I was experiencing a hybrid malfunction with my 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Plug-In Hybrid. The hybrid battery is still fully functional. I have been able to drive the car on gas, but unable to use hybrid or EV mode. The issue was related to a loose/broken connection of the motor oil pump on the driver side of the vehicle, which affects power transmission from the motor and efficient circulation of the motor coolant. Will seemed very knowledgeable on hybrid maintenance, so I decided to let him work on the issue. He was able to replace the oil pump with a new one at a price cheaper than what was set by the Toyota dealership. This fixed the hybrid issue with my car. I was incredibly satisfied with my repair. I just referred a friend with a Gen 4 Prius to these guys after having them do two different projects on my Gen 2 Prius. That's when I realized I never wrote a review. These guys are serious, straight forward, specialized, but not overly curated. Direct quotes, consistent communication, quick turnaround on projects, no high pressure sales tactics, honest, hard working, reasonable, and some (most of) the guys who work there are cuties. 10s, 10s, 10s across the board. I also have some gay stickers and am pretty not closeted. Some spaces I worry about being myself (LGBTQIA+), but I can say that I have never felt the need to code switch or otherwise act a certain way when I come here. The owner is really awesome and informative. I needed my spark plugs switched and they quoted me 1.5 hours. I let them know I had a meeting in an hour so if it was longer than than, I would need to come back later much later. They got it done in 45 minutes and I was home for my meeting with time to spare. My Prius, Prudence "Prue" Prius, has about 185K miles on it and my goal is to (at least) put another 100K miles on her. I feel optimistic that I can do that with SD Hybrids in my corner, helping me with my regular maintenance needs and confident that if an emergency comes up, they will fairly and accurately diagnose the issue and quote me with reasonableness and professionalism. read more

These guys repaired smthn' on my Prius within' a few hours. Eventually I had to come back because my car died on me again but diagnosis said it was not related to the recent repair. Turns out with me waiting until my gas tank is on empty everytime before I filled it up was affecting my 12v battery. They could of easily taken me for a ride but instead told me to STOP letting the gas hit rock bottom before filling it up. Fantastic service and so fast! I had put off getting a new auxiliary battery for the last 3 months (thank you quarantine), and was just using a jump kit to move my beautiful Sasha, a 2008 Prius, as needed. So, maybe 2 times in 4 months. I know, bad owner, but I live downtown and with the parking tickets being on hold, I had no reason to drive after I was laid off. Anyhoo, I called yesterday and talked to Will very briefly who told me to simply stop by in the morning, so I did. I jumped little Sasha and headed out, arriving around 10am. By 1015, Sasha was good to go and after another few minutes checking out, we were back on the road for the first time since March 15th. I set my clock at 1020 at the gas station. I can't say enough about how fast and easy the service was. Best part? No lecture on treating my beloved car like absolute crap. My dad had his own auto repair shop for decades in Akron, OH, and would have been aghast at how poorly I've treated my little car during quarantine. He's passed on and I'll admit, I've been pretty lax at finding someone I could trust to work on my car without dad's guidance and approval, but I think that chore is handled, now. Sure, it was just a battery swap, but I based my choice on all of the reviews I had read and they were legit. I was treated promptly, fairly, and not made to feel like a total dumbsh*t. Long story longer I think I've found Sasha's fix it guy for the future. They also had lots of other hybrids there for sale and they looked sharp! I have had the engine replaced and the catalytic converter replaced here (car was burning oil for at least 6 years). Always a quick turnaround and I can vouch that these guys are honest. The other day I lent my Prius to a friend who drove it to empty. After parking the car, the vehicle flashed a hybrid system error and would not restart. Since the engine and catalytic converter had already failed, I figured the hybrid battery system went caput. So I called SD Hybrids with the intention of having it towed to their shop for a replacement. When I told them the backstory, they mentioned the vehicle's hybrid system may have been drained as the car was driven on empty, therefore running on 100% electric. They told me to add 5 gallons of gas and reset the battery by removing a connection on the car 12v battery. Viola! It was fixed. They saved me several thousands of dollars. It's cheaper and faster to swap it out than it is to rebuild your own motor. If was extremely cheaper than the dealership and it's a very impressive turn around time. After purchasing a used 2008 Prius off CraigsList with 190K miles, tons of warning lights came on shortly after the purchase. It was evident I had been taken advantage of and did not do my proper due diligence such as a pre-purchase inspection regarding the vehicle. Unfortunately, this created a lot of stress and anxiety for me as I needed a reliable commuter car for work during the week. Moving forward, I took it into a Toyota dealership to diagnose the Check Engine Lights and obtain an estimate. Here are the codes returned and estimate of repairs for parts/labor: 1. Invertor Pump Replacement - $600 2. Cylinder Misfire - Replace spark plugs & Ignition Coils ~$650 3. Catalytic Converter System - $2,000+ The car had been recently smogged, so I opted to decline the catalytic converter repairs. SD Hybrids performed Repairs #1 and #2 above PLUS an oil change for only $415 !! What a savings, and I was happy to support a local business. Will eased all of my concerns throughout the entire process and was very responsive and easy to communicate with. My son has a Prius and the car is wonderful and runs great. He had ran it out a gas a couple times this last time that that happened we added gas and all of the codes and lights went off like a Christmas tree, on the dash. Could not get the car started. I am a single mom with a 19-year-old son. He goes to San Diego State University so our funds are very low. I got a hold of Will and he had told me how to reset the codes my self, so my son and I tried, I couldn't get it to work so I had the car towed to the shop. Will had the car for maybe five minutes reset all the codes. Give me a call and said come get it. It's fine so when I got there he didn't charge me. I asked if I could at least tip him.
