"You bought it, now it is your problem". This was the response after presenting leaves from a tree…read moreshowing it had developed Shot Hole disease. A disease that can easily be controlled if sprayed either in the fall after leaf drop or in the spring before leaf emergence. The tree, purchased several weeks earlier had fully leafed out when I purchased it and as it turned out without getting the requisite spray to control the disease. The disease was devastating, stunting the tree with over 50% leaf loss, and the remaining leaves yellowed and covered with holes. As an extra bonus, the new tree managed to infect two other trees that never before had the disease. I requested either a refund or a replacement and got neither, just the disgusting quote at the top of this comment. Any nursery that sells diseased and infectious plants has got to go. Tell your landscapers you do not want infected plants.

I quickly fell in love with a handful of plants and found adorable pots for each one too. Need an air plant? Fern has them. Need larger plants? Fern has those too. There are also plenty of crystals and small items to add to your pots. I might have even picked up some cute little gnomes to hide in my plants. What I like most about this place is that the folks that work here are super helpful. They will plant any of the succulents or other plants you purchase into a pot you pick out. That way you won't have to purchase any extra potting soil. So, it has easily become my go-to place to get cute plants as to give as gifts to friends and family. There is also a small parking lot in front of the building, making the business easily accessible just outside of downtown Spokane.

I don't have a truck but Northland Nursery still let me buy a cubic yard of WSU compost (recently…read morecertified organic) for $35. When I told them I was going to hand load it into bags and disclosed my 619 area code, I'm sure they thought "batshit crazy Californian" - but hey, I'm not complaining. I got my compost and feel happy with the product and the price. If you are as crazy as me and willing to get your workout, bring a roll of strong garbage bags, a shovel and maybe a bucket to hold up your bags. Go into the office and say you want a cubic yard of compost and you will hand load it. You might raise a little laugh but, you are crazy after all. :-) They'll sell it to you and give you a receipt. You will drive your car around to the compost pile on the lot. I was helpfully shown where to park. They will drive a tractor up, scoop your cubic yard and dump it on the ground for you to shovel into bags. If you are lucky enough to have or borrow a truck they will put it in the truck bed for you. If not proceed to get your workout shoveling it into the garbage bags and throwing them into the back of your car. A cubic yard of compost in bags fills the back of an SUV with the back seats down. So ladies move your car seats out first and bring those strong garbage bags. You won't have to go to the gym today! Better yet bring a teenager (only one will fit in the car) and get some help with this chore. Wish I had one of those but my kid's only 7. Thanks Northland Nursery for tolerating this newb! ;-)
