Went there looking for a good steak. Ordered a 10 oz filet medium rare with mixed veggies. Service was prompt, food was not. Finally came, meat was medium well, salad had wilted lettuce, semi frozen cucumber, Texas toast was thin and soaked in grease, veggies also soaked in grease and some sweet tasting syrup. Couldn't eat the toast or veggies. Meat was tough only ate half and had to stop. Went for dinner after reading thr reviews. Had the double cheeseburger with all the fixings along with fries. I asked for medium cook but got borderline burnt (it did have a burnt taste). Fries were warm. Total with tax and tip was about $20. I would recommend going here but do not recommend burger. The waitress was very friendly. Th restaurant itself is very loud because the walls are siding and no sound absorbing. They had a side door open will allowed humidity in and therefore the AC ducts were sweating and creating puddles on the floor. read more

Honestly a good little place. It has a great small town home feel. They have a very affordable menu and everyone seemed to love it. I had their grilled teriyaki chicken with pineapple, and would definitely eat it again. They seem to be very first responder friendly so if you appreciate your first responders you can go there and see the uniform patches. read more

Sometimes, the true soul of a restaurant can be revealed to you without having tasted a bite of their food. Today, my wife, daughter (2.5 years old), and I stopped into Scott's for a meal after a morning at the Discovery Park. We were excited to try the pizza and potatoes, but my toddler had other ideas. After going to the restroom with my wife, my daughter threw a massive fit in the middle of the restaurant. She was crying, hitting, screaming...basically every parent's worst nightmare. I knew that if we didn't calm her down, the cold beers that I had ordered for my wife and I would remain in their bottles to be consumed by the trashcan. Unfortunately, that was the case. My daughter wouldn't calm down and we had to leave the restaurant. Before that, the staff at Scott's tried everything they could to help calm my little one down. They offered her a snow cone, ice cream, and even an chance to wear one of the cool Fireman hats they had. While none of these things worked, it showed that the staff at Scott's is thoughtful and understanding. They never told us to leave or gave us snarky looks with the expectation that we would do so. They simply did the human thing: they tried to help. As we left, cold beers on the table desiring nothing more than to be enjoyed, they even sent a small snow cone out with my wife with the hope that my daughter would calm down for the hour drive ahead of us. She didn't receive that lovely, icey treat, as I don't believe in reward for acting up. She will one day though, as the next time I come to Union City, Scott's Grill will be our meal destination - even if I have to endure a cranky toddler to get it. Thank you to the staff for trying your best and showing that the soul of a restaurant isn't always with the food, but with the people that make it. read more

This restaurant has recently moved from the VERY small place they had, to a much larger establishment down town Union City, in the former "Station". I was pleased that they kept the Station's "salute to heroes" decor. Meanwhile, the food is fresh made and good stuff. read more

Yesterday on the way home I stopped at Tractor Supply, and since Scott's Grill is on 1st St. (the next street), I gave it a try. I did not know what to expect, but I had seen the menu online, so I knew it was not a dump (probably). It is actually in the lineup of stores we call the old downtown, across from where the old theater is (I bet it is packed when there are plays there). But it is totally renovated in terms of the building--still has the old character but is spiffy and clean. It seats 50, a nice size. Tables run the whole length (for 4), and all the seating is diner-style with chrome. There is a long counter where you can sit and watch all the kitchen action, so I sat there and I very much recommend it. I would call it Blue Collar Ritz, perfectly done. The owner must be a fireman (or retired) as there is a fireman's motif all around--trophies, insignia, pieces of equipment. At first I wondered if I had ventured into somebody else's club lair, but it is not at all cliquish in that respect--everybody is cordially welcomed and you get the feel of a corner neighborhood cafe, professionally done, not just a firemen's hangout. They have a large charcoal (gas powered) grill for steaks, hamburgers and big chicken filets (might call them chicken steaks), next to a flat iron griddle which was used for toasting buns or Texas toast. The main cook for the grill (with one helper) was cooking up 10 or 15 chicken steaks at the time, and cooked my cheeseburger. The chicken servings are put in warmers for fast service as ordered. Burgers are generous and hand made, with charcoal flavor from the smoking grill. They come with fries, which look crispy and nicely brown rather than squishy, but when I asked for sliced tomatoes instead, she gave me a plate of them. They have other sandwiches, and salads, steaks, and three different chicken entrees. I saw them making a large carry out baked potato--they cut it in big chunks, smushed them a bit, and topped it with several things (including bacon), and I think that was meant to be a meal, as it filled the plate. Then they have very modern versions of pizza ovens, compact and stacked (two or three of those). One woman was hand tossing fresh dough and making a large pizza, half one way and half another. They have two convection ovens stacked, and the manager or owner was directing helpers to sauce and season big slabs of barbecue ribs cooked in pans in those ovens. There were two terrific looking homemade cakes in display cases on the counter--my waitress said the owner's wife makes those. I got there about 4 or 4:30, so it was not busy--three tables and me--but the five workers were all busy as bees. Yet they worked slowly and carefully over each little thing--a good sign in itself. Eating there will run $10 to $20, or a little more or less. I did not see ribs on the menu, so I guess they run specials. Many people who open their own restaurant do not know what they are doing, but I suspect this fireman has a first rate manager who knows the business. It may not be the best chef food ever, but the food is quite good and the venue fascinating. For Blue Collar Ritz (my category) it is A+. read more
