Located just at the end of Barrington Street, this mechanics shop is both easy to find and a good choice. We got our annual vehicle inspection done here just a couple weeks ago and, even though we weren't pleased with the results, were happy with who helped us. The inspection itself only took about an hour. That's from the time the car was dropped off to the time of the call saying it was ready. We were pretty impressed with the speediness of their business. Sadly, the car had too many problems with it and wasn't necessarily worth fixing. We really appreciated that, when phoned by a mechanic at Todds, we were told exactly what was wrong, approximately how much it would cost and how long it would take. What we truly appreciated was the mechanic telling us it probably wasn't worth to fix. Normally a mechanic will just do the work and take your money, no matter how necessary it was. So now we're in need of a new car, but at least we don't feel cheated by the person doing the inspection. We were satisfied with the result and service at Todds, but certainly not happy about needing a newer car. read more

You couldn't pay me to take my car anywhere else. I found it by accident - had a minor car issue and pulled into the Ultramar on Inglis. They couldn't help me, but the cashier directed me down the street to Todd's, helpfully telling me that they "don't talk to women like they're idiots". Intriguing! I pulled in to the shop and even though they were full a mechanic came out to check the car quickly and get me on my way - no charge, no appointment. I've been there for every car issue since that wasn't covered by the dealership and they've consistently been honest, helpful, quick and friendly. They took the time to explain anything I wasn't sure about and will shop around for parts if needed. Like a good hair stylist, you only need to get burned once to learn the value of a good garage. Great guys to talk to about cars. They will listen and explain things but you still have to know what you are getting yourself into with car repair. Will tell you to replace your hardly used factory rotors with aftermarket Napa rotors without even looking at your factory rotors for condition when you need new brake pads. Bottom line is you really need to know about cars before going to this shop or any shop because if you count on them to teach you. You will be paying allot and getting more work done then you need. BTW the Napa rotors have been nothing but trouble wobbles etc. Replaced under warranty and still wobble. I wish they just left my low km driven factory rotors alone they were fine but I did not know any better and trusted them at the time. PS warranty on parts not labour so you still pay when cheap parts crap out and or bad mechanics over tightening rotors with air guns which could cause the problem of wobble when breaking from warped overheated rotors. But hay blame it on the part you did not need to buy and charge you for more labour to replace it? On the plus side I have had good experences here as well. The guys will talk and spend time with you. But the downside is far greater becuase it is costing you more then needed (above example). read more

I take my car here after reading Lindsay's review. It's hard to find a good mechanic, and you should hang on once you've found one. The guys at Todd's have always been honest and fair,and they're usually pretty fast, too. My only gripe is that I took my car in because of a rubbing-type noise, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Flash forward a month and the rubbing noise is getting worse. I take it back in, and it turns out my break pad was locked and rubbing against the disk all the time (kind of like driving with your breaks on 1/4 all the time). I don't know why it wasn't caught the first time around, but it was a bummer that it wasn't, as it meant getting both new break pads and disks. That's $600 I could have spent on booze and entertainment, damnit! read more

This place is seriously amazing. I have taken several vehicles here over the past 5 years and they are consistently incredible. They always communicate effectively and make sure I understand what is going on. Today I took a used car in for an inspection and am just so grateful I waited to take it into Todd's for an honest opinion so I knew what I was getting myself into. if you know exactly what's wrong with your car go here and they'll do the needed repairs on time would also recommend shopping around for different prices or else they'll replace a part not needed and won't fix the actual issue with the car , regardless of the sum you put in the for the repair , the needed repair will not be fixed as their mechanics will diagnose another issue thinking it will solve the issue and when you put the car on the road the issue your originally took in for will still be there. Went in for a squealing sound on the brakes which just needed a regular maintenance on the front brakes got billed for a whole new brake set in the back and the needed brakes were not serviced and the squealing persisted. will definitely avoid going in unless it for an oil change or something small which is easier for their mechanics to understand and fix. Mechanics at this place not experienced as you would generally expect in a shop to be. My final suggestion, avoid this place for major repairs as big bills and not the required maintenance but will recommend for small and quick service. read more

I've been going to these guys for close to 10 years now. Sadly for the past couple they haven't been frequent since we take out SUV to the dealership for it's "routine" maintenance to appease our warranty. For non warranty work they will get my service (knock on wood we haven't had need for any). They ALWAYS call me before they do any work or "spend" any of my money. This is fantastic service. Friendly bunch of guys, very simple computer system that remembers my cars back to my 1991 Dodge Shadow. I'm sure they remember my list of cars better than I do! It's like having a vet for your vehicle! Another thing that impressed me, they will shop around parts for you to find the better deal and give you the options. Downside... tiny waiting area with no wi-fi. It's best to drop off, enjoy a walk around Halifax and come back when it's done (I'm sure they'd even call your cel if you asked them nicely). read more

My elderly mothers car battery died about 20 feet from "Todd's" it was -10 and she was in the car with me, I walked the 5 seconds to "Todd's" offered them $50 to use their portable battery jumper/charger, pointed out the car 20 feet away, the guy behind the computer didn't look up once, don't know if he was too busy playing wordle or what but didn't say a word to me or even acknowledge me, whoever the other guy was working there said not today we are too busy, when I asked if he could help me out telling him it would be legit 5 minutes of his time he brushed me off sarcastically telling me if I wanted to leave him $400 I could use it...what type of pos person says that, goes a long way to show you the type of person / business they are running there, couldn't care less if my 80 year old mother froze and couldn't spare 5 minutes of their day to be a decent human being , will never ever ever take my auto there and will go out of my way to tell people to not take their car there, whoever Todd is should remember one person who was dissatisfied with poor service or in this case horrible humans will tell 10 people and each one of those 10 people with tell 10 others and so on, so next time someone asks for your help (not even a big ask) might want to think twice and be a good human being and help when you can ...... my advice is, take your car anywhere but Todd's Napa on Inglis in Halifax, if they todd can't help someone in need of a boost think what service they do to your car and overcharge you for apparently everything prolly didn't learn his lesson but hopefully this will hurt his bottom line read more

Got sick of being taken advantage of at the dealer's repair shops. The straw that broke our backs was when we went to buy a used car and the dealers claimed it need as much in repairs as the cost of the car. Even we knew that smelled funny. So we did a shout out on FB for recos and Todd's came up... twice. BEST RECO EVER. These guys are awesome. Friendly, fast & HONEST. They give fair appraisals and try very hard to save you money by not buying new parts when a used part will do just fine thank you. If we had to move, Todd's is one of the very few business we use where we would be distraught to leave behind. That used car? Took my car here a few times purely because it was across the street from my apartment. I always think that I should shop around for prices, but why go through all the effort when a decent place is right there? I used Todd's once for an oil change and once to get my summers on. I had no issues at all, cost was fair, service was great and staff were knowledgeable. Only grip is that they forgot to call me once to let me know my car was ready. It didn't impact me that day, but I can be a stressball if I have to wait, so it could have easily been a different story. read more

They will listen to you and explain things but you still have to know what you are getting yourself into with car repairs. I had my rotors replaced with aftermarket Napa rotors and had all sorts of problems with wobbles & humming noises. I brought it back to Todd's and they told me that they couldn't find a problem. The bottom line is you really need to know about cars before going to any shop. You cannot count on them to teach you unless you do not mind forking out the $$. My gut feeling is that a lot of money is made by replacing parts that didn't need replacing in the first place. I have had good experiences here as well. The guys will call you and tell you what parts need replacing and the cost before doing the work. They also don't mind calling you when your car is ready for pickup. In summary, I found another shop to bring my car since I don't have money to waste. read more

The guys at Todd's have always treated me well. I've learned to trust them -- they've given me a heads-up on work that should be done to prevent bigger bills down the road, and they've also told me when work is unnecessary, saving me money. My sister and I were driving through town when the car started making weird noises. We were concerned, and after confirming with our dad (the car owner) we took it to a repair shop. One siri question away, and we were lead to Todd's. The guy (not sure who it was!) came out, and got in the car after a brief explanation. The noise wasn't there. He said, Maybe there's too much weight, and I stayed behind. When my sister came back, the noise was still gone. We assumed it fixed itself and the guy said if any more problems, bring it back. As we left, the noise came back. We went around the block, and the guy took the car out himself. This time, something happened when he backed up, which made the noise stop. We took 30minutes or so out of this guy's day, and weren't charged one penny for his time. The noise never came back, and I've found my go-to car place..if I ever get a car! read more

When i first moved to Halifax, everyone i knew recommended Todd's. I went to them for the three years that I lived in Halifax and would highly recommend as well. They were always friendly and polite, and never made me feel like an idiot for asking about this or that. If they said the car would be done by whatever time, it was finished on time or often before. If something is not imminently in need of replacement but needs to be monitored, they tell you and check up on it at future visits. The prices were very reasonable. They are honest hardworking mechanics and i felt cared for and trusted 100% in their suggestions. The only downside is that now that I've moved out of province, i have to find another mechanic shop as great as this one! read more
