Parents, Do Your Research "Our family had an experience with Dr. Christopher Carillo that was serious enough for us to file a formal complaint with the Dental Board of California. We trusted this office to provide gentle, compassionate care for our child, yet what we experienced was the opposite. Parents were denied the ability to be present despite our child being scared. My child was in pain and asking for comfort, yet was instead told to be quiet. Instead of reassuring my child, staff were talking about haunted houses during the procedure. We paid extra for a pain-free experience, yet my child felt everything. The aftermath left our child distressed and afraid of trusting medical providers. No one reached out to check on us despite being assured they would. Parents deserve to know that they have options beyond just leaving a review--formal complaints can be filed when necessary. He had cavities and in order to have the work done, he needed the gas. Past experience left me a bit traumatized but Dr. Fishman's office took that away. What a relief! After finding out that my three year old needed extensive dental work, my anxiety was through the roof. THANK God we found Dr. Fishman. He gave us the option of using oral sedation, and as a parent I was much more comfortable with that than iv sedation or general anethesia, although he assured me that all avenues would be safe. Both him and his staff were absolutely wonderful throughout the whole procedure. The office is clean, and they space out clients well enough that you don't feel like you're just another number. You truly do feel like Dr. Fishman cares about you as a patient. He made me feel comfortable that my son would be taken care of. As a parent of a special needs child, I am constantly worrying about things that haven't happened yet. For example, when my son had two loose teeth, I was already dreading our trip to the dentist to get his teeth pulled out. I was already psyching myself up for a miserable afternoon. X rays were done pretty quick , Doctor Fishman did not sugar coat anything and was direct on what was needed to be done for my children's teeth. My son had abscess and ended up in the hospital. While at the hospital, they told me a dentist would need to remove the abscess as soon as possible to prevent my son from becoming sepsis from the infection. Someone in my mom's of Downey group recommended this dentist and I called and left a message for him on a Sunday. Mind you, my son was not his patient at the time. The dentist called me back that same day and scheduled my son the next morning to have the abscess removed even with my son not being his patient. Very disappointed with the whole experience especially since I searched for a long time for a good dental pediatrician and heard good things about this place. I decided to put my daughter under anesthesia which was not an easy decision, for any parent, im sure. Day of we actually had the appt with Dr. Fishman which was not the doctor who first saw my daughter but I have heard everyone was great which we did not mind at all. After waiting 2 hours to be actually seen, again did not mind, he finished his work in an hour. Fast but Dr has a lot of experience. Same day filing came off and I noticed an indentation on the canine and one of the crowns does not looks right. Also, I have experience in the dental field but of course not something I mention right away. Filing is off, canine has an indentation that was not filled, and her crown looks very irritated. My husband took my daughter in and they don't give her anythingto relax her, even though thats there motto to have a stress-free experience. She yells through the whole thing and only fills the canine cause my husband again mentions it. Checks the crown and says she picked at it and its fine. I have pictures that will say otherwise and the day of her appt we made sure her hands were not in her mouth. I honestly felt if i was not on Medicare I would have had a better experience and unfortunately people have hardships, and I was unlucky to need dental work done before getting a PPO or HMO. Not only that I did pay $850 for the anesthesiologist which I didn't mind because I don't want my daughter having a traumatic experience hence the irony. Also, dr was very condenscing with me and my husdand after the intial appointment. My daughter will be going back for the crown again but after will be looking for another pediatrician. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Fishman's office for about 5 years now. He has seen my youngest 3. Not only is this office beautiful and clean, but the staff is very professional and on top of everything including appointments and school notes. My daughter went in for a frenectomy today and Dr. Fishman explained the procedure with great detail and provided thorough post care information. Alrighty, so after a horrible time with my toddler at West Coast Dental, I was desperately searching for a new dentist. The bad news here is that it took my insurance like 6 months to work out a referral, for a "Specialist" but that's not their problem, just an issue if I went to see ANY specialist. So coming here will be work, again, but it's well worth it. They are extremely fast. We were seen so quick, in and out. The last office I went to took like two hours, the first hour spent entirely in the waiting room, then waiting in the chair for ages. They also are very friendly here. They are kind and they gave me daughter stickers right after we had a room so she had something to look at and play with. There was also a TV on the ceiling but my daughter wasn't so interested in that. They also are breast feeding friendly, and don't tell you to wean or stop night nursing, but to just be aware that any milk left on the teeth (especially at night) could cause cavities- it's the reality but they don't shame you for it. He said that personally, I am doing a perfect job, brushing her teeth every night, and generally her teeth look perfect. What a relief from everyone who's told me she's too old to be breastfeeding (17 months) and I need to stop or I'm ruining her teeth. To look at her teeth, he did this technique where I held her in my lap, with her legs around my waist, then we touched knees, and I held her arms. Sort of like lying her across a little bridge or bench that out legs made. It allowed me to have a good control of her, and she did cry, but I didn't feel so helpless, and he got a really good look at her teeth. At the end they gave us a toothbrush and a plastic tiara, and some more stickers. Because it's a Specialist office, I will have to get referrals from her old crappy office, or I will have to find out how to do it "through insurance" like everyone says I can (although they keep giving me the run around), or maybe I'll have to keep making appointments with her pediatrician and seeing what she can do for me- although making a pediatric appointment every time she needs the dentist seems like a waste of the doctor's time.. Overall, my only problems are with the insurance Dr Fishman and his staff are very kind and attentive. Absolutely worth the five mile drive from Whittier. Thank you read more

The Dr and Staff are so wonderful here. The care and service you receive here is top tier. They space out there clients appropriately so that you don't have a long wait time when you arrive. The whole office is patient and caring. My kid is difficult to get X-rays but this office was able to get them, and my kid came back saying it was easy. We came here for a 2nd opinion and thank God we did! Prior to coming here, we were going to a pediatric dentist in Long Beach who suggested we sedate my 5 yr old son via IV sedation in a hospital setting due to his weight, in order to get two crowns and some sealants done. My husband and I didn't feel comfortable going through with IV sedation and wanted to try the laughing gas first but they denied our request. We therefore decided to get another opinion and luckily we did! We came to Pediatric Dental arts and were seen by Dr. Fishman and guess what?! My son only needed two fillings and sealants, he didn't need any crowns like our prior dentist said. He had his dental work done today with the laughing gas and is doing great. He was scared about getting his fillings but Dr. Fishman and his team made him feel super comfortable! Don't hesitate and bring your children here! You won't regret it. Found this place on yelp and the reviews match the service. Everyone was friendly and informational and it was a quick process from beginning to end. We took our 2 year old daughter for her first dentist appointment and it was relieving to see how easy Dr. Fishman made the experience. Our daughter just got a cleaning and flossing, and some fluoride at the end. They gave her stickers and a toothbrush, toothpaste, and some floss picks to take home.
