They were very kind to me (I was a little nervous since it's been so long since I went to a range) and made me feel safe and assured. I went as a solo female, and would recommend other women to go "give it a shot" as well. The pros will help you from start to finish, and even the guys just there on the range who didn't work there were nice, too. I made new friends! Great selections at the shop, easy parking, straightforward no-fuss place. Great value for time and money on the ammo, rental & lane. If you also need gear and gadgets, backpacks, apparel, cleaning tools...they have it. Also- I did not try it but the bbq food truck smelled amazing and I will definitely be doing that next time. Big thank you and shout out to Page for the support out there today. I will definitely be coming back with friends and family.

The class was a great mix or ages and genders, and Vince's teaching style was both informative & easy to follow. We were able to handle about 6 different pistols in the classroom, which was incredibly helpful. As a petite woman w/ limited upper body strength, I struggled w/a few models, but Vince went above and beyond to teach me and other women specific techniques to make handling them much easier The range time was the highlight-practicing what we learned w/ one-to-one feedback from Vince was invaluable. He is clearly passionate about safety and making sure his students feel comfortable. If you're nervous about starting, Vince is the instructor you want to

Every time I'm in town, I carve out space for a lesson here. They don't just hand you a bow and send you to the range. They break it down--stance, breath, grip--without condescension or ego. From absolute zero, they had me loosing arrows with something resembling grace, and over time, they've built me into a halfway decent archer. That's not just instruction; that's craft. The gear side is no less impressive. Advice here isn't about upselling--it's about finding the bow, the arrows, the finger tabs that actually suit you. The staff talks from the heart, from decades of pulling strings and hitting targets, not from a sales script. And the vibe? Generous, patient, and real. You're not judged for being a beginner. You're not rushed. You're simply folded into the ritual of a practice older than most religions. For someone like me, who arrives a tourist and leaves a little bit better than before--that's gold. Robertson Archery isn't just a shop or a range. It's a reminder that in a city built on surface, you can still find depth. Come here. String a bow. Let the arrow fly.

Combat Paintball Park gives you that rush. The terrain? Unreal. We're talking rugged, obstacle-laden fields that make you feel like you've been dropped into a scene from a movie, but with more bright neon splatters. This wasn't just paintball--it was an experience. Every barrier and bunker felt like an invitation to play out your combat fantasies. First time for me, and it won't be the last. The staff? Absolute legends. They were calm, patient, and somehow made us noobs feel like seasoned veterans by the end of the day. Professional, but with the kind of laid-back charisma you want when you're holding a paintball gun. The staff goes over your eye orientation (whether right or left-eye dominant), provides you with an archery arm guard, and goes over the safety rules. They had multiple instructors who helped you orient yourself and your bow and arrows to shoot at the target. It felt like many directions, but as you go more rounds, your body and brain start to retain the information. I cheered when I finally hit the target! My only goal for the day, besides getting out of bed, was to hit the target! Maybe I didn't hit dead center, but an arrow (and even more arrows) made it onto the target! Yay! There is no good cell phone reception at the range where the public course is held, so if you're meeting anyone, try to make sure you decide where to meet beforehand. There is free parking on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. through a fence to your left, a little from when you enter the park. The public session costs $5, and you must sign a waiver. Bring cash, as, once again, you will probably have no cell service. Thank you to Kevin and the other instructors and staff who helped me patiently. I couldn't believe how quickly the two hours flew by. Everything was well-organized, and this is such an amazing weekly event that Conejo Valley Archers hosts. Thank you again!

Once we got there we immediately got told NOT to follow that path as it's very dangerous and "like walking through an active gun field". We were then directed to "go talk to a guy in the blue shirt" but as we are walking to him another man stops us and tells us to go into the trailer. Okay fine- then as we're walking to the trailer we are stopped yet again and told to go talk to a man in a brown shirt now! Fine. As we're walking the other guy is yelling "go to the trailer" omfg so we turn back towards the trailer and then again "No the guy in the brown shirt" ...... at this point i'm wondering what happened to the guy in the blue shirt that i allegedly needed to talk to. Anyways, I digress. So we get to the guy in the brown shirt to sign our waivers and he says that it's actually too late to sign the waivers because it was 10:25 and they stopped doing the waivers at 10:15 First of all, why couldn't anyone tell us that EARLIER and second of all, the website has no indication of this rule. Also the signage is terrible and if the path that we were sent down is so dangerous, why were we even able to go there?? There should be signs and closed gates not an inviting path that people are sent to go down and then get yelled at. Also I don't understand how everyone working there is so out of the loop with each other.

Woodley Park's archery range isn't just another community spot -- it's hallowed ground for archery in Southern California. Established in the mid-20th century, it became one of the premier training grounds for competitive archers, including those who've gone on to represent the U.S. in the Olympics and world tournaments. The range was home to early pioneers in modern archery and has long been supported by the Woodley Park Archers Club, a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to keeping the sport alive and accessible for everyone. Whether you're brand new or a practiced archer fine-tuning your form, this place is magic. It's free to use, open to the public, and beautifully maintained -- a rare mix of L.A. chill and Olympic discipline. The sound of arrows hitting targets is weirdly meditative, and for a moment, you forget you're in Van Nuys and not a medieval forest. If you're serious about learning, do yourself a favor and take a class here. The instructors are incredibly patient, passionate, and knowledgeable -- many are lifelong archers who learned the craft right here. And for equipment, look up Robertson Archery before you go -- one of the best local resources for tuning, gear, and guidance. The Woodley Park Archery Range is an L.A. gem -- steeped in history, beautifully run, and accessible to everyone. I was fortunate enough to book a class, since they still had openings. In order to book, you are required to pay $5 per person, and each person shooting needs a reservation. For the first time archer classes you need to arrive 15 minutes to sign in, get placed with a group/instructor, get the gear (they measure your arms, for the bow and arrows) the first-time archer classes are 8 AM and the returning is at 10 AM. Our instructor was very informative and helpful throughout the class. We also benefit from having a trainee in class where he was shadowing the main instructor. He was helpful with assisting and correcting our form. I was in a group with 9 other people. Each group was led by an instructor and taken to their own shooting area to learn the etiquette, rules, and how to shoot properly. He provides demonstrations and tips for correct shooting. After each demonstration, instructor invited the group to the line to practice shooting. Instructions were very clear and helpful. At the end, they provide balloons as targets to shoot. If you were able to pop the balloon, you get a cool pin. After the class was done, the instructor gave us a card to show proof that we've taken the first class, and we can sign up for the returning class if we decide to. Parking is limited. There is a small parking lot and it gets filled quickly. Come early or park on the street and walk down the hill.

There are also more of a long range targets if you are into that. The range is very well maintained, never too crowded, and the whole experience is just unmatched. I have been to several archery ranges and this is absolutely in its own league. Per City of Pasadena regulations you need to be certified to practice at the range, which entails about an hour long class and a small fee. Just keep in mind that it will take about a month to get your cert sent to you, so do it in advance. Absolutely worth it. Any interactions I have had with the staff and members of the club have been great. They also have classes, competitions, events, etc. Once a month (I believe 3rd Sunday of every month) they put up 3D targets, which are a lot of fun. Honestly, this place is a gem. P.S. It is also the oldest continuously operating field archery range in the world.
