The person responsible for deciding who goes next in line on shift at 6:24 pm Friday September 8th who said his name was Daren let a car who had only just arrived go ahead of both me and another waiting car. This is not the first time we have had an issue with him as he tends to let people in fancy cars and his friends cut the line, other times it seems random. Either way today was the last straw for me as he won't even look you in the eyes when you confront him and to ask why this happened. I recently took my car in for an oil change at the Lacewood Dr. Halifax location. The technician went ahead with the oil change without letting me know that he was using synthetic oil so I was surprised when I got the invoice and I had been charged for a synthetic oil change. Not happy, with not being informed of that. It would have been fine if he had asked me instead of just going ahead with this. I do not recommend this location. read more

Today I was at Mr.Lube on Lacewood drive,Halifax N.S. for an oil change, after the oil change which was done fast, on my way out of the shop my passenger side front tire picked up one screw and got a air leak, I drove back after 5 minutes and asked the employee to fix my tire and he told me that my tire isn't fixable because not much tread was left on the tire. Absolute BS.!! He need to send inside the tire not outside. This was my first and guarantee the last visit to Mr.Lube. BTW if anyone from Mr.Lube reading these reviews please let to employees know to sweep the shop floor after every car to avoid this things. read more

Still a new kid on the block they are learning and have some small kinks to work out, when I arrived they asked me to park off to the side and the waived me up to the door,,,then realized it was wrong and I needed to move again. They are super friendly and greet you at the car with a paper and offer coffee, hot chocolate etc. The entire action of changing the oil was quite a show...it was like being in a hotel kitchen where everyone is yelling back and forth....OIL ON 3...CHECKING LIGHTS ON 3...and of course they are all yelling back...quite theatrical. The wait was longer than I would have expected, 40 minutes...and the price was higher than I would expect for just oil. I also felt a a SLIGHT pressure on the upsell of "better Oil" Transmission Fluid" etc. The only thing that ay hold me back from a return is the price...as well as the little sticker in the window they give you, does not say what the mileage should be the next time you come in...rather it estimates the timeline you can "expect" to be back. read more

I. Will. Never. Go. Back. If you've read my previous review of Todd's South End Car Care, you know that I already have a good garage. Unfortunately on this particular day (which was a few months ago), I remembered that I had a few extra minutes in Clayton Park and my car needed an oil change; it isn't like me to put car maintenance off, but in this case I was planning to get it done when I changed my tires for winter. It was long enough away that I decided to go ahead with the oil change on its own and so I pulled in here to have it done. Part way through the oil change they told me that I needed another fluid (declining to mention it here) change - I didn't remember the exact last time this had been done and although that wasn't what I'd originally come in for, I consented to have it done. Several minutes later, they inform me that a part on my car (again, declining to mention) is so badly rusted that it has to be completely replaced. I had to wait for the new part to be driven in from Dartmouth, because they refused to reinstall the old one after taking it off. Two hours and over $300 later, I'm out the door with new oil, new fluid, and a new car part. I left with a sour taste in my mouth. It frigged up my afternoon and emptied my wallet. I didn't think to ask for the part back, or for a photo of it (although I suspect they wouldn't have obliged either way). But by the time I got home that evening, I was pretty sure I'd been screwed. Now - I could break an anvil and I'm not a mechanic. However - my little car has been a dependable, enjoyable ride for 10 years because I've (and Todd's) has taken good care of it. I found it hard to believe that part would have rusted so badly in the 6000 km of summer driving I did without the good folks at Todd's pointing out the need for a near-future replacement. So - buyer beware. These Mr. Lube people aren't licensed mechanics, they're salespeople (and greasy ones at that - ha!). Don't let them get their hands on your ride! read more

Lied, lied, lied! Will never be back Very disappointed. I pulled up on a Thursday of a long weekend. I was quickly greeted, offered a coffee, paper and given an estimate in time as they were lined up. I waited no problamo! When I entered the bay they asked what I was here for. I told the man I was in for an oil changed and wanted to do the deal they had on where I get new wiper blades and also an under coating. He said absolutely. He proceeded to check my oil on my car. He took the dip stick up to me and asked in shock "sir! When was the last oil change?? 20,000 km ago???" And I expect this every time as it's always the same... "no it was done 4000 km ago. I'm getting it early as I need the undercoating. May as well do both". He proceeded to tell me how bad the oil looked and asked me if I wanted a flush done. I declined. He changed the oil and after it was changed he took the dip stick up and said "look. Because you didn't do the flush it still looks really bad." I was absolutely shocked he said that. So now I feel as if I have wasted my money at mr.lube because I didn't "listen". So me being me I said "looks like I just wasted my money here." The guy shrugged his shoulders. I couldn't believe it. Anyway... While they get ready to do the under coating, they explain how it works and to close my windows up. I do so and it is a quick 3-5 minutes. After done he said "okay you're all done. I'll ring you through". So after this is done he thanked me and said have a great day! I said "where are the new wiper blades?" He told me I was required to tell him this at payment so he didn't ring them through with the discount on.... of course I told him I don't give a *s* about his discount and I'll have my blades thanks. He got them and said again have a nice day. I asked him why they didn't clean my windows after the under coating as they were full of spray. He said we normally don't do that. I know that's a lie as I go every two years for undercoating... so he did. Then I said the fluids were not topped up(a complementary service).... why not that's normal procedure? He said "oh.. I thought you declined that." Really people.. why would my Hyundai Accent decline fluid top up???? Are you kidding? It's not high end car... just top it up!! Lastly as he's doing this I read over my receipt. I notice they selected decline on a lot of this they they normally provide as a complimentary service. So I decided to read the whole thing while he tops everything up. I notice tire pressure marked "ok". So I have a slow leak in my back left tire and I know that all the others are low... I asked him about it and he completely lied to me and said "it's good" so I got out of my car and pointed to my back tire and asked "how is that okay?" He was obviously caught on a lie as he didn't check my tire pressure. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. Tire pressure is extremely important and I can not believe they didn't check the tire pressure. That sort of stuff can cause accidents if one of them blew. This is getting too long so I'll hurry up. He filled the tires I complained to the manager. He called me and was very nice. He listened to my complaints and offered me a free oil change for the future. I'm super upset. Really I should have gotten my money back or a oil change and under coating. My reasoning is because his staff lied to me about checking my car over. How do I know things are done the correct way??? Super pissed off. So I went to the mr lube in Dartmouth off of Portland street. I asked them to see if I needed an undercoating so they asked me to pull in. I knew I would get the answer to the quality of work done. Surprise surprise. They said it looks like I do need an under coating as the one I have is worn off. Who do I believe? All I know is mr.lube lost me as a customer who would faithfully go to them. My wife went to get a basic oil change. Our dealership does it for 44 dollars. She got it done and was informed it would be $112 after taxes. They told her she has to pay that much. She doesn't understand that your "upsells" are not required and they completely scammed her. The owner of the Halifax store contacted me trying to defend his actions. I told him I would be contacting corporate and he hung up on me. Careful. This location likes to scam unsuspecting women into thinking they need certain services done that are not required. Update: the owner contacted me back and after a very professional call I am pleased with the outcome of his actions. Update 2. Looks like the owner was full of it. Never got what he promised me. Garbage. Arrived at 11am and told it was a 4.5 hour wait for my tires to be changed to winters onto the present rims and a quick oil change. No problem, it's peak season. Then 6 hours go by and I'm finally IN the bay, not done. Then, after numerous attempts to upsell me I say "I've had a long day just do the job I came in for." Then it went sideways. In their haste and lack of caring at all, they break the tire pressure monitor in my front left. Replace it. Then attempt, and fail, to recalibrate it with the on board computer. I'm left to walk around outside in the cold as the assistant manager frantically googles how to stop the TPM warning and flashing dome lights. Finally, after 45 minutes and being told that they won't tow it to Fairley and Stevens or give me a rental car as they damaged mine, the car reboots itself and registers the sensor that isn't even a Ford part. 140.25 to have some guy try to upsell me as I've waited almost 2 hours longer than told originally then to have my car get damaged and be offered no help or compensation. And no, putting tape over the dome/cabin lights to hide the flashing is not a viable solution to them damaging my property. I want my 140.25 back, and I can't wait to tell everyone I know to avoid this place. read more

I've been to this Mr. Lube twice, and although it's convenient, it's just not my favourite place to get my oil changed. Let me explain. I took my husband's car the first time, and they said the manual transmission might need maintenance (this based on scanning the VIN). When the guy told me, I had to say "um, well since this is an automatic, I don't think so." The next time I took my car, and the mechanic almost put regular oil instead of synthetic in. They also tried to sell me undercoating, when I already have it done through my dealership. However, they were very nice, they asked me lots of questions and it's nice to be able to sit in your own car while waiting. They have some good deals too, when I got my oil changed the second time I got windshield wipers for free (and I really needed them, so it was a bonus!). The cost is about the same no matter where I've taken it, so it's the extras that help make it more desirable. Overall, I think they're just a little inexperienced, and if you know enough about your car it isn't a big deal. However, I can see them easily taking advantage of someone who doesn't know a lot about their car by selling them extra maintenance services. Just be sure you know what you want, and if it's just an oil change, make sure they know you don't want any of the extra services. read more

Extremely friendly staff, the "show" they put on is a bit much but it does give the feel of a well run team. The 3 bay shop was clean and the staff were friendly and courteous to me and each other. I came in on a Saturday morning around 9am, there were 3 cars in and I was one of 2 others waiting. Wait wasn't long, maybe 15-20 minutes. The offer of a hot drink and a paper while I waited was a nice touch. I ended up getting a synthetic oil change, wipers replaced and rear-differential fluid changed. I went in for just the oil change, but they're services brochure lists a few other things I new I needed so it was very convenient to get it all done in one spot. The up-sell is there (as it is any garage/dealer), so just be prepared and know what you want/need before you go in. If you feel like they are asking you to do something you don't feel is necessary, I would just say no thank you, they won't pressure you. Then you can have it checked out by your regular mechanic/dealer. read more

STAY AWAY! Seriously. Oil change was fine albeit expensive but, when they brought me a cup of "transmission fluid" all bets were off. The guy asked if I had ever seen transmission fluid and when I said yes, he backed up a bit so I could not get too close. What he showed me was a black mess the likes of which is nearly impossible. (I suspect they pour dirty oil into new transmission fluid). He said it has to be changed right away and it would be $200! My car had 40000km on it only and when I showed him my 175k powertrain warranty he said the fluid was fine. Wtf? I told the Dodge mech and he laughed. You can't get a sample of the fluid in this car without a vacuum tube through the fill pipe (they did no do that) and it is a CVT so unless it was on fire it would never turn black. Also, the wholesale cost on the only approved fluid is over $100 each litre and it takes more than one...can't remember exactly how many. So that begs...would they have actually done anything if I had said yes or would they have put in unapproved fluid? Scam through and through. read more

Moving from BC, when the car needed an oil change the first thing I did was look to see where my nearby Mr. Lube was. What do you mean there's no Mr. Lube in Nova Scotia???? Thankfully, the first one opened on Lacewood, with more on the books. It is true that they haven't yet built up the speed that other locations have - the whole point of going to a hurry-lube is it's just that....in a hurry. Take a tip from the other locations - they positively RUN! Still, since no one else has offered drive-up oil changes (and other services, I've had my wipers and filters changed, and rad fluid changed there as well), it's great to go to Mr. Lube. Get on their email list and you're treated like a VIP! read more

I went into Mr. Lube for my first oil and filter change since it opened. I like that they offer you a free coffee while you are waiting and that you basically don't have to get out of your car the whole time; you drive up, they come out and tell you how it works, you drive in, they do the work and you drive out. I didn't like that you had to park and wait to hold your place in line, but I guess that's the point of first come first served. Just before you get into the service bay a guy comes up and tops off all 4 tires with air and lubricates your door hinges. I had heard that they try and up sell people--particularly women--something fierce. My girlfriend's sister had this happen to her and they attempted the same with my girlfriend a little while ago. Needless to say I was prepared when I went. I'm no gear head but I knew what needed to be done me on my car and was prepared to pay only for what I came for. The tech was very nice as he pulled a computer monitor over to my window and showed my the service schedule for my car. He happily announced that I should change my engine air and cabin filter. When he started to remove the cover for my engine air filter I told him I'm not going to change it but he could check it if he wanted. He didn't finish removing it so I guess it wasn't worth their time to check it if they weren't going to sell a new filter?? Anyway, I also waved off the change of the cabin air filter; checking and changing that is easy peasy on your own. Total for oil and filter change was $55.21 with mineral oil and including tax on my 07 Honda Accord. Pretty much on par with the old Shell lube place on Robie Street (which I sorely miss). All in all this place isn't bad. You need to know what you need when you go there, and what you're getting into when you go. Otherwise they will soak you with unnecessary maintenance. It's too bad they feel they need to operate like this and there is no trust developed when they do. One other thing: they didn't reset the maintenance light or oil life readout on my car. Not sure why, because it literally takes 20 seconds to do. They did check to make sure my headlights, turn signals and brake lights worked though. Maybe so they wouldn't get sued if someone said they broke something on their car? read more

Great place to go if you need an oil change done fast without an appointment and have lots of money to burn. The up selling is crazy here and you get treated like an idiot. DO NOT let them touch anything but doing an oil change. I was going to allow them to change a bulb, because who can't change a bulb, but when they didn't have the bulb in stock and were closing up the hood I could tell they had that " I did something wrong" look (maybe because I am a parent). Sure enough I got out of the car and asked to look and the guy didn't want to spend the time to attach thing right and the bulb covers were hanging open waiting to get wet and cause me a pile of grief down the road. The convenience factor alone makes this worthwhile. My 3 year old only naps in the car, so this works great when I have a spare hour. This gets a five star because when I came in for an oil change based on mileage today the guy talked me out of it, then gave me a free wiper because mine was wrecked...and all the while I sipped a free coffee. Went there for an oil change. Was told I had an oil leak and they could not change the oil unless the faulty parts were fixed. I knew for a fact I did not have an oil leak. When I told him that, he went back under and came out saying the same thing. When I asked where the leak was coming from he gave me two or three random locations (he probably didn't actually know). Went to another mechanic that day and had my oil changed (there was no oil leak). The fact that they cannot correctly identify a leak is alarming. Will not be going back. read more

Very disapointed...Took time to make a special trip to Bayers Lake location to get an over due oil change done. Waited 20 min outside(no big deal) then entered the bay, poped hood, the regular sales pitch(no big deal), 10-15 min later I was told by the attendant that they did not have a filter for my car....or the other two vechiles in the adjacent bays! WHAT??? You are an oil change shop! And you dont have a filter for my car!!! I have used this location for oil changes for both my vechiles since shortly after they opened. I had an oil change there in April. The staff there were friendly and kindly, they offered me coffee and news paper; they seemed had some standard safety procedures training. They communicated well with co-work working under the basement; however, the employees were not professional. I asked them to check my differential fluid to see if they needed to be replaced. (My Infiniti has both from and rear differentials). First, they didn't know where to check for the front one; second, when they checked the rear one, they stripped the bolt; Then the result turned to I hadn't got my differential fluid checked and I received a stripped bolt. They didn't have the tool to fix the bolt. i have to pay for someone to fix Mr Lube's fault read more

I went in for an oil change for my Toyota. While I was waiting they cleaning my windows and lubed my door hinges while offering coffee and a newspaper.There wasn't a long wait to get in either. When I got in the mechanics were great to talk to. They did not offer me anything I didn't need just the oil change which was great. After years of dealing with car mechanics. I have learned not to trust any of them but to rather know myself what is going on with my car as much as possible then if advised to get an extra service. I walk away and use the internet to learn as much as I can before diving in to avoid getting burned. This place is no different in respect that they will advise you to get more then you came for. I went in for an oil change and while I do appreciate the battery check which the dealership wants to charge an additional $40.00 to check. These guys include the battery check as part of the oil change service so they have me sold just on that one point. They also offer coffee and a news paper once you pull up. As others have said you just stay seated while they do the service. They even check your undercoating. I was not bombarded with suggested services just one and it was something I can take care of myself with a fuel injector cleaner added to my gas every 5000 km or so. If I did not do that than the 100 dollar fuel service they were selling may come in handy? I just suggest you get done what you came for and don't feel pressured to do more than that. read more
