A few months ago I needed a root canal and was referred to Dr. Barry by my primary dentist. I was not in pain, so did not mind the 3 weeks that it took to get in to see him. I was able to get the root canal done just a few days afterwards, so no problems there. Dr. Barry is super personable and my procedure was virtually pain free. His assistants ( I met 2) were very nice and made my experience the best that it could have possibly been under the circumstances. So why the 3 stars? The 3 women at the front desk are just...cold and unpleasant to deal with. Never have I met less friendly and accomodating front office staff at a dental office. I am shocked that Dr. Barry, given his personality, allows for such attitude from the people who are the face of his practice. I am also taking a star off because his fees are pretty high. He does not offer cash discounts and almost $500 for the initial exam is just too much, in my opinion. read more

Dr Barry and staff are truly amazing. I had previously been seen by a different endodontist who looked at my tooth for two seconds and told me there was no hope. She said I would need to undergo crown lengthening procedure first. Granted my tooth was very broken down but my top notch general dentist disagreed and referred me to Dr. Barry. He was honest and said it might be a little tricky but it can be done. I decided we might as well try to save the tooth otherwise I'd be looking at extraction and a costly implant. The procedure was totally painless and actually relaxing.... I know that sounds weird but true. I was prescribed amoxicillin for infection around the bottom of the roots which I took along with ibuprofen and now I'm ready for a crown prep at my general dentist's office. They will scam you saying they accept your insurance, accept the "pre-authorized" balance in full and then will bill out of network and you'll be left to pay the rest. I called them to discuss and they said "sorry nothing we can do about it" and sent my bill to collections who is now filing a lawsuit in small claims court. Absolute disgraceful business practices. My dentist at Sherwood Dental recommended that I see Dr.Scott Barry and his staff at Advanced Endodonicts after putting on a temporary crown on one of my top molars.. This tooth was very decayed, hot and very cranky, Dr Barry assured me that we will take care of this problem and he did. . He did say it was pretty bad but he managed to save it, I am most grateful to him and Sarah for what they did. They both work fantastic together, their fast, very efficient, and are most compassionate about being as painless as possible. I was left with a tooth post root canal that has hurt in one way or another since it was done. :( Dr Barry is nice, he did look at me again for free but said it seemed fine. And did another cat scan. However! I still get shooting pains from it. AND recently one quarter of the crown he had to drill through chipped off which cost me $1300. I wrote and called several times asking for at least a partial refund. They called to say call us so we can start towards that. I called and emailed asking for the refund - but now they wont call me back. I would go to a lawyer if I could on this. It's just not right - a ruined tooth and now I am out not just $1300 for root canal that has failed but also another $1300 to fix the crown it broke. I do not recommend. read more

Scott Barry referred my account to a collections agency called QCI that harassed me with phone calls repeatedly at work and served me papers to my neighbor so now my entire home community thinks that I'm a deadbeat. QCI has now filed against me in court and I have to go to Hillsboro small claims to fight it. I had zero communication from the office about the outstanding balance and now I have damage to my credit and have to hire an attorney to protect my credit and my rights. This was my first time here and everyone in this office is AMAZING!!! I called yesterday with an emergency tooth situation and needed a root canal. Dr Donna Mattscheck is amazing. She helped my adult son with his 'dentist anxiety' all the way through a root canal. She and her assistant covered all the bases... Kindly and patiently explained options for nitrous oxide and other suggestions to manage anxiety, asked what he needed all the way through, talked and made great conversation (appropriate to the task at hand) and even checked in with him to see if he would like them to stop talking lol. Great sense of humor and just extremely accommodating in every way. My son was so pleased and frankly amazed how easy they made the experience for him. Their pricing is very fair, they worked with our insurance carrier and gave me an estimate of cost ahead of time and then the actual Cost was a little lower. I could have had this all this time? I'm so giddy still, 9 hours after a extensive root canal fix that was botched by another Dentist( which I won't mention except his practice is in Newberg OR ) Dr. Donna Mattscheck and her lovely and very competent Assistent were a perfect team. Very personable and down to earth. This was the first time I had been there and was referd by my Dentist whom I've had nothing but good things to say about, French sounding in Sherwood....any way, I'm very happy, my consensus is I was blessed today, not by God, I don't even believe ...no really, it was fun and very entertaining. The confidence levels emminated so effortlessly at every level, I was so nervous in the waiting room, I didn't realize it until I left. They charged me twice for consultation and then put me on collection after I explained them multiple times I should not be double charged. I was never in my life on collections. On February 11th Dr. Scott Barry and Holly performed a root canal on my #2 molar which, it turns out, has four roots. This tooth is an upper molar far in the back, It could have been a grueling procedure but not at Advanced Endodontics I'm happy to say. Lizzie up front had fit me in for this appointment sooner than expected, it was perfect timing, and I was glad to get my tooth worked on before it flared up again. She welcomed me like an old friend though I'd only had two evals previously, I really enjoy this office and their highly skilled friendly staff. Holly brought me back to a beautiful room with a great view and explained the procedure and took x-rays. I was very much at ease and confident that I was in good hands to get this challenging root canal done in their high tech offices by excellent specialists. Dr. Barry set me further at ease, explaining things, (everybody there is really very nice) and soon the two of them were performing a well choreographed procedure finishing my root canal without a hitch and without me feeling any pain, except a pinch with the second and last shot before it started. I felt I got out of the chair in record time, and three weeks later my tooth is perfect with it's new crown atop the root canal. I hope if I have another root canal in the future that I can get into Dr. Barry's Chair again. I give Advanced Endodontics my highest rating. read more

Dr. Barry is the best of the best! This was not my first root canal (unfortunately), so I had an idea of what to expect. The procedure was quick and painless. I was out the door in less than 90 minutes (mostly because we were chatting). I expected to go home, be numb for hours and be extremely tender the next few days, but I am happy to report that less then 4 hours following my procedure I am in virtually NO PAIN. My tooth went from absolutely excruciating pain (9/10 on the pain scale.. I was taking 2 vicodin at a time.. OUCH) to ready to go to bed without so much as an Advil.. I have to say that this was such a great dental experience I've ever had. First of all, the staff is hands down the best staff. They are so kind and caring. The office is super clean and the view was not too shabby either. I had a very bad tooth abscess. The side of my face was so swollen and I was in so much pain. My dentist said I needed a root canal....yikes! I called on a Thursday and they were able to see me the next day in the morning. So great! They saw what shape I was in and quickly went to work with getting me some relief from my pain. The root canal treatment was so quick and honestly painless. My friends were trying to scare me with all these horror stories about root canals, but those stories were no match to Dr. Emily Case. I felt zero pain. Dr. Case and the dental assistant (I feel terrible for forgetting her name) were so in sync during the procedure. It was awesome. It's been about 2 hours now since my procedure and I feel great, no pain at all. Thank you to all the staff. I highly recommend this office to anyone who needs a root canal. read more

I had root canal therapy recently with Dr Case and Christy as assistant. I am a chicken when it comes to dental work, but they were very appreciative of that and took the best care. I started with white knuckles and clenched fists expecting the pain to start at any moment. It never did. From the shots through the procedure I never felt a thing. I was instructed to take Ibuprofen for a couple of days regardless of pain, so I did that. I literally never even had a slight ache....no sensitivity...nothing. The worst thing I can say about the whole experience is that finding parking was a bit of a chore until I realized there was more parking on the other side of the building. After that, everything was smooth. The procedure was easy (from my point of view) and the relief immediate. Because I have a bad reaction to most dental anaesthetics, my dentist had made sure they knew the type I needed, and it was on hand -- the problem was a tooth under a bridge, so the procedure was a bit tricky technically, I believe. Office staff was easy to deal with; dentist and assistants were calm, professional, and focused and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. A friend became a dental-phobe after a rather brutal root canal experience 40 years ago, and needed that same tooth re-treated after all this time. Dr. Barry explained the entire procedure and friend came away from the procedure amazed at how easy and gentle it was now. Friend uses a wheelchair to get around; the staff made the transfer to the dental chair easy and dignified. read more

I went to see them for a broken tooth. They cleaned up the tooth and medicated it and sent me to an oral surgeon to remove the tooth. I received a bill from them for those services for $500. The actual removal of the tooth by another surgeon was cheaper!! This is outrageous. This is the first time I've ever used Yelp and I'm going to start using it more often to learn about things such as this. read more

I had a real bad feeling from the minute I walked into his nice - expensive office. I came in to get advise and for to look at a already diagnosed cracked tooth. After wisking me into the exam room, he advised me that I needed a root canal. He "pressured" me into doing the work right away. Within minutes he was drilling and "prying" my mouth open. After an hour of very bad pain, he was done. They then wisked me back into the rececption area and imformed me I had to pay $1,200.00 - NOW. At NO time did he or his staff ever notify me of how much the costs were. I felt extreme pressure from his nasty staff. They seemed more concerned about collecting the money than my health. Terrible experience. Almost a year later the tooth still hurts and now have no other option than to pull the tooth. This "doctor" does very bad work and over charges in order to pay for a flat screen i& leather couches in his waiting area.STAY AWAY. read more
