I'd reviewed this spot when it was a Spar and I'm excited to review it now it's had a refurb and a rebrand.
The only real downside of this shop is the car park can be a bit of a pain when it's busy (e.g. Saturday morning). Best park on one of the side streets. There's a free cash machine out the front.
Inside, it's decorated a bit like a gourmet deli and stocks some pretty decent stuff. Sure, it's a wee corner store and a chain but I'm impressed what they've done with the place and its obviously very popular with the locals. I was just in to grab the newspaper and a couple of drinks but I spent a bit of time ogling the patisserie section (mostly all gone by 10am) and then the baked items in the warmer (mmm pasties). They also have Drygate beers for £2. Staff are friendly and kind, and overall there isn't much not to like about this shop.
They're open 6am - 11pm every day and I'll be sure to make a special visit to this wee shop more often in the future. read more
