After visiting the National Weather Center, we were ready for lunch. Our original plan was OK Diner…read morenear Max Westheimer Airport, but it turns out they're closed on Mondays. My wife found Soda Pops in Moore, and it proved to be a very good backup plan! Soda Pops has a fun, old-fashioned atmosphere with plenty of nostalgia to look at--from the jukebox and colorful soda bottles to all the interesting memorabilia throughout the restaurant. I ordered the catfish sandwich, while my wife chose the chicken-fried steak sandwich. Both arrived piping hot--and I mean take-one-bite-and-start-blowing hot! We shared bites of each and agreed that both sandwiches were very good. The fries were cooked crispy just as we requested, although that particular style of fry wasn't really our favorite. My lemonade was the biggest disappointment because it had very little flavor. My only real frustration involved the tartar sauce. The large catfish fillet had very little sauce on it, so I politely asked for a small side and was told it would cost extra. That was fine--until I saw the $1.39 charge on the bill. Meanwhile, my wife received a side of mayonnaise for her sandwich at no charge. It isn't the $1.39 itself that bothered me. It just seemed excessive for a small condiment that was needed because the sandwich was lightly dressed in the first place. Perhaps serving the tartar sauce on the side would allow customers to use as much or as little as they prefer. That small issue aside, we enjoyed the nostalgic atmosphere, received friendly service and thought both sandwiches were delicious. Soda Pops was a fun lunch stop, and we would definitely return! --Chef T
