Truffalo Wings
Sandy A.

Stopped in for my son's end of season football gathering so we didn't order much. We were in the back patio area of the restaurant, which was very laid back and such a chill vibe. They had screens casting a few different college football and light music in the background. My husband and I just got a small bite, the truffle wings were chef's kiss!! I would order more next time and have it as a meal. The sauce is a mixture of garlic, truffle and buffalo. Props to The creator, and please never take this off the menu. We also had the truffle Brussels sprouts (I forgot to take a picture) because I was too focused on cleaning the chicken off the bone.

Cheers!

Always a good time! High fives all around and a big win in OT! Thanks Sara for the excellent service! Thanks SD Taproom for the yummy pizza and tasty Spicy Bloody Mary. Well worth the drive no matter where you're located. Be back soon! Go Lions!

Great beer and solid grub! Also a decent place to watch some football on Sundays! See you there? Stopped by twice over the past week, and I'll probably be back on Thursday. I'm currently loving the award winning PB Haze. It's a delicious, bright, slightly fruity, IPA that's perfect for Sunday football. Tossed back 3 of these ~7% ers and was feeling great. Jeff and Kayla took care of my needs, but the restaurant did appear a bit understaffed, as it took a little bit to get a beer. On the second trip, it was more PB Haze, followed by some tenders and truffle fries. While I thoroughly enjoyed the "real chicken" tenders, beautifully coated in panko bread crumbs, and the battered fries, it was the garlic aioli that stole the show. If I'm just ordering fries, I'd definitely get them with extra garlic aioli. Look at those beautiful chunks of what I'm almost certain was roasted garlic. Yummmbo! Oh, and don't forget your Pint Life Passport for that free beer! I'll be back. Thanks to the cast and crew!

SD Taproom is a local favorite that I hope never goes out of business. One of the last standing OG restaurants in the area. We came on a Trivia night (Monday) and it was pretty packed. We got a few beers and sat at the bar. The bartender was awesome and super attentive. Prices have stayed fair, it was about $8 for a beer. Love this spot!

Great Service, Cold beer, Delicious burger, and fries were soooooo good. This a Detroit Lions bar, great place to watch games. The place is really loud and busy but service is on point... never an empty cup and food comes out super quick. Can't wait to watch the Lions on Monday Night from the Taproom!!!

We stopped here for lunch on Easter and we absolutely loved it! It wasn't crowded, our waiter was super friendly and attentive and the had a great selection of beers. It's located a little further from from the beach, which I can appreciate because that area can get really busy. Now let's talk about the food... I can definitely see why their mac & cheese is award-winning. It was so creamy and had bacon bits inside of it. It was honestly the best mac & cheese I've ever had. I also ordered the Smashburger. That was on point as well. I will definitely be back to try more stuff on the menu.

Jalapeño poppers and chips and guacamole to start with Happy Hops on tap. The attention to detail by the server was amazing and non stop. Sports bar pub with big screens around the place.

It's very disappointing trying to find a bar that serves beers other than IPAs. This bar has a few listed, but they are out of most and have subbed in other beers. Asked for a ref or amber - no. OK, a pilsner please. So bartender recommended a Damnation - yuck. I'm asking for lagers or pilsners and he gives me a 7.8% "golden" Belgian - banana and pear, blah blah. Yuck. Bummer

They didn't offer me anything for the "misunderstanding" or false advertising...
Amor C.

Our server Jon was really cool this is totally not on him . But if you're are like me and love your bottomless mimosas . Don't go. Or I guess call before hand ? Event brite promoted it so I drove to this location and they said they're not doing it because there's an event. So if there's an event theirs no mimosas ? Idk kinda weird explanation.

My friends and I trekked out to SD TapRoom at the suggestion of a bartender at Bare Back Grill. On the map, it didn't look that far, but walking to it said otherwise! There weren't a ton of breweries we could walk to as a group between Bare Back (close to our vrbo) and SD TapRoom, so we made it our first stop in the night. We arrived at the tail end of dinner and rush hour so there wasn't a wait to get sat. SD definitely has an extensive list (mainly their own), with lots of award-winning options. It was like a kid at Christmas! What sets them apart based on my history with breweries are their flights. Holy moly. 5 oz pours a piece?! I got in over my head ordering 6 of them. I definitely did not have capacity to finish them all.. but also a couple weren't exactly what I was hoping them to be. All of us ordered flights of varying combinations. Winners (for me) - Bee The Buzz, Citra Starburst, Double Strawberry Cheesecake. Non-winners - Woods Strong Ale.. it definitely is strong! Got some mixed vibes from the staff. Not sure if it was because it was towards the end of the night or they genuinely just did not want to talk shop. One of them was super nice and we talked shop a bit, which made the end of our visit pleasant. Definitely worthwhile to come back next time and try more brews, maybe a meal and watch football (cue the Detroit Lions gear all over the bar).

Lions new meet up spot
Jennifer H.

Was meeting a friend here after watching some football a block away and I happened to walk to the new meet up spot for the Detroit Lions. They use to meet at The Dog nearby but now meet here! It was super cool to see this piñata event happening where you can buy a raffle ticket to hopefully hit at the piñata filled with candy, alcohol and even gift cards. I got lucky and got a $25 gift card for the pizza spot and then one liquor shot. Inside I did have a beer and it was pretty fresh from the tap. I'd surely check it out and just be warned that it is a lions bar so it can be pack when they play. :)

Great happy hour specials. Food-we got Brussel sprouts and a pizza. Brussels was so tasty, pizza was good too however the veggies on the goat cheese pizza could be sautéed or cooked down more. We def took leftovers! Drinks-we got brut and kombucha. Both tasty and nice size pours. Service- shoutout to Kelly who took great care of us. There was young and older couples, families, and friends gathering. Nice crowd.

Nice decor
Rosa R.

My husband had this spot saved for a long time. So he spontaneously decided to go and try the food. We were so not disappointed! Service was excellent, food was delicious! And decor was just right! Beer was obviously as good as he thought. I don't really drink anymore but I did like the beer here. It's so good we are definitely coming back soon. Btw the cookies are to die for!

Everything we selected was really good. Wed got the Frito Pie ($12), Chicken thigh tenders ($7), and Tots ($7). The frito pie presentation was my second favorite part (after the bear glass drink), It came in a all-clad style bowl with the chip bag cut open inside, loaded with Texas-style chilli, melted nacho cheese, and shredded cheese. It was so good I even started adding tots in there too. The tots and Thigh tenders had the perfect crisp! They have sweet and sour chili sauce for dipping with the chicken which was fab! The retro decor made the place even better. I loved seeing the old Blockbuster VHS tapes and music cassettes displayed around the bar. My little eye also spot the Dallas Cowboys flag! Texas energy is definitely in the house. There's also a small arcade area in the back, and my eyes instantly lit up seeing PAC-Man. We didn't get to fully explore the game room because we were trying to make it to Ghirardelli Ice cream & Chocolate shop for dessert before they closed at midnight too. Thankfully everything worked out perfectly since our car was parked right in front of Ghirardelli. NO military discount was honored here even though the owner is a veteran, but overall I still had a really good experience and would definitely come back whenever I'm in the Gaslamp district in SD, Cali. (Oops posted it on a smoke shop in Texas. This review was meant to be shared here) Update: Response to owner: Joe V. That was the best response from any owner I have ever received!!! When I entered the restaurant around 7:00 PM, I was stopped and questioned extensively by security regarding my service animal. Rather than being asked the limited ADA-compliant questions permitted by law, the interaction became prolonged and uncomfortable while staff repeatedly attempted to determine whether my dog was a "real" service animal or simply an emotional support animal. I remained waiting at the entrance while this was repeatedly discussed back and forth. What made the situation especially humiliating was that another patron openly laughed at me during the interaction while walking outside for a cigarette. I later realized this same patron had her own dog inside the establishment in a stroller the entire time. Staff members appeared very familiar and comfortable with her, and multiple employees, including my waitress- referred to her as a "regular." Although her dog was eventually moved to the patio area, the contrast in how the situations were handled made me feel singled out, embarrassed, and unfairly scrutinized. I later spoke with management in hopes of resolving the matter respectfully. During that conversation, I was surprised and concerned to hear that neither management nor staff were familiar with psychiatric service animals or their protections under the ADA. Psychiatric service animals are legally recognized service animals when trained to perform disability-related tasks, and this lack of awareness was deeply concerning, especially in a city like San Diego with a large disabled and veteran community. I fully understand that businesses are allowed to ask limited ADA-compliant questions regarding service animals, and I also understand that many establishments have dealt with individuals falsely claiming pets as service animals. However, there is a significant difference between appropriately verifying a service animal and making a disabled customer feel publicly interrogated and humiliated. The overall handling of this interaction lacked professionalism, sensitivity, and basic understanding of ADA service animal protections. No customer should feel mocked, scrutinized, or publicly embarrassed simply for entering a restaurant with a legitimate service animal. I sincerely hope this situation can serve as an opportunity for additional ADA education and proper service animal training for staff moving forward so that other disabled guests do not experience similar treatment. I would appreciate being informed of any steps the restaurant intends to take regarding ADA compliance and staff training before I determine how I would like to proceed further. Thank you for your time and attention.

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite. One of the few crust I eat from end to end. It's casual, it's reliable, and it delivers every single time. We've been loyal to the slices so far, but the rolls and other menu items are calling our name--so safe to say, we'll be back soon with more "research" and another review.
