It's paved and wide so great for any and all uses from walking and running to cycling and rollerblading. I've enjoyed beautiful walks on different parts of the trail as well as cycling. One of our favorite things to do in late summer is enjoy a long Sunday evening cycling session on the trail and then stop at one of the beer gardens that are easily accessed from the trail. Most recently, we cycled and ended at Estabrook Beer garden for some hard earned pretzels and beer. It's woodsy and lovely and, in my opinion. one of the many shining gems of our county. Get to it!

It's such a peaceful time, perfect for bird watching, biking, walking, running, sight seeing, etc. Each bridge is fun to walk on and give you different sights of the south side and downtown area. There are some factories around but they didn't add too much noise or anything like that. Definitely one of my favorite parks/trqils. I've taken some of my clients with the youngest being 8 and she absolutely loved it, the hills, the animals, and the water. Definitely recommend for nature lovers.

We haven't even touched a fraction of the trails available to hike down here. This particular location is in the Southern Kettle Moraine forest and takes about an hour or so to get to out of Milwaukee. It is across the street from the famed mountain bike course, John Muir trail system. We were so kindly given some advice and it was wisely heeded. The trails we went on were excellent. Rolling hills and bluffs, some in the woods and some not. Either way we took a 4.5 mile-ish jaunt through the area and were just in awe! It was simply spectacular! Wisconsin in general has some of the best well marked trails one could ask for. We spent most of the time with our dog off leash walking the trail as the place was literally dead! I think that this trail goes slightly unnoticed because of the mountain biking trail next door. This equaled a win win for us! We will be back soon as I want to do the entire 9 mile stretch. Love some Wisconsin hiking! It is the best!

Frisbee golf? You got it. Golf golf? You got it. Sledding? You got it. XX Skiiing. BYO, but got that too! Hiking here is a pleasure, and there are so many trails and different types of landscapes. Blue Loop is a wooded wonderland. But is there a way around the Yellow Loop without having to walk on water? LMK! Can't wait to get back to Whitnall Park.

I'd rather check out a different free park in the area, like Whitnall.

I went this past visit with my pup to paddle board- I personally wouldn't go again for this since it really is a pond and the water is a bit stinky and quite yucky! If we would have fallen in the water I would have been so upset so we only did one lap and then I let him play some water fetch. I do love the expanse of trails however and it looks like they have a beer garden set up as well. I'll come back just not for the water portion here

We went cross country skiing with rentals from Nordic Specialists located in the Evergreen Shelter next to the Evergreen lodge. Entry is with a fee or free with your purchase annual WI State parks pass. Not too far from the city, this place has the solitude and nature getaway not too far from the city. Xski rentals were $30 for classic ski that came with shoes poles and skis for two hours. It's also nice in the summer for getting a hike in whether you want a short one or a challenging long hike. There's also an observatory tower you can hike up flights of stairs for a nice view! The evergreen lodge is new and spacious to stay warm during the winter or cool in the shade in the off-winter time.

Retzer has a planetarium that shows the most amazing programs. We saw Astronomica, the 3rd in the…read moreseries by James Hood. It was fantastic, and I was actually buzzing physically at the end. We also learned about the all upcoming presentations and we plan to attend as often as possible. This is a little theater that is so unique and should not be dismissed. The entire nature center and grounds are beautiful, and hiking the woods is always a pleasure. The downside is that dogs are not allowed, but that is understandable since they protect nature as much as possible. Please take a look at their website and do yourself a favor by attending an event or two. It really is a great way to spend an evening or hike for the day. The entire area is 483 acres, and is open at 6:00 am until 10:00 pm. There is no charge for parking or entering the park. Only the events have a fee, and it is not expensive. And everything inside is easily accessible for anyone with mobility issues.

There are remains of the old insane asylum dating from 1880 there that give it some character and history. Nice rolling hills, places to fish, places to relax under treecover or in the sun, a good mix of everything.
