I found it on a dead end road, Benson Ave just off of Oakdale Dr in the Waukesha area. Benson Ave dead ends into a small gravel parking area with the gated entrance to the wild life area. I saw a car drive right into it and disappear and I saw a dog walker park out side of the entrance and walk in, I think you can drive in and explore it because the sign doesn't say no cars in the list of restrictions. I couldn't find this on Yelp so I added it because it looks cool and it's not that far from from Milwaukee for a close recreation wild life area. I didn't have enough time to explore it properly/fully but I would like to go back and check it out, the DNR web page lists birding, boating with restrictions, canoeing, cross country skiing, dog trial grounds, fishing, hiking, hunting with restrictions, snowmobiling trail, wild edibles and wildlife viewing so it sounds like an all around cool place. I have posted my pictures and some from the web site for more information. I never knew this cool wildlife area was so close and I just wanted to put it out there especially for the dog people who like to take the pooches on walks and want something a step up/different from the designated dog parks.

Vernon Wildlife Area - It looks relatively big, I didn't want to drive in any further and disturb the guy walking his dog or the dog.

The overall park was a nice size, mostly lawn and the pond. There was a picnic table under a covered roof and a bench facing the pond. This is a great park for dogs that love to run and swim! There is also a second space for small dogs. The swimming pond is located in the large dog area. Double entry gates are present for both play spaces. I didn't explore the other areas of the park but it appeared to have a children's play area as well as other outdoor spaces.

They correct their dogs (unlike other parks) but there's not much need of that here. Most of the dogs are so well behaved and they all just have a blast together. There's a cool bone shaped pond in the middle of the bigger dog area for the pups to romp in and cool down in on hot days. It's bottom is sand, not mud so they don't get too dirty. They have a smaller area for smaller dogs. My Gretel is wee but she doesn't stay in the small area if me and our big baby puppy, Hanso, are in the big area. So she just comes with abs rules over the park. Just ask anyone about Gretel and that's what they say, not me. Lol There are picnic tables and benches to sit on for our old tired bones. Kids are welcome and there's a playground outside the dog section. Right by a yet BIGGER pond with a walking path around it. Many dog folks walk their dogs around that one as well. They even provide poop bags at both dog park areas to clean up after your fur children. Everyone is welcome as long as their dogs aren't "vicious" like Gretel the Vocal Queen. See ya here!
