A great selection of pet supplies with a hometown feel! At Scotts Valley Feed you get great service and reasonable prices to feed just about anything from an aardvark to a rhinoceros, well maybe not either of those but just about any domesticated animal you might have. It's an old barn looking building right on Scotts Valley Drive and it's packed to the walls inside and out. If you need help with heavy items they always have staff on hand to do the lifting. We got a bail of hay the other day and they laid cardboard down in the back of my car and loaded it up to keep the mess down! We have 3 dogs and they are on a grain free diet. They have Taste of the Wild dog food which is high quality, grain free, and the dogs love it. They also have a lot of choices for grain free treats... Pro pet tip: the pine pellets horse bedding makes an awesome and inexpensive substitute for pet litter. We use it for our dogs and pigs litter box. It also helps to keep mud down in your yard so put it places where your beasts would normally track mud into the house and your good to go! I live in Felton now was lookong for a certain brand of cat food and I didn't wanna drive all the way to the city. Before going I called them to make sure they have what I'm looking for and when I called they answered right away and told me they have what I need. The store is somewhat small and isles are very narrow, but they carry many different items found at bigger stores. Customer service was also excellent. Definitely recommend this pet store. read more

Everything is expensive, and the clerks seem miserable and unfriendly. Feed prices aren't written anywhere and customers aren't allowed to see what's in stock, but if you ask how much something is or what their options are, the cashiers all but sigh and roll their eyes. I've never felt welcome here and don't like coming. I much prefer General Feed or Westside Feed in Santa Cruz, and even TSC in Watsonville, though the drive is much farther from my house. The people at General & Westside are friendly and helpful, and TSC had the best prices. The good: The chicks I've bought from here have all been gorgeous and healthy. Though customers aren't allowed to view them before buying, I've been consistently pleased with the birds and would buy chicks from Scotts Valley Feed again. I like that the store is open until 4 on Sundays. read more

We come here often and love supporting local. This seems to be a family-owned business where they get to know your name after a while. They are honest and enthusiastic. We have come here for baby chicks, dog supplies, chicken supplies, and horse supplies. The reason I give this place 4 and not 5 stars is because one of the owners has unpredictable moods which makes for our visits to be somewhat unpredictable sometimes as well. read more

This place has EVERYTHING. There is so much stuff in there you have to make 2-3 passes, turn around and go the other way. Dog stuff, cat stuff, hamsters - they have have chickens. What we wanted (bordetella vaccine for kennel cough prevention) they did not have -- but I do not think anyone has it in California, or at least none of the 2-3 places we went (other feed stores) had it. They know their stuff. Met with Mike and Christine as our puppy is a nervous traveler and does not eat well when on vacation. They suggested Stella and Chewy's. All I can say is our pup really likes this and I now think her favorite time of the day is when she gets to eat. That is saying alot for a picky eater. This is a small town feed store that has been recently transitioning over to the owner's children. Everyone who works here is friendly, smart and cares about animals. I've learned so much by shopping here. After learning more about pet food, I asked if they carried a particular brand and the answer was no. But they said they would order it. And they did!! I'm happy to say I can now go in and order my favorite pet foods from them instead of hunting them down online. They started carrying the two different brands regularly and I really appreciate that. I'm in love... this special Pet Store reminds me a little of Olsen Nolte Saddle Shop in San Carlos, and my preteen years spent riding Apache Chief in Woodside... definitely feels like a place with a long history, maybe a feed shop you'd find in Woodside or Portolla Valley... This place has feed for Horses to Chickens to Ducks to Rabbits to Dogs to Kitty cats, and more!* I was looking for a local place to get my kitties their special food and litter ~ and a new brush too.. found this sweet place~ low and behold, they've got it!* Apparently they've been here since early 60s..approx 54+ years, and the current owners about a decade or so said the gal behind the counter.. *~One can really tell this special place is cared for WITH LOVE for their animal feeding business~* read more

I would like to start out with that I am an animal lover. I always appreciate local business and when the owner's are animal lovers too; I get all warm and fuzzy inside. I first discovered this business when I was doing research about our ducks. Yes, I live in down town San Jose. I heard that the city allows 5 or less - Chickens, ducks, turkeys, or geese. Then I found out that you can get laying ducks that can give you just as many eggs as a chicken. At this time I was sold. So before we were going to get our ducks I wanted to get them the best food possible. This food was Mazuri Water Fowl by Purina. I called about 6 feed stores in the area and they didn't have it. Then I called Scott's Valley Feed. The lady (one of the owner's )answered the phone. She said she gets the food for her ducks and they love it. The first time I went there they stayed open later because we got there after closing. Every time I have been there since they always remember us! They always say "This couple drives from San Jose to get their duck feed" They also carry a lot of other special name brands for dogs, cats, etc... They owner's have a black Runner duck that lives outside and a store cat named E.T.. Both of these animals were rescued. The cat was found in a hay shipment they received and his were still closed. They bottled feed him and then kept him at the store. The duck had a limp when it was a baby so the owner carried her in a fanny pack until the duck was better. I like to take the time to visit this store. The customer service is excellent. read more

Such cuteness resides here, besides the namesake grain. A big banner graces the fence with " Pick-up Chicks Here" I wish they could keep longer hours in the summer, as last eve I swung by around 6 and they were closed like much of Scott's Valley business corridor. Worth the hoof. read more

We shop here all the time. So many things to say but just have to appreciate their ability to work through issues. We have had some weird special orders and though they did not work the way I had wanted the owners always were good at following through and resolving things. I also love the staff - who all know our dog and call him their little mascot. I have a terrible time remembering what I came in for the second I get to the counter and begin petting one of the store cats - who always seems to be on the front counter. But no one gets mad at me or impatient. Well, they do not show they are mad anyways! HAHA I also love that they often have convenient sized things on rotation throughout the year. Like my dogs less than 4 pounds, I dont want to buy a case. I can often get a single can and see if he likes it. (Some places only sell the more expensive stuff by the case.) Quite the investment if you have a tiny picky dog. Love the farm environment and that they have store kitties. They are adorable. :) read more

Great people, great products, good location. We regularly pick up waterfowl maintenance pellets to feed local ducks. Only reason for loss of a star is because they package feed in absurdly thin paper bags that puncture/tear with the slightest contact...it's hard to even get to the car without poking a hole in it, and forget about storing in these bags. Better bags=5 stars. Until then a great shop....just bring a bucket to carry your feed. read more

I'll never go to a commercial pet store as long as this store is here. For one, their cat food is actually /cheaper/ than at Petsmart. Also, almost all of the brands they stock are great quality. I'm hugely picky about our cat's food -- I'm there checking all the ingredients and all the nutrition facts -- and many of SVF's foods pass my inspection. We've also gotten chickens here before to good results, and I bought everything for my bunny here, until he died (at 13 years old, so SVF's products are doing something right!) I don't usually come in with special requests or inquiries, because we don't have many high maintenance pets. The only time I did so was when our kitty tore up his carpal pads badly somehow. I went and described the problem, and they recommended a bunch of first aid stuff, and his carpal pads healed right up asap! read more

This is a great pet store. I love their selection in organic products and hard to find dog food lines. The staff is super helpful and friendly and can recommend products for allergy prone dogs. My pit bull has skin allergies and digestive issues. I buy a dog food that is sold somewhere else, but I buy all of his omega oils, treats and shampoos from this store. I was referred to this business by a Vetrinary office because my dogs neede a flu vaccination to be boarded and I couldnt get an appointment in time. I was told I could get them vaccinated there without an exam. I contacted the store and was told that I coukd bring my pups in " anytime " for the shots. When I brought them to the business I was then told this WASN'T the case but I could purchase the 5 in one Vaccination and I could administer it my self...I explained to all three employees present that the vaccination was the flu vax needed for boarding. ...I purchased 2 doses of the vax I was told I was needed and left. When I went to bring my dogs to the kennel on Saturday was told this was the Incorrect flu vax and they couldnt take my dogs. This resulted in multiple cancellations of plans and was costley. The employees there are uneducated and are selling products that are the wrong ones and take no responsibility for the meds they sell. When I imformed them.of the problem I was told by one of the employees rhat do not have access to the priper vax...yet she was right there and listened to the conversation when I was told the wrong meds...AVOID this place! read more

I can't speak highly enough about Scott's Valley Feed. We drive from Los Gatos to buy Inova food for our dogs. It is a high quality food that is hard to find at regular pet stores. The customer service is outstanding. They have also helped us with our chickens. We purchase all of our straw, feed, and chickens from this locally owned business. I love this store and Christine the owner is awesome! I was trying to raise 3 baby chicks. One was not doing well. I took it to the vet several times and I don't even want to tell you how much I spent on vet bills. I told Christine about the sick chick and she gave me some advice. I could not believe it but after following her advice within days my little chick was well and now that same chick is almost two years old and she is the leader of the pack. I come here for organic duck and chicken feed. It's cheap at $3.25 for 5 pounds. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. When our chicks were sick, they steered us toward some medicated chick starter, and now all of our chicks are just fine again! I tried to buy some americauna chicks at SVF a few weeks ago, but their shipment had been cancelled somehow, so they gave us a free bag of chick starter feed and directed us to another feed store in Santa Cruz that had americaunas in stock. In fact, they were so helpful that I felt bad about taking my business to another store. I will continue to be a patron at this store. read more
