I'll start by saying that, up until last week, I frequented this place for my service that I didn't, or couldn't, do at home. I have been a backyard mechanic for over 40 years and have some familiarity with a car. Nevertheless, when I needed help they were always there and provided prompt quality service and were always honest. I would probably still recommend them for alignment and tire service. But I would still advise people to be wary of any garage and now have reservations here. The only reason there are two stars on this review is because they have been great in the past and recently did a quality alignment for me. However, on my most recent visit, Aug. 2024, I didn't receive the typical excellent service. I'll start by saying that I didn't recognize anyone there that day even though I have been there at least once a year for years. I went in for an inspection and was cited over $500 to lubricate all of my brakes. I had just replaced my rear brakes in July including polishing and greasing the sliders. I had the further opportunity to examine all of the brakes when I flushed all of the brake fluid. Everything was working fine. The mechanic argued with me about this telling me that the brake pads need to be able to move with just your fingers once they are spread in order to pass inspection. This is, in fact, not the case for modern floating calipers. The caliper has to be able to move freely on the sliders but the pads are retained with springs to avoid rattling and banging and do not move easily (it might have been the case in the 60s and 70s). I'll further mention that I thought maybe they had a point about my front brakes because they are a fixed caliper and I hadn't lubricated them. When I pulled the first one I realized they were just wrong. While the pads didn't move easily with my fingers they did move without too much effort. Removing them, and cleaning and greasing the springs, and pins, and ends of the pads didn't really change things much. They moved as easily as a good sliding caliper does though. Further, that entire job was about 20 minutes using a floor jack working on the ground. I was a little confused that, even if everything was to be cleaned, greased, and freed up with no parts (my estimate over $500 mentioned above) what was going to take them so long. They didn't state how many hours but for that much straight labour I would have assumed about 4. That's ridiculous. I got the inspection completed with no additional fees a week later at a large reputable location. Finally, I hope that it's clear that this review is being written as a complaint, which many are. I, like many, probably enjoyed quality service from this location for years. Take any review as an individuals experience and make good choices! read more

I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to the folks at Scotia Tire's Robie St. location. We had a flat tire in late April and were told by several shops that they wouldn't be able to help us anytime soon, as all of them were extremely busy with tire changeovers, etc. This worried us as we were from out-of-town and had to get home. Luckily, Scotia Tire helped us out and had our tire fixed in a day. On top of that, they refused payment as they apparently have a 'flats fixed for free' policy. This astounded me! I recently had to get an alignment done for the vehicle. I choose to go to Scotia Tire on Robie St. I did book the appointment a few days ahead. I arrived and they were on schedule. My appointment was for 10:00 am, I was in and out by 10:45 with an alignment and wheel rotation. I have to say, this place was busy. It was like a revolving door. I could tell this place has regulars, One man brought in his wheel barrel wheel. I could not believe it, they told him to go and get a new tire and tube, bring it back and they would put it on for him. Being close to work I often drop off my car here for just stop in to ask them a question. The guys there are really great and will always answer with smile. Normally I will drop the car for an oil change and I am very picky as to when I take my car in to places as there is always a mat of the floor and some form of grease happens to get on my seat's. Well these guys are clean when they do my oil changes and it is very convenient. The price of the oil change itself is average at $35 bucks which is in caparison to others but I like the convenience and you know what they say. You pay for it. read more

I recently had an unfortunate incident with a nail and my tire. While it's never fun or convenient getting a flat tire, I did need to get a new set of tires in the near future. Being a bit budget conscious (read: kind of cheap) I phoned around to a couple of different places to price out a basic set of all season tires. I drive by the Scotia Tire on the Bedford highway every day so so I was stoked to find out they had another location in my hood. They had the best price of all the places I called and the staff was super helpful and friendly. The way they operate is a bit hectic- it's first come firsts served for appointments and I just kind of handed over my keys and phone number and left. About an hour and a half later they called to say my car was ready- not too shabby. The counter guy was super friendly and let me know that they do free tire rotations. The best part? I'm not going to have to get a second job to pay for the new tires. Score! read more

A set of 4 winter tires just installed on my vehicle. Price was competitive with the big retail stores (i.e. Costco) and they were installed the same day vs. waiting 2 weeks. Why would anyone shop at the big box stores when you have competitive prices and great service right in the neighbourhood. read more

Had an appointment to purchase and install 4 new tires. Left work, dropped my car off, was told it would be about an hour, I went back 2 hours later with a plan to sit and wait - my car was still parked where I left it, untouched. Got my keys back and left. Not sure why I tried to go to a local shop instead of costco this time, but lesson learned. Terrible service. read more

This spring I had my tires changed from winters to summers and the following week an alignment done. Sounds pretty easy task for a tire shop. Within minutes of taking my car and hitting the highway a hubcap flew off hitting another vehicle. A trip to NB and another hubcap flew off again hitting a brand new vehicle with temporary stickers no less. My car now has two hubcaps and two tires without same. Thanks Scotia Tire for the look! In November/2015 I got 4 blizack winter tires and got them to install them all seemed to be fine with the job and product. So fast forward 6 months to this week I purchased 4 new summer tires from them May/2016 and brought my car in to get them installed this week. My car had no issues with air leakage in any of the new winter tires since the install. I was happy as these guys had the lowest prices by a hundred bucks or so. I get my car back the same day with the spare installed and one of my rims in the trunk with a cracked rim and told to take it and get it fixed myself and bring it back to them. Damaged rims happen i know, I've owned aftermarket rims and I know cracks can happen. But my experience is that a cracked rim leads to air leakage. sometimes slow, sometimes fast. I'm not saying they damaged my rim, but without more information I don't have an alternate explanation how it would have happened since Nov to May and had no air leakage at all in those 6 months. The car has a sensitive electronic tire pressure monitoring system that before today showed all green for the last 6 months. Of course as anyone would I tried to find information about the process of changing wheels and how likely is damage to occur during the process. I read online that the machines used to change wheel if not used correctly by the operator can cause all kinds of damage to rims and cracking is also possible. So without any more information from the garage I feel that they have not supplied a sufficient reason or any at all for the damage to my rim as vs. the working condition the car was brought into the shop hours before. Subsequently I think the customer experience would have been much improved by Scotia Tire having sent the rim out to be fixed and let me know when to come back. Instead the experience felt more like, we got your money now and here is your rim, it's broke by the way, see ya. It was not a good feeling at all. read more

worst place to take your truck for a alignment! i had my truck recently serviced and had purchased brand new all terrain tires, i had them installed and came to scotia tire robbie st for my alignment. spoke with the mechanic regarding my alignment and he assured me everything was good. the alignment its self is 130 dollars. he finished the alignment and the truck still pulled to the left drivers side a week later i contacted them about it and they booked me their "soonest" apt a week later. due to traffic i was 10 mins late showing up and they told me i have to rebook because i was ten minutes late and they need a full hour to do a digital alignment. the first time they did the alignment i was in and out in under a half hour. i sat on the phone in front of the store on hold for 15 mins before the manager came outside and asked if she could assist me and i told her what the issue was and again scheduled the apt for four days later again i was ten minutes late due to a mva incident then sooner tried to rebook and the soonest date they gave me was another week away. i told them my concern and they started telling me its due to my tires, i said they are brand new. they said the spec sheet says its good, i said it still pulls to the left so something must not be good, she said well thats the soonest i can do, so im supposed to scallop new tires because of their *^&^& mechanic not able to do their job? This is the worst place for costumer experiences and by for for horrible craftmanship i will not be sending or recommending any vehicle go there for any type of work. read more

went to my local dealer in halifax to have a tire plugged as i picked up a nail and developed a slow leak. dealer said it could not be repaired and a new tire was 140 and i may need 2 so they would have even wear. i thought this odd so i checked on line and Scotias price was 123 full retail. decided to swing by Scotia on the way home from work with the tire and asked if it could be plugged and patched. This was 430 in the afternoon. the manager, cant remember is name, smiled and said no problem. 25 minutes later Im leaving with a $30 repair instead of over $370 at the dealer. We bought our winter tires from Scotia Tire. First off one of the bolts went on cross threaded which required getting a new bolt put on. Mistakes happen that is cool. But now we find a screw in the tire and ask about the warranty. Well apparently repairs here while under warranty, unlike all other tire shops I have dealt with cost, unless the tire can't be repaired. If that is the case we will have it repaired at a more convenient garage and buy our tires elsewhere next time. That is really odd. read more

Absolutely horrible service. I cannot believe this company is still in business if the experience I had is representative of their norm!

Went in for an alignment and they couldn't do it because a lower ball joint had to be replaced. Fair enough. I had just replaced the other ball joint and figured the other one was good enough but apparently not. They offered to replace it for me but I politely declined, took it back, changed out the ball joint, and booked another appointment. Two weeks pass since the first appointment and I bring it in for the second time. Now once they have looked this time it couldn't be done because there's too much play in the steering column! Now I'll admit, there's some play there and I will change it out, but it's hardly serious and there sure as hell no difference between when I brought it in the first time and the second. If it's going to prevent me from getting the only service I wanted done then why not tell me the first time around? Am I so handsome that the guys there have to keep making crap up so I have to continuously visit? Unfortunately that thought was brought to an abrupt halt when they followed up with telling me my sway bar bushings AND tires needed to be replaced. They also noticed my inspection was due in two weeks; fancy that. My vehicle didn't fall apart in two weeks so there's no good reason that I can think of that these things weren't all picked up on at the same time. Did they not use the steering wheel the first time to drive it up on the hoist the first time? I'm not even mad of that's the case! That's impressive! I'm not even going to question why they were inspecting the ass end of my truck and thanks for the tip on my tires but I have four brand new ones ready to go on but I'm waiting to get a G** D*** alignment done first! Anyway, I can't shake the gut feeling they were fishing for money so I can't go back. The fact that they conveniently have the bill tallied up for all the parts and labour you need done before you even agree to get it done doesn't sit well with me.I suppose it doesn't make any difference anyway because if I apply their rate of deterioration to my truck then it should fall apart and catch on fire in about three weeks... read more
