Club itself is just okay, but lots of great musicians pass through.

Last night 2 friends and I went to see Emmett Cohen, a favorite jazz pianist. The show was…read morefantastic; Emmett, his bass player and percussionist are top-notch jazz performers and anyone who likes jazz should rush to see them whenever they are in town. No photos since they announced "no photography" at the beginning of the show. I only saw one server working the lower level, and we had been seated for about 10 minutes before we even saw her, so we were concerned. That said, once she took our order for drinks they came pretty quickly I've been to Scullers many, MANY times and because there are so few jazz places in Boston I consider myself a regular. That said, as others have noted, there are a lot of tables packed together closely, and for me the best seats are on the left side of the room and near the stage where there is less crowding. The upper level of the room only works if you are in the front row of tables as those behind will likely have someone blocking the view of the stage. The seats at the very back of the room are high tables and better for viewing the stage, but you are at the mercy of fellow patrons if they are prone to chat instead of watching the show.

Unfortunately, all of that was ruined last night before the show even started. The doors were supposed to open 45 minutes before the performance, specifically so guests would have time to be served drinks and food before the show. Instead, a large line formed outside -- mostly older guests who'd come for an evening of classic jazz. We stood outside for the full 45 minutes while staff strolled in and out at a leisurely pace, completely unhurried, telling us the payment system for drinks and food wasn't working and refusing to let anyone in. By some remarkable coincidence, the system got fixed right around the time the show was supposed to start. We were finally let in at that point, which pushed the actual start of the show back by 15 minutes. So instead of the promised 45 minutes to get everyone seated and served, staff had only about 15 minutes to work with -- nowhere near enough for a full room. We ended up getting our own drinks and appetizers just 10 minutes before the show ended, meaning we sat through nearly the entire performance without having ordered anything. The music itself may well have been good, but there was no enjoying the evening after a start like that -- the frustration overshadowed everything.

Wow! I can not recommend Jazz in the Air enough. All of our guests raved about how great they were. They play both traditional jazz music and a mix of some popular jazz & Latin hits (Frank Sinatra, etc). If you're looking for Sir Mixalot and some Rihanna, you'll have to look elsewhere because these guys have class! First off, Bob was incredibly great to work with. I probably only sent 2-3 emails and a couple phone calls at most about a year out, and a week before the wedding - just indicating what songs we wanted and to confirm some deposits and details. We are pretty much "roll with it" people and gave them the reigns on this one, they showed up and played exactly what we had hoped for. They had a flute and keyboard for our outdoor ceremony with lovely classical music and were perfectly on cue. They even took a lot of requests for songs from our guests during the reception (except for Portuguese music, haha! What did you expect, Auntie-in-law??). Our guests were certainly up and dancing all evening. Also, they didn't have a song in their repertoire (we chose a Chuck Berry song for our first dance) and they actually learned it for us! Lastly, the price was very exceptionally reasonable for the quality, their presentation and their talent. Why need a DJ when you can get such sophistication from live musicians? Highly, highly recommend for your wedding. Thanks, Bob Sabourin & Jazz in the Air!!

Our waitress, Caoimhe "Kwee-va," was truly a standout and made this a 5/5 experience. It is so rare to have such caring, attentive service nowadays and we were absolutely blown away by her. We walked into a space where the walls are covered with photos of artists and music memorabilia, while dim lighting, packed tables, and frequent live performances give the restaurant a distinctly neighborhood feel. Whether stopping in for a casual drink or staying for an evening of music, the experience centers around the performances happening just a few feet away. The menu leans heavily into Irish pub comfort food with generous portions and hearty classics. We tried the Guinness Beef Stew and the Shepherd's Pie, both of which delivered rich flavors and exactly what you would expect from a solid Irish restaurant. Other popular items on the menu include curry fries, clam chowder, burgers, and traditional pub fare designed to pair naturally with a pint. The comfort food favorites consistently stand out, while opinions on some other menu items may vary. Service is friendly and welcoming, even on busy nights when the venue fills up for performances. The staff handles both diners and music crowds with ease, helping maintain a relaxed atmosphere despite the constant activity. Live entertainment is clearly a major part of the identity here, with regular performances ranging from Irish sessions and jazz to open mic nights and other local acts. For a neighborhood pub near Berklee that delivers on both hearty Irish food and live music, The Bebop offers a warm, energetic experience built around community and performance.
