but not terrible. My friend enjoyed her food she ordered, though I can't remember the exact name of it. Service was decent -- nothing over-the-top amazing, but the staff wasn't rude either, so I'll take it! Overall, I'd give Whaley's about a 3.5 to 4-star experience. I'd probably go back, and if you're in the area looking for a convenient seafood spot near the beach, I'd say give them a shot!

(This is considered the early side of Spring Break.) Adair was our server, and was prompt and friendly! He was all we could have wanted in an efficient server. I was disappointed that the only water they served was bottled. Therefore, Pinot Grigio it was!!!! We received drink orders promptly and Adair asked for our food orders. We were an easy group. Two shrimp baskets with raw fries (which to the unaware are house made chips), a Fried flounder basket with regular fries, and two kids cheeseburgers, with regular fries. The seafood orders also come with slaw and hush puppies. Later, Adair told us they were out of hush puppies. Adair went the extra mile and brought me a bottled water due to HIS perceived wait for our food. The fried shrimp were "gulf size" and perfectly cooked! Breading was light and not overdone! The founder was tender and flaky, the cole slaw was not of the "food processor" variety, and the fries were good, (crinkle cut). This was a very good "family trip" restaurant stop. We generally cook every night, this restaurant needed to provide the "shrimp" cravings of two of us! We will return on future visits!!! This is a place that has been around since 1948. Just know the venue is in an old gas station which suited me!!!! My daddy was a Gulf oil dealer in the 60's-1980's. Enjoy!

I got a cup of the she crab soup which was good but the same time there were cold pieces of crab. Not sure that's how it's supposed to be served but it was good. We ordered the fried shrimp platter dinner. The two of us shared it and I was surprised that it's quite a bit of a large order and the shrimp were a good size. Other places I've gone in the island have been tiny shrimps. Typically, I am known to eat a portion made for two so I was impressed with the size of the shrimp and that meal filled up the two of us. I recommend giving it a try.

We were down at the beach picking up seashells and decided we would try this place. You have to walk through a giant gift shop to get to the actual restaurant. We bought some stuff in the gift shop and used Apple Pay. Then we went on into Coots. It's a typical beach bar but very small. We sat down and waited for a while and no one ever came to take our order so my friend got up and asked the bartender if we could get some menus. Then she said she would have a waiter come over and take our order. A guy finally came and we ordered waters with lemon. He came back with two bottles of food lion brand water and little cups with ice. My friend asked if they have tapwater and he said no they only do bottled water and she asked how much it was and he said $2.50. We were not happy about that. Finally I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and also jalapeño poppers for an appetizer and my friend ordered the shrimp plate with fries. They brought out her food in a little square fry box and you couldn't even see the shrimp. It looked like it was only fries. The shrimp were so tiny it was pitiful. My friend was very disappointed. My food was better. The buffalo chicken wrap was enormous, and it was delicious. I am very picky about fries and their fries were amazing and the jalapeño poppers were too. I ended up splitting my buffalo chicken wrap with my friend because her shrimp were just gross and they were so tiny. It was ridiculous. Then our waiter disappeared forever and we were waiting there for over 30 minutes to get our check. My friend went back to the bar and asked the bartender if we could get our check and they had to go find the waiter and then he finally came back to the table. Then we told him to split the check and we have Apple Pay. He said oh I don't know where you're from but we don't take tap to pay here. We said that's funny because we just used it in the gift shop that is literally part of the building!!! And we also just bought gas using tap to pay across the street! It was actually kind of embarrassing because we had to go to my car and then dig through all of our stuff to find enough cash to pay our bill because all we is tap to pay on our phones... Needless to say we will never be back.
