He makes the organization what it is. So what does the organization do? The LVCC provides every kind of social service to the Little Village Community. They conduct clothes drives, food banks, job fairs, college fairs, educational workshops, voter registration, services to immigrants, etc. Basically, whatever need is present in the community the LVCC will try to meet it. What I like best about the LVCC is that you get a diversity of people here. If you are the kind of person that wants to give a few hours a week or a month to an organization that does not have any of the red tape and deals with a Hispanic population, then this is the place for you. I went to a meeting here and I felt like I was amongst the village elders, and was welcomed as if they had known me forever.

The Illinois Centennial Memorial Column is the meaning of this large structure. A lot of interesting facts about it. You can find out more online. Basic story about it is this was placed here to celebrate the State of Illinois' 100th anniversary. It was built in 1918 and designed by Henry Bacon, the architect of the Lincoln Memorial. This is the main attraction of Logan Square. It's known as a Doric column. On the base are reliefs of Ceres, Daniel Boone, and Hiawatha. At the top is an eagle. This is a reference of the state flag, which has an eagle on it. Alongside the column is a flagpole. There's a concrete plaque dedicated to soldiers who died in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. Also the column is based on the proportions and scale of the Parthenon's colonnade. This explains the use of the figures of Greek mythology. Also there's a few seating structures around it. This makes it a good place for a rest and stuff. Have to get a closer look to appreciate the craftsmanship and history. It's certainly a very impressive structure. There's lots of history to read up on about this so you can go check out more about the architect who made this and other things.

Built in 1918, the monument was honored 100 years of Illinois statehood, designed by Henry Bacon, famed architect of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. Evelyn Beatrice Longman sculpted the eagle, along with the bas reliefs of the base, which the eagle measures ten feet in height. I tend to utilize this monument as my key landmark while running or cycling in the Logan Square neighborhood. Since I have been a fitness enthusiast for well over a decade, I have always made historic landmarks like the Illinois Centennial Monument my key point during workouts because it adds extra enthusiasm to the adventure. From my perspective select parts like this of Logan Square are perfect for a cyclist because it is scenic, and Logan Boulevard is not too shabby of a road for road or triathlon bikes, plus it has a good stretch to it from the monument towards Bucktown & Wicker Park neighborhood. Most people tend to just walk through the area of the Illinois Centennial Monument, but it looks to be the perfect place where you can relax and read a book. The monument itself has no individual parking of its own, but if you ever wish to view it up close, there are several businesses surrounding in the area that are open for you to park, as well as neighborhood parking. I'm hoping that Galewood will get it together soon and build and actual library for their neighborhood. It's definitely more of a kids library than an adults library. Although I do reserve books online for myself and just pick them up here. You can reserve books online at Chicago Public Library and have them delivered to the library of your choice. I choose this one because it's close to me. The librarians are super friendly and helpful. My kids love coming here to play with the toys and legos. When the weather is hot we go outside and get wet in the splash pad. Such a cute set up. Alderman Taliaferro, we are counting on you to step up and find an actual location for Galewood's library.

It is only one room in the fieldhouse of Rutherford Sayre Park. Park for free on the street (parallel or perpendicular) walk up either staircase and open the main door. turn down the left hallway and go to the end to the single room packed with books. They make the most of their space. They have tables with coloring and puzzles for small kids and many many books. If the kids get antsy, you can send them out to the adjacent playground and splash pad. It's also nice that you can request any book online and pick it up here. I live in OP, so I was able to get a CPL card and get access to more books. However, they only have two full-time employees, and so hours are not the best. Make sure you double-check before you go. Also they do not yet have a bookdrop here, you can always return your books at another CPL location like North Austin or West Belmont. Go check out this library!

Not only are they HOT, but they are so, so, so friendly!…read more I came here with the boys I babysit so they could see the fire engines.. and not only did we get to see them, but we got a tour of the entire station, got to try on gear, and had our 6,452 questions answered by a very patient fire fighter! We also got to go inside both a fire engine and an ambulance - these guys totally made the day of two very happy little boys! And, if you're 21+, you can go out on a ride with them. Good times!

My almost-4 year old daughter has been obsessed with firefighters for a couple years, and in the summer, we walk past the fire station at least once a day to see if the doors are open and the guys are out. They always have a friendly smile and hello, and field any questions she's brave enough to ask them. We cheer super loud for them in the Brookfield 4th of July parade every year. The Cook County Clerk's office in Maywood has instituted a new policy - you MUST have an…read moreappointment if you intend to acquire birth or death certificates or marriage licenses. This is a very new, and little known new rule. There is no sign prior to entry that indicates you MUST have an appointment. That means that members of the uniformed public arrive, with the expectation to wait in line for an available clerk, obtain the certificates needed, pay and leave, as has been the customary ritual. But NOW - if you don't have an appointment, you are either turned away or told to go outside, make a call to the clerk's office - in the moment - and request an appointment. That appointment however may not be an IMMEDIATE appointment. You may receive an appointment that requires you to WAIT - possibly an hour, before you can acquire the certificates you need. If that happens, you are told to SIT AND WAIT IN YOUR CAR - until your allotted time! Really? Having a appointment, however, is still not enough - you need to also have a CONFIRMATION NUMBER for that appointment. If you happen to be a representative from a funeral home that has been sent to pick up death certificates for upcoming services - the confirmation number was likely emailed to the office manager - but not the representative that has driven some distance to the clerk's office. The confirmation number is emailed to the office manager. Whether as a representative of a funeral home - or as a member of the general public - you do not expect to be turned away, told to hang out in the parking lot for how ever long it may be, or have to make a second trip, if your wait time is too long. This is not efficient, friendly, or helpful to the public. Hire more staff to accommodate the needs of the public, as you are there to serve the public.

Stopped by here to drop off my mail in voting ballot. The parking lot was well mapped out and easy…read moreto navigate through. The parking lot was also huge and had plenty of spaces to choose from. They had large signage outside to notify people which building the drop off box was and they were easy to read. There were a few friendly police offers outside the door directing people where to go. Since I was dropping off the ballot my process was super quick and simple. I literally walked into the building and put my ballot in the box. They had another officer inside and what looked like a few volunteers helping direct people also. Everyone inside was wearing masks and there was even a large touch-free hand sanitizer to use at the door. People were respectfully social distancing as well. A woman was holding some stickers by the box to have after dropping off your ballot which was appreciated. Who doesn't love stickers!? They make for the best post-voting photos too also.. everyone know that;) Anyway, super easy voting experience and it felt good to drop off that ballot!
