I been to another Frozen Custard place previously but it's not Atlantas own! They deserve every award past and present! First time visiting this local gem! I had the Brownie hot fudge in a standard cup and hubby had the strawberry with cheesecake bites in a cup with a straw. The inside is nice and cozy with outside seating. I wish there was a more diverse staff but the workers were very pleasant and knowledgeable! Service is always fast and friendly. I love the outdoor setup with benches and chairs for adults and children. I've tried a variety of flavors and the flavor of the day but I typically stick with vanilla with mix ins such as caramel, chocolate and brownies plus some whipped cream on top - delightful! I don't like frozen custard. I love Berens. Their custard is unlike any other I have tried. The daily flavors and the topping options mean that even with their seemingly limited flavor offerings, there is something for everyone every day at Berens. In addition to their custards they have snow cones and cookies. They also have a stock of previous days flavors packaged to go in a freezer if the flavor of the day is not to your liking. After eating sushi but before going to see a musical in nearby Lawrenceville, we decided dessert was in order. We love frozen custard and decided to go to Berens in nearby Grayson. It's a small blink and you might miss it kind of spot. It was manned by pleasant young people and busy on a warm Saturday evening. DD #1 got chocolate mint concrete. It was good but we agreed it could have less mint Oreos and Andes mints and more custard. DD#2 got a brownie sundae which she proclaimed delicious and perfect. The smell of the cones, and cookies hits you as soon as you open the door. They have a walk-up window as well, but I really enjoy that sugary smell of anticipation. We ordered a regular peanut butter explosion, and a banana split in a boat. Both were delicious. The custard is creamy, and not overly sweet. The portion sizes are big, so we had some left over for a snack later. Next time we are in the area, this is a must stop! Berens serves frozen custard, which is richer and smoother than ice cream. The base flavors, typically chocolate or vanilla, are excellent. Recently I tried two flavors, Rocky Road, and mint chocolate chip (on two separate visits; they have flavors of the day that are not available on other days) that I had not tried at Berens. Those are two of my favorite ice cream flavors. Unfortunately in frozen custard, they didn't quite live up to my expectations. Still quite tasty but somehow not as good. On another visit I tried the chocolate concrete; it's outstanding! The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating and the staff is friendly and prompt. Check out the mural outside. read more

No complaints, we love it here. This is the best custard and the people are always super friendly, only a suggestion-- A "No Smoking" sign on the patio. We were sitting outside with our toddler and baby and were forced inside due to someone smoking at the table behind us. I've only had one issue out of the many times we've been. They were really busy and a bit backed up. They forgot my order and when they did get it the "concrete" (mix) wasn't well portioned. Berens Frozen Custard is a delight to have. It's located in the rapidly developing Grayson downtown area aka "Railyard". On warm evenings they are packed and still keep a smooth, rapidly running ship. Their employees are teenagers but don't get it twisted- they are very personable and very well trained. All custard is made on-site fresh (the machine is out in the open and you can see the custard slowly coming out). They have 3 flavors of custard daily- vanilla, chocolate, and a flavor of the day. They have a calendar on their website that shows every day's flavor, so if there is one that you REALLY want, you can plan ahead :) Not to fret, they also have an extensive list of toppings you can add, as well as plenty of size options, and a list of concrete creations. They also have snow cones/snowballs (I do not know the proper term) with a huge list of flavors, and baked desserts. The interior is very clean and the walls have newspaper clippings from throughout the years about Berens. They also have some merchandise for sale, and a big cooler that sells pints of the past flavors of the day. They are very neatly labeled so there is no confusion at all. Outside, there is a small seating area and a little window that you can order at if you don't feel like going inside. Now on the custard.... Ohhhhhhh my goodness SOOO rich and creamy.... When we first went here my husband was so apprehensive telling me "oh I don't like custard" let's just say he changed his mind VERY quickly. The vanilla and chocolate are top-tier. The grasshopper concrete tastes just like an andes mint or a thin mint cookie and it is incredibly delicious. My husband actually gets the kids' size since he doesn't have much of a sweet tooth but now the snow cones are his new favorite thing to order. He also loves the M&M cookie. This is a MUST have in the Grayson area and I am so thankful we get to have this in the neighborhood. I would choose Berens over a chain ice cream place any day of the week. Their custard is so soft and velvety! The hot fudge sundae was perfect in the most simple way possible. Most importantly was their customer service! Our family loves coming here for treats!!! My daughter has a top 5 fav flavors and my son has a set treat he orders every time we go! (Half vanilla, half chocolate... gummy bears) What I realllllly love about Berens is the price!!! Across the street at another ice cream place we were paying almost double for treats... here, we aren't breaking our budget and can more often!! Great customer service! Super clean!! Great flavors!!! Frozen custard on a sunny day...life is GOOD! This family owned establishment greeted us with smiles. For our first time here we were excited to see all the different concretes and options! They offered us samples and gave us a quick run down on how they create their frozen custard. The kids thought that was cool! Prices weren't bad at all...the banana split was $5.25, single scoop (cup) was $2.89, and about $4-5 for single scoop (waffle cone). They have a cute outdoor patio to bask in the sun while enjoying your sweet treat. But eat fast...frozen custard doesn't stand a chance outside. Lol. read more
