Bloody Mary

Had breakfast here today and unfortunately the service was so slow. Food came out 20 minutes after ordering. When the order did come there were items that were missed. My wife asked for avocado in her omelette and there was none and a side of bacon my sister order we had to ask multiple times to receive. Food was good but service lackluster.

Very good breakfast food. Very quick service. Plenty of seating options and fun atmosphere. Would recommend this place for a good brunch option even if you're not staying at the hotel. I think the buffet is a little over priced, but the menu options are correctly priced and taste very good. We stayed at the hotel for 10 days and got breakfast every morning, the head chef and the manager came out and talked to us every morning to make sure we were okay. They were accommodating to allergies, and overall was very good experience.

Surprisingly good food! I was here for work and the company booked rooms at the hyatt. Sea Root is the only real restaurant on the Hyatt Regancy property, so it was either eat here or drive offsite to find somthing to eat. I went in with low expectations, since hotel food is usually not very good. Sea Root is an exception. Good portion, fresh, good quality ingredients. I went with seasonal green salad with a steak as the protein. The steak was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and probably about 4 or 5 oz. The price was on the higher side... I think I paid about 50 bucks for the dinner salad. The restaurant has nice, modern decor and was busy due to the golf course. The service was still prompt and friendly. Overall, this place changed my mind about hotel restaurants.

Sea Bass

This is a review for the bar area at the Sea Root. The ambience is bright an airy. They opened the restaurant portion so it's all just one big room now. On sunny days, sit outside by the firepits and enjoy a cocktail while watching the golfers ... Expect a lot of people watching. It's a dog-friendly lounge and since it's a hotel, children are here and sometimes loud. We were here on a Saturday evening to catch the live music. (Our friend is the vocalist). They don't do table service. You order at the bar and they bring your food and drinks out to you. That can be either good or bad. However, keep in mind, they have a full-service restaurant with the same menu. Our overall impression is we would come back, especially since we like live music. My companion was my mom. I wanted to give her a fun activity for Easter weekend. We wanted something a little special. So my mom had the steak and I had the Sea Bass. We weren't disappointed. My Sea Bass was flaky and paired well with the tomato sauce. The accompanying polenta was a little too salty but complemented the tomato sauce. The asparagus was fork tender and the finishing touch was a char grilled yellow pepper. My mom enjoyed her steak with pesto sauce and cauliflower-potato mash. She appreciated the generous pour of her Red Blend wine. I'd return with my mom and it would make a good spot for a girls night out, especially if you can snag a spot by the outdoor firepits. It's good for crowds because since it's an orde-at-the-bar type of place, people can order as much or as little as they want. Drawbacks: They leave the door wide open to the patio which makes it drafty so we sat near the indoor fireplace but couldn't see the musicians. Also, it would be good to have a real bar menu with more bar-type of appetizers and casual, shareable bites. But those are minor drawbacks. We're big on people watching, firepits, live music and generously pored wine glasses and this covers all of the above. Pizza and charcuterie are available for a quick stop in. Sit at the circular bar overlooking the whole room and have a glass of wine and let the traffice die down. Don't be misled by my review. If you want table service, they have a full-service restaurant area.

Steak and eggs

As a Hyatt globalist, breakfast is included during our stays and we ate at this restaurant twice during our stay! We had steak and eggs and breakfast burrito which were delicious. They also have continental breakfast as an option if you wanted a buffet. Kids under 5 are also free. Great options like cereal, fruits, hot food - eggs, sausage, waffles, you can also make fresh juice! Super fun! great service too!

FIG TOAST

Good drinks but that more the bar. Mixed bag for food in the restaurant. Nice ambiance and views to golf course. Service good overall with some exceptions. Starting with breakfast. The buffet when available was nice with a fresh fruit juice bar, pastries, fruit, hot food all for a reasonable price ($28). I've also been pleased with the avocado toast and steak eggs before. I'd definitely suggest it as a start of the day. However, our dinner selections were more limited. The fig toast that someone raved about was dry toast with prosciutto arugula and fig coulis-esque spread on the plate. Not much flavor for a seemingly well described plate. The guy beside us complained about his pasta dish and previous night meal, so we opted to figure some else out. Sorry but our waiter seemed new and didn't exude any confidence on how he handled their complaints. For drinks, I liked my Old Fashioned but my wife's Mule left much to be desired. I'd hope for a bit more consistency. YMMV.

We stayed at this Hyatt when visiting Monterey . They serve using higher grade products in their ingredients for each dish. Everything not only looks fresh but also tasted fresh too. For breakfast buffet (4 stars) , we were impressed by the make it yourself juice bar. Q there are a variety of fruits and veggies to choose from ( self serve) that one throws into the juicer .grapes, berries, celery, melons, carrots, kale, etc..., its very nice! From the breakfast menu, I chose their steak and eggs (5 stars). You get to choose how you like your eggs done. I loved their poached eggs done medium as requested. My hubby had the Strawberry French toast (3 1/2 stars) with fresh fruits on top. Service: 3 1/2 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Love the Sea Root. My wife and I visit Monterey each year for the CaliforniaRoots music festival. We are World of Hyatt members and we love to stay at the Hyatt of Monterey which is walking distance from the fairgrounds (festival) One big reason we choose this hotel is due to the Sea Root. They have great tasting breakfast, you can choose from buffet or off their menu. Both options are a great choice. Also a lot of the musical acts stay at this hotel or will come eat breakfast here so you may be dinning with the stars =) The service is phenomenal both during dinner and breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Both my wife and I cant wait to be back next year.

Bank charge

Service was bad but I left a tip anyway thinking maybe server was just having an off day. Paid for the bill and went on with my day. The next thing I know I check my bank account and the server left herself a 20% tip! I definitely did not leave a 20% tip I wanted to leave 0% tip!! They are literally stealing money and hoping you won't notice. When I called I spoke with Jason he said he was the manager and he was rude and acted like it wasn't a big deal, he would just "refund me the difference" that's not even the point anymore it's the fact that someone felt comfortable enough to do this and has probably done it to countless other people too so if you have been here in the past or plan on coming either bring cash or keep your receipt to double check. As you can see by the pictures I threw it out and had to go searching for it to confirm I wasn't losing my mind.

NY steak

Excellent dining experience! This restaurant has an open dining set up, located off the lobby of the Hayatt Regency Hotel. With an open kitchen-you're able to see the chefs at work... Very bright, lots of windows with views of the golf course and patios.... Very friendly and attentive service too! Everything we ordered was fantastic! The house Cabernet, from a local vineyard was amazing; We tried the calamari appetizer, cooked perfectly & served with a couple different tasty dipping sauces-a Diablo marinara sauce and a lemony aioli. We also tried the fig toast appetizer, yummy and creative! A light sweet toast with prosciutto, feta cheese, arugula & fig... SO TASTY! Our entrees were also very good!! My husband ordered the NY Steak served with an incredible Chimichurri sauce, perfectly roasted asparagus & fingerling potatoes. While the steak was tasty and cooked medium as requested, the meat was not as tender as it should've been and a bit overpriced at $44. My roasted beet root risotto was so creative and flavorful. With the choice to add chicken, ahi tuna or shrimp, I chose the shrimp which was very good but seriously overpriced at an additional $12 for 3 shrimps that were pretty small. The location of this restaurant truly is Surprisingly beautiful, practically in the lobby of the hotel, the one area that seems to have been updated! Unlike the other buildings (room accommodations) very old buildings, outdated & smelly. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience and I definitely recommend trying this restaurant!

Came to the bar for Happy Hour. Not too much of a HH for pricing...but the drinks were very good and the Tapas Trio was tasty.

It's the hour of the night…read more.. Came here to get drinks after dinner and didn't expect this place to have affordable drinks judging from the interior. Every cocktail was around ($11-$15). It's got that whimsical and jazzy bar feel with low lit seating inside, and a fire pit with lots of tables outside --- perfect for larger groups. Their menu is fun to look at and still have the classic drinks you'd get at the bar like Moscow mule and old fashioned, but with their own twist. I opted for the Modern Love with mezcal, amaro, passionfruit, and lime. Let's just say I was knocked outttt after sipping that...quite strong with no lime to be found but it was still a bit fruity. My boyfriend got the Cali Old Fashioned, which you can definitely taste the whiskey and bitters (with a whisper of citrus --- heavy on the whisper). Really cool spot and I'd love to come back! Had a fun time.

The drink menu changes from time to time but the craftsmanship remains.

Visited this restaurant for Mother's day. Ironically, even though I have lived in the area for…read moredecades somehow I missed this one. Saw some reviews and photos on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As my reviews tend to be lengthy let me summarize up front and add the details for those more interested. Service was 5 star, Ambience 4.5 star, and for Food I want to go higher but for reasons I will go into I must stay with 4 star. And because I think the food is the most relevant measurement I chose 4 star. The experience overall was great. We reserved indoor as Monterey can get a bit chilly but once on ground and with outdoor fireplaces and heaters it was the better option. And with a 3.5 yo in tow the outdoor really was the better option. It gave her freedom of movement and the ability to be more of a noisy child than the indoor would permit. Our waitress was attentive and great, the seating by the fire was a bit hard but she brought out blankets that could add warmth or in our case cushion to make them less noticeable. We ordered basic pasta for our child and let me just say the portion would have fed two adult men. Nothing amazing but it was palatable and she enjoyed it. We ordered drinks to include one of their specialties and it was enjoyed. And we started off with an order of the oysters. They were fresh, well presented and offered multiple options to flavor the oysters. For main courses I selected the Hen House homemade pasta with mushrooms and saw you could add scallops for $17.00 and it sounded brilliant. The dish was flavorful, creamy and only surprising in that they delivered one stunning scallop on a side dish. Slightly confused I remarked, "ummm is this the $17 scallop". Which in retrospect I would note I really wanted to see the menu again because I sincerely believe they likely advertised it as a singular "Scallop" which leaves only myself to blame. In all honesty the scallop is probably the second best scallop I have had in my life (Libertine Social in Vegas is hands tied the absolutely best to date). But I digress... I enjoyed the dish, mourned the single scallop and cleaned my plate. We also ordered the Focaccia Bread and butter starter. Let me just say that I love bread, probably more than I should and fresh baked focaccia is at the top of my list. I am accustomed to the outside being a bit crispy but the inside being pure pillowy heaven. They appear to cut them in slices and then bake them or toast them slightly before service. Definitely not a fan of toast, or crunchy bread it was not a high point but again well presented and despite my preference I did eat it with my pasta. Lastly my partner had the Wagyu beef, the description sounded great and the presentation was there but I think there are moments that when you read a menu you envision the finished product and let's just say it felt diminished in my minds eye. Flavors aside it was well cooked and the sides tasted fine. I just felt like I heard that grating voice from the 80s or 90's..."where's the beef". Now I say all of that to provide my view on the overall experience but I would say they are definitely worth the experience but go in knowing it will be a bit pricey. And to be fair if it's beef you are looking for I recall seeing a massive 32ounce porterhouse on the menu. But the price matched its size. In the end it was a strong 4 star experience and "scallop" aside if 4.5 was an option I would probably give it. Just not a 5. Hope this helps and please take note of my photos as they convey my write up. To our waitress, you did great!

I stuck with a classic martini, but others in our party of five explored the cocktail menu and were impressed. The bartender was warm and welcoming and greeted us right away for our reservation. Unfortunately, the experience took an awkward turn at seating. We had requested a view and were about to be accommodated when another staff member (auburn hair) interrupted abruptly and loudly, insisting we not be seated up front due to other reservations. It was uncomfortable and felt unprofessional--especially in front of guests. As it turned out, she was our server. Throughout the evening, her demeanor didn't improve and felt out of step with the otherwise welcoming environment. Having spent over 25 years in the industry and as a restaurant owner, I know how important frontline staff are to the guest experience, and this simply didn't reflect the level this place is capable of. That said, this feels like the exception--not the norm. I've had pleasant experiences here before and will return, hopeful that this was just an off moment.
