Afternoon sweet treat after my daughter's dance recital. This is a cute, quaint ice cream shop located in Covington Square. We loved the vibes! My daughter is 11, when go out to eat I let her order and have always taught her to say hello and ask "how are you doing" to the person taking her order. I went to scoops one Friday night around 7. The line was wrapped throughout the store almost to the front door. It's a tight space, full of sugary Knick knacks to explore while you wait to get to the counter. It probably took about 10 mins to get to the counter to see the ice cream flavors. I wish I would have seen those with maybe a description while I was in line so I could think about what I wanted. I don't think there was any inherent pressure from anyone else but I did kind of feel like I was rushing to make a decision instead of really getting to explore the menu, being it was my first time there. I sampled 3 flavors and settled on the cookie monster, i think, and a brownie something flavor on a cake cone. They have cute little rocking chairs outside and staggered stairs in case you wanted to park and eat but I opted to explore the square. There were quite a few businesses and restaurants that were still open so I was able to pop in or peak in and by the time I was finished with my ice cream, I was back to my car. We have lived in the Covington area for many years. We always stopped here when we wanted a treat. It had always been great, with service spotty sometimes. We stopped today. Went to get our usual items. Noticed the signs on some of the ice cream weren't as detailed as before. Example: Madagascar Vanilla was now just Vanilla. Bought our ice cream and sat down to eat it. Something is off. It's not the same. I picked it up right away. My wife also noticed. When we were leaving I asked if they had changed their ice cream. I was told they had. I was visiting and had a late Sunday lunch just across the square at Mystic Grill and we popped until to this spot for a quick, sweet treat. It also is a candy shop with a variety of candies and baked goods, including cookies. I had half peach cobbler and half butter pecan in one scoop and the combination was excellent. This is a 5- star gem in Covington. While driving back from a business trip, I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon to satisfy a sweet tooth. I was not disappointed in their selection of ice cream and candies. It reminded me of places we used to stop at on long road trips. It wasn't crowded but for a weekday had a good amount of patrons in the shop. The shop isn't small but the displays of candy take up a lot of space! The first ice cream I sampled, the brownie batter, ended up being my choice for a scoop in a cup. I added in a scoop of the sea turtle for good measure :). This ice cream is fresh tasting(no icicles here!) and creamy without being super sweet. The brownie batter has big chunks of chewy brownies and the sea turtle's candies were perfect- they weren't hard and frozen but easy to bite into with rich caramel.
