I have been a patient of Dr. Bay's for years and have found him and his staff to be outstanding! Joan is amazing! She always remembers me and greets me with a smile and warmth. She is efficient and kind in every interaction. Honestly, I'm SHOCKED at other reviewers' comments and have found her to be nothing like they say. Truly, I can't say enough. Dr. Bay has been thorough and willing to go above and beyond to accommodate my needs. I feel like he's on my side with insurance companies, in particular. In the past, he appealed my insurance denial up to the state board. Every time I leave after an appointment, I think about how easy, thorough, and positive the interaction was. I started seeing Dr Bay following my open heart surgery when I realized I was suffering from post heart surgery depression. After the only in person visit he would see me virtually. I always found it unusual when one of his staff would contact me ahead of the visit collect my credit card info for my copay. Not once did they offer to bill my insurance. Regardless, his virtual appointments did almost nothing to help my depression. He only made one slight modification of my medication which hasnt helped. Finally, last week I was unexpectedly called out of town for business the day before my virtual appointment and didn't recall til early that morning in which I left a VM. His staff called stating that I would be assessed a no-show fee of $125. He stated this was the 2nd time it happened, which I distinctly recall happening but could have sworn I gave him notice ahead of time. When I objected they tried to book me later in the day, in which I told them I wouldn't be able to accommodate due to my business meetings. Sure enough at 340pm my phone chirped indicating he wasn't attempting to start a virtual appointment, which I unfortunately wasn't able to attend. Then two business days later his no-show bill (today) arrived to my house. What's particularly upsetting is that about 2 months ago my heart stopped while I was sleeping due to A.V block, a side effect of my open heart surgery. I underwent an emergency pacemaker surgery, which set me back in my depression. In my last session with Dr Bay we discussed this and how it impacted my overall mental well being. He knew that I was in a really difficult state of mind. He apparently was more concerned about my no-show and making sure he collected my $125. I will pay that because I signed his up front agreements saying I would. Well Dr Bay .... You won the battle, but you lost the war. Not only will I no longer see you, but I will let my cardiologist who referred me to you know of your unfortunate and aggressive policies. read more

Do not go here! Not because of the Dr. but because of his office staff. I needed my medical records sent to the VA and they are currently gathering evidence of my psychiatric disorder. Mind you, I am a protected disabled veteran. I was called by his secretary that I told the VA had called and requested the records retaining to my disability. The assistant said I owed a $125 for a missed appt. That's fine and I will pay it, however, she kept insinuating that they would not send my records to the VA until clear. I asked her multiple times if that was correct and all she could say was that I owed them money and she had to talk to her boss. I repleted my question again and she then stated in verbatim ". I'll do it when I feel like it!" She shortly hung up on me. Get a new office assistant if you want someone to be patient and kind to a mentally disabled person or all persons for that matter. Repeat, do not go here. Do not trust this office with your medical records!!!! read more

If you want a doctor who actually cares about you and your health and your life? Don't bother. A little background: I am a mother of 3 kids under 6. Life is a bit hectic as you can imagine however I try to be as respectful as possible. During my first visit with Dr. Bey, he was attentive and kind and listened to me for over an hour. I thought, wow this guy is awesome! I have found my guy! During my second visit, he didn't even look at me. Not. Once. He looked at his computer, cut me off, and sent me out of his office with an increased rx, which I found out later was not only the max dosage of 2 different medicines but was far too much for me. I chalked it up to him just being busy. For my third visit, I got a call about an hour before that my son had broken his arm at school. I called and let them know that I had to take him to the hospital. They were understanding and fine and rescheduled for a week later. The following week, we woke up and my youngest (18 months) had a fever. I called their office before 7 am and left a voicemail letting them know I wouldn't make it to my 3pm appointment. They called me back at 9 and told me that was fine. THEN she called me back at 9:30 and said "Dr. Bey feels like he sees a pattern here and will be charging you a no show fee of $130". Um. Excuse me?? They sent me the bill. I wrote a letter explaining exactly what I just said above, with doctors notes, and sent a check for $65 (my copay), apologizing, and respectfully declining to pay the whole amount as it was clearly a gouge and not appropriate. However I paid my copay because I felt like I did respect his time and that I owed him that if he felt disrespected. THEY SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS for the other $65!! Are you kidding me?? Dr. Bey only cares about over medicating and getting his money. He doesn't give a damn if you have kids or a life or a documented situation. Don't waste your time. read more

About Dr. Scot Bay, MD and Staff: STAY AWAY FROM BAY. STAFF IS RUDE TO THE POINT OF CAUSING POTENTIAL PATIENTS UNDUE STRESS!!! I called Dr. Bay's office on Mach 12 approx. 4PM to make an appointment. Female on office staff was extremely rude and she refused to give me her name (rough older sounding voice). She hung up on me several times. I could not get an appointment and, at this point, would not get an appointment even if they paid and begged me to come in. Dr. Bay's staff are his representatives. If he knew how I was handled, he would probably terminate that staff member on the spot. Doctor Bay supposedly provides psychiatric services. His staff should take care and have compassion with anyone to whom they are speaking . After dealing with his staff, I was very distraught and upset...hence this review. I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews for trivial reasons. This incident was NOT trivial. Doctor Bay and the public should be aware that his staff puts the health of potential patients in peril. Suppose this female staff member spoke to and repeatedly hung up on someone who was suicidal? TO DOCTOR BAY: Find out who this staff member is and fire her before she hurts someone. Thank You! NOTE: On 03/14/2013 3PM Tried to give unknown receptionist a 2nd chance before sending this to Yelp. Dr Bay is arrogant, and his office people are rude. He will talk down to you and acts like he is a know it all and you have no common sense. We will never use him or recommend his services. Save the mental stress and find a better shrink. read more

I had called Dr. Bay this afternoon after someone had recommended him. I spoke with Joan who asked how I had heard about Dr. Bay. I had given her my reference's name and Joan had told me about their financial status, which I was thrown off by. She then disregarded that I had called for my own appointment and asked if I could have them call her. I was uncomfortable with the entire conversation and tried to divert back to the reason for the call. She the insinuated that Dr. Bay would be less likely to take me as a patient and that he "was not happy" with the situation. She asked me follow up questions as to what lead me to seek Dr. Bay (which I know is normal), but given the conversation before, I felt it rather pointless. Before hanging up, Joan then asked me to be sure my reference called them... Shortly after, I spoke to the person who recommended me, who followed up with Joan. They were told that none of this conversation had happened and that I lied about the entire conversation. I found the entire situation to be really uncomfortable and unprofessional. I am not an employee, I am not a messenger and, quite frankly, whatever situations are going on with other patients, whether I know them are not, is not any of my business nor was it any of Joan's business to tell me (thus violating the law). I was reluctantly pulled into a situation I hadn't known about and then was discriminated against and felt as though I was guilty by association. So, all in all, I will look for a different doctor and will never recommend his office. read more

While Dr. Bay seemed to be a competent psychiatrist, his office staff has completely ruined any future business or referral from me. I had recommended him to my younger sister who was searching for a doctor. When she called to make an appointment, she spoke with Joan. She said she was talked down to and was treated with extreme disrespect. Joan proceeded to tell her not only my billing situation, but also insinuated that Dr. Bay would not take my sister as a patient because of me. Not only did Joan violate HIPAA and HITECH by sharing my financial status, but she then also blatantly discriminated against my sister. Needless to say, I called to address the situation. Joan was not only INCREDIBLY rude, she called my sister a liar. After a few moments she ended the conversation with "I don't have time for this." And hung up. This was completely out of line. If this is how Dr. Bay has chosen to run his business, he not only has lost several patients and future business, but he is allowing his office staff to violate HIPAA law. I recommend Dr Bay to anyone who is actively trying to understand their mental health. He always takes the time to talk with me & ask extensive questions. He is actively involved in finding solutions that work on a case by case basis - so many doctors I have seen in the past seem to be in a hurry to prescribe whatever works for the most people & get me out of the office as quickly as possible. read more

His staff can be rude. If you call for even a mundane reason you often end up arguing with the staff. They are rude and unwilling to do their job. I was taken aback by their seemingly unwillingness to help the patients when the problem arose from something Dr. Bay didn't do. He doesn't spend a lot of time with the patients. read more

I recommend Dr. Bay to anyone who needs a mental health professional. Several of my friends, colleagues, and family members are now his patients. He is the best I have been to in the metro Atlanta area. He was able to put me on the correct dose of medication and provide counseling in our sessions. He is great at medication maintenance and adjusting medication if needed. My wife also sees him and will only go to him! If I ever need anything with myself or my wife, the office staff is very patient and willing to help. My experience has been if you are nice to the staff and doctors, they will be willing to help you no matter what. When we've had emergencies, he is quick to call back, which always puts me at ease. He is very quiet, has great bedside manners, and genuinely wants to help his patients. Thank you, Dr. Bay, for saving not only my life, but my wife's, as well! read more

I had the exact same experience from this woman who answers the phone. EXTREMELY RUDE!!! If you are suicidal, DO NOT CALL THIS DOCTOR! I asked for her name and she told me her name was MY NAME!!! TRAUMATIZED by my visit. I met with Dr. Bay on a new patient appointment. I am a trusting person and freely answered his deeply personal questions including sexual abuse and my ability to conceive children. He expressed no empathy whatsoever. When he gave me his medication recommendation I politely spoke up and said I don't think it's the right option for me. He angrily stood and said he will NOT debate, the time is up, there is the door, please leave. This is alarming behavior from any doctor, let alone a mental health professional with whom I had just shared intimate details of my life.
