We've had Chris come out to our 1950's era house a few times to help us with our heating here…read morebefore the cold season sets in. The work we had him do involved re-fitting some radiator pipes for a new radiator, installing a Slantfin 30 radiator, removing a cast iron radiator, and capping off some un-used branches from our HW heating system. Chris came, gave us an estimate of the level of effort and worked with us as had some project hiccups and scheduling issues we encountered. I appreciate that the whole time Chris was very honest about how much time parts of the job would take, what his rate was and how he passed on materials costs. I always take it as a good sign when a contractor is very honest and communicative - two things Chris excels at. He showed up on time, ready to work and worked steadily. After he was finished with the radiator install, he fired up the boiler and helped us bleed the air out of the system, taking his time to ensure the boiler filled properly, fired up, and started to heat our home. He also wanted to test the radiator he had installed for us to ensure that most of all, his work was done correctly. I appreciated his attention to detail and willingness to stick around and ensure the job was done correctly. Overall, we found Chris to be an awesome guy, and a reliable and knowledgable plumber. We will be going to him for all of our plumbing needs for years to come.

If I could, I'd give 5 stars for repair and 1 star for service…read more Service: Over the years I've tried several times to schedule routine maintenance, and every time the wait is 4+ months -- basically making it impossible to get seasonal maintenance done unless you book a year in advance. After paying for a repair estimate, the technician told me the best solution for my issue was to keep up with routine maintenance. On that basis, I was sold a Comfort360 support plan at $40/month, which states in the contract: "Provider will provide you with priority service in scheduling your maintenance and emergency repair appointments over non-Comfort 360 customers." Nevertheless, Nicholson informed me that the AC maintenance appointment I'd scheduled in April would remain in August and couldn't be pulled in by even a single day. Unless every appointment booked through August is for a Comfort360 customer, they are clearly not giving Comfort360 customers priority. You can verify this yourself by scheduling maintenance on their website -- whether you indicate you're a member or not, you're given the same service dates. If you're going to sell a premium service plan, you ought to carve out dedicated appointment slots for members rather than sharing a common pool between members and non-members. Repair: I've used Nicholson for both plumbing and HVAC repairs and have always found the technicians to be honest and fair when describing my options. This stands in contrast to some providers that try to sell products and services the customer doesn't need.

    Rodenhiser

They saved the day!…read more We had a new dishwasher installed by a local appliance company and when the installers left we were worse off than before they installed the new dishwasher. The appliance company left us with an actively leaking water line and a broken discharge line into our sink. I called Rodenhiser the next morning at 7:30 and was greeted by a great lady. Rodenhiser had someone at our house within 3 hrs. They explained the issues and cost, we agreed, and they fixed everything. All set by 1:00 in the afternoon. We have used these folks 2 other times - all very good experiences. Not the low cost provider but totally worth it!

We hired Rodenhiser about a decade ago to install a forced-air HVAC system; at the time, our home…read morehad radiant heat. The experience during installation was extremely negative. Midway through the job, we had a major dispute because the original plan stated that the system would not take up as much garage space as it ultimately did. When we raised the issue, they threatened to stop the job, walk away, and leave it unfinished. They left the site and did not return until we went to their office to speak directly with a manager. By that point, there was nothing they could do to fix the situation. They essentially told us it was up to us whether to continue with them or hire someone else to take over the work. Their attitude changed completely once we had paid the deposit and the job had started--they were rude, dismissive, and acted as if they no longer cared, assuming we were stuck. We chose to let them finish simply so we would never have to deal with them again. A couple of years later, while installing recessed lighting, we discovered that portions of the ductwork had never been properly sealed at the joints. Many joints were loosely connected and incorrectly taped, and one joint had come completely apart, allowing air to pour through. Properly sealed ductwork is critical for efficiency, yet it was clear the system had been installed with little attention to detail or performance. We did not contact Rodenhiser to complain, as it would have been a waste of time and energy. Any future issues would be handled by another company; their labor warranty is meaningless if it requires dealing with them again. About a decade later, in December 2025, we upgraded to a heat pump installed by a different company. The contrast was striking. The new company communicated clearly, worked carefully, and followed proper procedures. They posted the permit on site and coordinated town inspections for both the electrical work and the system installation. This made me realize that I did not recall seeing a permit or inspectors when Rodenhiser performed the original forced-air installation. I checked with the town and confirmed that Rodenhiser never pulled a permit for the conversion from radiant heat to a forced-air system--a permit that is mandatory for this type of work. This discovery raises serious concerns and further reinforces why this company should not be trusted to work in people's homes. Anyone considering hiring them should take a close look at their reviews and ratings. If someone reads those reviews and still chooses to hire them, they should be prepared for serious problems. I only wish we had done more research before hiring them ten years ago. Since then, I felt disgusted every time seeing their van on the road with their business name remind me of rodent short for rodenhiser. And every time I saw their van parked outside someone's house, I felt sorry for the person in that house.
