What a fun experience here at Emo night Karaoke singing with a live band!!…read more First time here! It's quite a decent space for a live band performance good stage and great lights and good sound! There is a bar in the back. We had to line up outside to get inside at 7pm. It was cold! Once inside there was another line to sign up for songs which we did. We got spots right in front of the stage so had the best view! The songs order are on a lottery and so nobody knows 1) the order of songs not even the band, and when they'll get to sing - they show the next 5 songs on the screen so at least you know if your song is coming up and 2) if you'll even get to sing or not! Luckily the hubs got to sing and so did I (a duet with him) and another friend but our other friend did not get a chance. So fun to sing with a live band with like 250 people rocking out to the songs - like a concert! The band was great and the opening act was a cellist who was called the punk cellist Ian Legge and he was great too. For $25 tickets it was a great show - seems like everyone had a great time!

Last night 2 friends and I went to see Emmett Cohen, a favorite jazz pianist. The show was…read morefantastic; Emmett, his bass player and percussionist are top-notch jazz performers and anyone who likes jazz should rush to see them whenever they are in town. No photos since they announced "no photography" at the beginning of the show. I only saw one server working the lower level, and we had been seated for about 10 minutes before we even saw her, so we were concerned. That said, once she took our order for drinks they came pretty quickly I've been to Scullers many, MANY times and because there are so few jazz places in Boston I consider myself a regular. That said, as others have noted, there are a lot of tables packed together closely, and for me the best seats are on the left side of the room and near the stage where there is less crowding. The upper level of the room only works if you are in the front row of tables as those behind will likely have someone blocking the view of the stage. The seats at the very back of the room are high tables and better for viewing the stage, but you are at the mercy of fellow patrons if they are prone to chat instead of watching the show.

Unfortunately, all of that was ruined last night before the show even started. The doors were supposed to open 45 minutes before the performance, specifically so guests would have time to be served drinks and food before the show. Instead, a large line formed outside -- mostly older guests who'd come for an evening of classic jazz. We stood outside for the full 45 minutes while staff strolled in and out at a leisurely pace, completely unhurried, telling us the payment system for drinks and food wasn't working and refusing to let anyone in. By some remarkable coincidence, the system got fixed right around the time the show was supposed to start. We were finally let in at that point, which pushed the actual start of the show back by 15 minutes. So instead of the promised 45 minutes to get everyone seated and served, staff had only about 15 minutes to work with -- nowhere near enough for a full room. We ended up getting our own drinks and appetizers just 10 minutes before the show ended, meaning we sat through nearly the entire performance without having ordered anything. The music itself may well have been good, but there was no enjoying the evening after a start like that -- the frustration overshadowed everything.

There is a balcony area if you wish to pay extra for your ticket as well, but it is a bit farther from the stage so if you want up close and personal, go GA and get there early. Limited street parking, but ample garages very close that charge $20 for event parking. Departing was quicker than a lot of venues I have been to from garage just up the street. Security and staff are quick to process and get you in. May want to pregame as drinks are a bit spendy here. Restrooms set off from the floor with dedicated entrance and exit to make the traffic flow good. Good smaller venue to get up close and personal for a show.

These people literally stole $500 from me and my husband…read more Just another upset person writing a review that will be ignored. Way to take zero accountability for anything you do to make people unhappy, way to provide atrocious service and then run away from it. Zero improvements... is embarrassing. You're not even trying to do better. Here's my story. My husband had bought tickets back in like May for Slayyyter here. We were really excited about going. We get there, wait an hour in line. Finally get in and we're standing so close to the stage. I'm all excited. And then I start to overheat and feel dizzy. I tell my husband I think I'm gonna be sick and excuse myself to run to the bathroom. I'm running, literally holding my puke in throwing up in my mouth- I finally find the bathroom and as I'm throwing up I hear people outside talking and talking to my husband. Someone's like "yeah a little bit got on the floor, she has to go, yeah" and someone asking if I was drinking. I finish up in the stall and when I come out there is an "EMT" lady and a "security" lady. Both incredibly rude as soon as they saw me. The EMT lady just goes, "been drinking tonight, huh?" I showed her the X on both my hands that meant I wasn't drinking and couldn't buy alcohol in the venue. I told her I've been sober over 2 years and just overheated and I was okay. She goes "go ahead and wash your hands so we can go outside and talk" as if I'm about to get in trouble. I'm like "talk about what? I just overheated" she's like "yeah well venues have policies" and walked out. I'm like ??? Okay? So we go out and there's like 4 different people there telling us that vomiting is a biohazard so we have to leave. They don't listen to anything we have to say, don't offer us a refund, don't ask to check on me, give me water, nothing. They were treating me like I was a stupid belligerent drunk when I was stone cold sober and literally fine to go back in the crowd. Those tickets were like $500. I was literally crying as they shoved us out the side door and didn't even offer any kindness. Absolute insanity. Got ready, drove 2 hours to Boston, waited an hour in line and finally was 3rd row ready to see the show and this had to happen. I sent an email to see if I can get a refund or something because I don't know how they can just treat people that way. Didn't even offer water or anything else either. So incredibly rude. And just out $500 for what? I'm still so upset. It's like man, if you hate people so much and you're a rude, nasty person with no compassion, why be a fkin EMT? Again. Clearly yall don't even care but I'm posting this for the awareness of others. I'm not going to be silent about this one. I'm 32 and been to so many concerts in my life. Saw Lady Gaga 6 times. Twice in the big city of Chicago. Never had an experience this horrendous. You truly should be embarrassed. And I will be emailing and writing reviews and spreading the word about this issue until something is done. We opted for their Passim burger with thyme fries on a brioche bun which exceeded my expectations for a place that's primarily a music venue. I thought the food would be more of an afterthought but it was equivalent to a casual bistro or gastropub. We sat right in the front row which was amazing for the experience and pics but I would recommend maybe bringing some ear protection if you sit this close. Our show was supposedly sold out but we lucked out that the folks seated next to us didn't show- otherwise I could see that one would be really packed in here as the seating is extremely close together. The performance was amazing! We absolutely loved the show and the intimate vibes. I also really appreciated that Fabiola took some time to explain her instrument, some Puerto Rican history and her experience growing up playing a folk instrument. She graduated from Berklee in 2018 and also brought in a Cuban tres player named Olivia Soler Espinosa in the latter part of her performance who is currently studying at Berklee. Another cool aspect of this place was the mixed ages. There was a good representation of older folks who looked like they have been coming to Passim since the 60s as well as younger folks in their 20s and 30s as well as folks in between. Went here for the first time last night…read more Had a blast rocking out to Squints with my buddies. We also caught some of Sand Machine before Squints took the stage. The place was sold out. Good energy, good sound, and a good time all around. The Jungle is a really cool live band venue tucked away in Somerville with food stands and restaurants surrounding it. Super friendly staff running the place. I love that it's mainly a live band space with a nice sized bar in the back. Support live music people. Super fun night at The Jungle! Looking forward to more shows!

Down an…read moreunassuming alley in Somerville, The Jungle opens up into a cavernous black-painted space with a stage at the end. It's full of funky art pieces and a random assortment of tables. There's a small bar at one end serving beer, cocktails and food. While we were there the line up was a couple local indie bands. A great place to check out the local music scene. Minus one star because there was a strange smoky oily smell which may have been coming from another business but was unpleasant.
