I have nearly 400 dives logged. I dive throughout the Caribbean and have sampled a number of top quality dive centers. Of all of them, ScubaTony (ST) stands out as the best. Here's why... Professionalism - The ScubaTony team is made up of outstanding Instructor-Dive Masters, boat captains and support staff. Importantly, all the Dive Masters are certified Instructors, which is very rare at a dive center. They are all seasoned professionals. Beyond that, they are caring individuals who want you to be safe and have a fantastic dive experience. Customer Service - Tony and Adam are co-owners. They've built the business based on the core true belief that when a customer has an awesome experience, they will become a return customer and also tell others about them. Equipment - The equipment is in excellent condition and is turned over for new gear regularly; I'm told about every 100 dives. It is also well maintained. As part of my professional career, I've been responsible for the teaching of customer service skills in some top-flight major companies. So, I look with a critical eye at the customer service of any company. What I've found is that each member of the ST-team starting with Paulina in Reservations all the way through to the Instructor-Dive Masters and boat captains, are on the same page about delivering a truly best-in-class customer experience. What I found with ST is thoroughness, professionalism, safety consciousness, and technical skills they have as both individuals, as well as a team, and are second to no one. The Instructor-Dive Masters are first-rate. Israel, Charlie, Pedro, Marc and Manuel (Manu) are at your service and knock themselves out to make your dive trip the best you've ever experienced. The boat captains, Carlos (aka Papo) and Hector (aka Mago which means magician in Spanish) are highly-skilled as boat drivers. But, they don't just drive the boat. They too go beyond this as you are preparing for your dive. They make sure everything is right with your equipment, and they help you put on your gear. Again, with them, safety is Job-1, right up there with you having an awesome dive. When exiting the water and getting back into the boat,, they make sure you get back on the boat safely, that you are secured, offered hydration and food, and all with sincere smiles, and light-hearted humor to go with it. One thing that really stands out is how they deal with newer divers. I can only wish that when I dive somewhere other than Cozumel that I am treated to such a great experience. Scuba Tony is my dive operation of choice on Cozumel. I have dived with them on multiple occasions and they never disappoint. When you select a dive operation, there are a few important factors to consider: 1. Scheduling. They are VERY responsive (definitely will respond within 24 hours, but most of the time it's much faster, within an hour or two) and very accommodating. My friend and I had a very complicated schedule of medical treatments that we needed to work around, and I was a little worried that it would be impossible for us to dive as much as we wanted to. But Adam and Paulina made it SO easy, and it involved zero stress, even when we had to make some last-minute modifications... 2. Logistics. In my experience, their boats always leave on time and are super clean and equipped with everything you need to, even a little freshwater shower, which can be soooo nice after soaking in saltwater for an hour :). And I really appreciate the fact that you can leave your gear with them if you dive multiple days; it's really no fun lugging wet gear around, and they will clean and dry it for your next dive. Makes the whole experience so much easier and more enjoyable... 3. Professionalism during diving. ST captains and divemasters are all top-notch! I've only dived with Javier, but I have seen others in action (and I'm a dive instructor myself, so I can tell!). You always feel very safe on the boats and underwater. Javier goes above and beyond to make sure your dive experience is as amazing as possible. He always looks for interesting things during the dives to show you. If you're a new diver, he will make sure you feel confident and give you useful tips on your air consumption, streamlining of gear, underwater skills, etc. I always feel extremely safe diving with Javier and it's a lot of fun too! Bottom time is usually around an hour; even if there are people with less than optimal air consumption; ST divemasters will make sure to structure the dive to accommodate everyone. 4. Attention to detail. Little things matter to me, they make our life more comfortable and enjoyable. I already mentioned the freshwater shower on the boat (!!!) - super nice after a salty dive. For your water, they gift you a reusable bottle with your name on it - an environmentally conscious approach and a nice souvenir of your dive trip. There's always fresh fruit and yummy cookies at the surface interval. The captain will make sure your stuff stays dry on the boat. You're always asked where you'd like to dive and ST divemasters will try to accommodate everyone's requests (to a reasonable degree, of course, depending on the group's experience level and weather conditions). In short, Scuba Tony is an EXCELLENT operation that makes your diving vacation EASY, SAFE, and LOTS OF FUN! If you are thinking of scuba diving in the Carribean, definitely go in Cozumel with ScubaTony. Our group of four got our open water PADI certifications and did some additional fun dives with ScubaTony and were blown away by how easy they made the entire process. It was an incredible week and we're already wishing we could go back! The best part was the personalized experience we received, from the very beginning when we booked our dives with Paulina to the last day when we felt like we were saying goodbye to some of our best friends (shoutout Marc, Javier, and Captain Papo - the way you make everyone feel so valued still amazes me). ScubaTony limits their dives to only 6 people max - other companies have 20+ people per boat, so I can only imagine what it would be like being stuck going to wherever the group goes and running into each other while diving. Our divemasters customized our dives based on our preferences and knew the perfect reefs to visit based on what we wanted to experience! In just one week of diving, we saw several turtles, eels, barracuda, grouper, and a few sharks! ScubaTony uses top-of-the-line Aqua Lung gear and does all the prep work so the only thing we had to think about was diving! Our boat captain Papo was the best and was always waiting with drinks and snacks at the end of each dive. And I can't imagine better divemasters - on one of our dives, we were down about 40 feet when I realized I had forgotten to tighten my mask. Our divemaster was right there and came over immediately to help me fix my mask so I could enjoy the rest of my dive. Hands down, Scuba Tony is the best dive company I have ever dove with. In my years as a diver we have been all over the world. I scheduled a dive with them knowing we were on a cruise and I had no idea what I was in store for us from their team. Super easy to get to the dock, maybe 5 minutes via a taxi. The boat was ready when we got there, so we signed our forms and took off. We had 4 divers in our group with 1 being a newly certified junior diver, so I had specific requirements for our dives because of the depth limit for my youngest. Our dive master was Mark and I must say he was fantastic! He took my youngest under his wing, helped him learn and adjust to a new computer and totally made the dives awesome. Can't say enough about him and the Captain. We did 3 dives in total. During our surface intervals, we got to snorkel an amazing area with tons of starfish and then they dropped us off at a resort for lunch on the other surface interval. All very easy and great. During the dives we saw the most wildlife I have ever seen while diving, which I think is credit to Mark since he was working so hard to point as many things out to us. Wildlife included parrot fish, sea horse, cucumbers, the biggest angel fish I have ever seen, lots of turtles, a huge school (10) of barracuda (which was cool but unnerving a little...), string rays, snapper, grouper, butterfly fish.... The list could go on. We had a bonus of the owner, Adam, joining us for the first dive. He is a fantastic diver as well. The company is very ecofriendly which you can tell by the water bottles they give to you with the cool Scuba Tony Logo on them, I was also very intrigued by the talk Adam and I had about the sea grass issues, sea water temperature issues, some coral reef damage that Cozumel is dealing with and how being a responsible diver can help in mitigating further coral reel damage. I could go on and on, but overall this is my favorite 3 dives I have ever completed, and this company is fantastic. read more

Most Incredible Experience and Company! My wife and I had an incredible experience diving with ScubaTony. We received our open water PADI certification and then did several additional dives through their company. I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy scuba diving, but after a week of diving with ScubaTony I fell in love with diving. We love to travel and our week in Cozumel was truly one of the best of our lives thanks to ScubaTony! ScubaTony limits their experiences to 6 customers per boat, which is so nice because our divemasters customized our dives to what we wanted to see. We were lucky enough to have Captain Papo (who has been with ScubaTony since day one) and Marc and Javier as our divemasters. They are all extremely experienced and fun yet professional at the same time. Marc and Javier did an amazing job of pointing out all the wildlife, from sharks to tiny seahorses in the coral. They know the reefs like the back of their hand and care a lot about protecting the environment and wildlife. We saw several other boats with 15 - 30 divers and, with the strong current dives in Cozumel, I can only imagine what a mess it would be to try to stay together as a large group! With our small group, we were able to go at our own pace and focus on diving and exploring all the incredible wildlife in the Cozumel reefs! And who can forget Captain Papo!! After each dive, he was right there waiting with the boat, drinks, and snacks! Anything we needed he was there for - even prepping and changing our tanks and gear before we noticed, so all we had to do is dive! ScubaTony has top of the line Aqua Lung scuba gear, so we were spoiled with wearing new wetsuits and BCUs with integrated quick release weights. We just got back from a dive trip with Scuba Tony and it was fantastic. Here is why I am giving them a Five Star review: Service. The level of service is exceptional. The dive masters and captains are incredibly helpful and attentive, and obviously care about your experience. They lug around all the equipment, give you snacks and fruit after the dive, and have your gear ready to go the next day. All you have to do is show up and dive. They gave us a free souvenir water bottle after we finished the last dive. Small dive groups. They won't book more than six divers to a boat to ensure the divers have the best possible experience. The other operations on Cozumel make you go with bigger groups, usually eight or more divers! It ends up feeling crowded and hectic, particularly when your dive group sees something exciting (like a turtle) and everyone tries to look at the same time. Other than the high level of service, guaranteeing you a small dive group really sets them apart from the other operations. Conditions on Cozumel. The water was perfect. We saw eagle rays, turtles, lobsters, crabs, puffer fish, nurse sharks, and a wide variety of reef fish. We did drift diving with a current, so we were able to experience quite a bit during our dives. Dive master Israel was leading our dive. He was incredibly knowledgeable and stayed with us the entire time. Another guy in our group told a story about a dive in another country where the dive master left them alone in the middle of the first dive. That won't happen with Scuba Tony. I also appreciated how respectful they are of the reef and environment. They reminded everyone at the beginning not to touch the reef or take anything during the dive. Everyone on the trip was very impressed with Cozumel and the people at Scuba Tony. Would highly recommend for new or experienced divers. read more

Top tier experience from a dive company who knows what they are doing! With Scubatony everything just went as smooth as it could. They have the easiest booking process we have ever tried for diving, supported with Paulina who answered so informative on every question we had with an incredible fast response time. We stayed at Playa Del Carmen, so we needed to arrange our four dives with an overnight on the island! Their location at the marina was very easy to find with their informative videos and from the time we arrived, the only thing we needed to do were literally just to make sure to breathe when we dove! Captain Carlos and our dive masters Marc and Miguel took care of everything for us - diving gear, morning coffee, fruit, cookies, drinks... You name it! We did not bring any ourselves but used Scubatony's Aqua Lung gear, which was top notch. On the boat, the dive masters led us customize our two dives; if we had a particular reef we wanted to try, we could go there! Their dive instructions were so informative about the reefs and all possible encounters. Especially on our dives, Marc and Miguel were so passionate about spotting and showing wildlife, which made us even more excited for the dives. We experienced sharks, several grassing turtles, moray ells, an octopus, stingrays, lobsters, crabs and the biggest goddam barracuda we have ever seen! One thing is to dive at Cozumel, but diving at Cozumel with Scubatony was the best decision we made on our trip to Mexico! Our group of four decided to get certified while we were staying in Cozumel and after checking out some different reviews and companies, decided to go with ScubaTony. Turned out to easily the best decision we while on the island. The PADI certification course was a breeze for our group. Marc (our instructor for the course) kept things moving and helped everyone to feel confident from the first time we got in the water to practice our basic skills. I was really worried that the course would be a drag but certification process was fun from Day 1 and only got better. While you still will be practicing your skills throughout your course dives, there is plenty of time to relax and enjoy the dive itself. The PADI certification went so well that we booked four more dives with ScubaTony. At this point, we were buddies with Papo (the boat captain) and had met the whole team at ScubaTony. Javier took us on four dives over the next couple days. We saw everything you could hope for- from lobsters that could probably eat our dog to the tiniest sea horses. Javier was an expert in spotting wildlife that anyone else would miss. The best part of the ANY of the dives was waiting on a sandy bottom below the waves, waiting for a turtle at the surface to dive back down. Since we just waited patiently and didn't move, the turtle was fine with swimming right up close to us on his return dive! read more

Top Service! I am absolutely impressed by how well the diving operation of ScubaTony works. My partner and I dove in Cozumel for 10 days (20 dives) at the end of June 2019 and we had an excellent experience. ScubaTony has 2 small boats - 6 divers max. We had a chance to dive with all divemasters/instructors on both boats and with both captains. I am a divemaster myself and my partner is a scuba instructor and we both pay great attention to safety and professionalism, when we go diving. That's why we always pick well established dive shops. The time we had on ScubaTony was absolutely great. All the guides are very experienced and really make an effort to please all the divers. The atmosphere on the boat is very relaxed and jolly. The briefings are thorough and the captains know the dive sites like the palm of their hand. Water entry and exit are very efficient. We also had our underwater cameras with us and got good help on the boat with those. The guides also did their best to please us, as we dove for 10 consecutive days - we visited all the best dive sites including the more remote ones. If you are going just for a long weekend and not sure whether you want to travel with your scuba gear, just pack your mast and fins and rent the rest - all the gear is brand new! In any case, make sure you book in advance, because the boats get full quickly, especially in high season. read more

I just finished a week of diving with Scuba Tony. It went flawlessly. They are a well run, efficient and professional dive operation. I highly recommend them. Andrea, who runs the office and all correspondence is very organized and responsive. She answers e-mail crazy fast. Adam who is point-man on the dock, makes sure everything is flowing smoothly and that all his guests are satisfied. Their boat captains have decades of boating experience. Papo, our captain is very charming (and brought mangos from his back yard to share. YUMMMM!) I had very wanted to see a Splendid Toadfish while there, and was not disappointed. Robeto our DM, found 3 on the first morning!! Thanks!! Javier, my DM on another dive, used his eagle eyes to find a Painted Elysia!! This while the current was flying us along.... Nice job! All dives were well discussed and conducted in a safe, fun, and informative manner. Plus they are all just nice good people. The marina where the boat is kept is New Marina Fonatur. If you are staying south in a resort, they will pick you up at your hotel dock. I opted to stay in town. It is ~4 kM out of town. You can either get a 8 USD taxi ride, or rent a bike like I did. It is a nice 25 minute pleasant and leisurly ride down. read more

I've been diving for over 20 years now, and I have to say that the guys at ScubaTony are among the most professional I've ever dived with. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Mark, the divemaster I did six of the eight dives with, as he was extremely professional but also very flexible with us and a whole load of fun at the same time. You don't find this type of divemasters all the time. Israel was my other divemaster and he was also excellent! While ScubaTony's boats are small (compared to other companies there) I found this to be quite fine because we were small groups (and I prefer diving in small groups). Their captains also deserve a good shoutout (Papo and Hector) as both were among the funniest people on board and always kept us fed with snacks and fruits and well hydrated. I rented all of my equipment with them, so I can say that their diving equipment was in excellent conditions and/or new. While I didn't do any certification with them, I'm sure they are an excellent choice for it. Really, I give these guys a 10 out of 10! Regarding the dive spots... there are so many and all of them are different and stunning! The Palancar Reef is such a wonderful place to dive, and the C53 wreck is also highly recommended. read more

We never had a diving school before, which made it really their top priority to create the most enjoyable and safe diving adventure you can imagine. We went out with Mark and Manuel who both where super nice, uplifting and supportive in every possible way. one day we went with Mark and 2 divers who brought their wifes on the boat for snorkelling. They were incredible complicated and negativ before they even stepped their feed on the boat. It took about 5 minutes until Mark had shifted their entire mood making them feel super comfortable. Haven't seen social skills and caring about costomers like that anywhere else in the world. The boat is small but super nice and comfortable. This makes the trip super personal and the divemaster as well as the captain really take care of everything. You are served with fresh fruits your personal reusable water bottle, many snacks and beverages. Even the whole equipment is beeing set up for your comfort, so you only need to chill and enjoy. The divemasters are super experienced and spot a 100 things you might miss on your own. We saw dozens of turtles, langustes, lionfishes and even seahorses and sharks hiding in caves. Marc (with the Australian accent) :) was phenomenal! My husband and I went to Cozumel on February and as soon as we arrived to the port wet we're greeted by a friendly Marc. We cannot begin to express how much I enjoyed and loved the whole experience there. Marc was very knowledgeable, professional, and truly took the time explaining everything, making you feel at ease and very comfortable. My nerves got the best of me in the beginning but Marc was there every step of the way making sure I was okay. I cannot begin to express how caring he was and how much he made our whole experience a very beautiful memorable one. We knew the ocean was beautiful but my god, were we missing out on some real beauty! Towards the end of journey Marc continued to amaze us with his professionalism and care, he provided us with jackets to keep warm on our ride back, snacks, water, and souvenir cup. Selecting a dive op in Cozumel can be overwhelming; after all, there are over a hundred dive shops on the island! Fortunately, it's been a no-brainer for me since I was introduced to Scuba Tony a few years ago. Scuba Tony is a great operation with comfortable fast boats, experienced captains and divemasters, and very accommodating and efficient reservation managers. Everybody speaks perfect English too, which makes the experience much easier for me as I don't know any Spanish. I usually dive with Javier. He is an absolutely awesome divemaster: super attentive to details and always has good advice on streamlining your diving skills without being overbearing. It is A LOT of fun to dive with him too! With over 20 years of experience, he is still extremely passionate about his job and his genuine excitement about each dive is palpable and makes your experience even more enjoyable, your own excitement childlike. SUPER RECOMMENDABLE. When we decided to travel to Cozumel, we started to investigate what companies had to dive and fulfill our diving journey in the second largest barrier reef in the world. And that's how we came across ScubaTony. His reviews, everywhere, are super positive and that has generated peace of mind. A year ago we did not dive and we needed to do it with a serious company, that takes care of us and encourages us, with whom we could review our diving skills and feel accompanied, in and out of the water. Compared to other "tours" we've been on all over the world, ScubaTony was absolutely top-notch. From glacial kayaking in Alaska to deep sea fishing charters, this experience in our Open Water Course with ScubaTony completely exceeded our expectations. I was nervous as a new diver to clear my ears while diving but the level of professionalism patience, and safety precautions of the entire team - the instructor Marc - the boat captain Papo or our Open Water day with Javier - was beyond belief. The team all speaks perfect English (including Marc from England and Adam from the US, hah!) and have had so much experience diving these Cozumel reefs they were able to slow us down to show us toad fish hidden under rocks, moray eels in hiding places we would have never found ourselves or even waiting in areas for sea turtles to dive down to our exact location! One thing we took for granted too is that ScubaTony has all premium AquaLung gear that essentially looked brand new. I'm worried our experience was so "fancy" we're going to feel like we going to feel like we're "slumming it" the next time we go diving! read more

The dive master spent a lot of one on one time with each diver to ensure that they were confident and safe on each dive. The dive itself was incredible. We saw eagle rays, turtles, nurse sharks, and much more. And the reefs were spectacular. Between the dives the boat crew had plenty of water, drinks, snacks, and fruit to refuel. Awesome dive experience!!! My family and I did the discover scuba dive and we all had an awesome time. There were 4 of us and we booked a private boat to simplify things. I am the only one that is dive certified but it had been more than 10 years since my last dive. Everyone in our group was a bit apprehensive, especially our new divers. Our instructor (Israel) was very patient and with his help everyone got through the skills okay. As we started the actual dive mom got very nervous and had some trouble equalizing but again Israel was very patient and helpful and she was able to enjoy it all with the rest of us. Our boat captain (Hector) was a great guy too. He helped to keep the mood light and I think was the only one that could have convinced my daughter to get back in the water for the next dive. The second dive was even better than the first. Everyone got comfortable and just had fun. We saw tons of fish and the reef was amazing. The highlight was a big grouper than hung out for a bit. Can't say enough good things. We will definitely use them again on our next trip to Cozumel. read more

We just spent the bet week ever diving with these guys! Marc was our DM for most of the time and he was just the best. Funny but professional and every bit as excited about seeing all the awesome underwater wildlife as we were. Manu spent 2 days getting my daughter certified and she loved every minute of it. Captain Mago drove the boat most days and entertained me with magic tricks the one day I sat out the second dive. We had a newly certified 10 yr old diver with us, DM Israel dove with him and made sure he got to see lots of cool stuff even tho he couldn't go quite as deep as the rest of us. I think we had Captain Carlos one day, always a good time with him. DM Pedro was also a pleasure to dive with, the whole team is just top notch and does everything they can to make sure you have a great time while keeping everyone safe. Last but definitely not least, my friend Paulina! She handled our rather complicated bookings and answered dozens of emails without missing a beat- thanks so much!
