Brooker’s Founding Flavors Ice Cream

Brooker’s Founding Flavors Ice Cream

(8 reviews)

Walking into Brooker's Founding Flavors felt like stepping into a fun little history scene--the…read moreworkers were all dressed as Founding Fathers, which instantly made me smile. They were so patient with me while I tried (yes...) five different flavors before deciding. Jeff was especially great; he had a genuine smile the whole time and handed me each sample like he was excited for me to try it. I'm originally from Louisiana, so the John Jay's Louisiana Purchase Pralines & Cream immediately caught my eye, and it truly tasted like home. The French brown butter vanilla, New Orleans pralines, and butterscotch swirl were absolutely perfect together. I also loved The Tory Apathy--cheesecake ice cream with black raspberry swirls. Both flavors were bold and explosive without being overwhelming, and that really stood out to me. I normally stick to chocolate or coffee ice cream, but these two completely won me over. The texture is a little more on the icy, compact side, but the flavor payoff makes up for it. Overall, such a fun, delicious, memorable stop!

As always, I wish Yelp gave us the option for half-star reviews. We've been on several occasions…read moresince this franchise opened. The ice cream itself is very good, and there are lots of flavor options. The shop is clean and in a great location, and the service has always been fast, even when there is a line. For these things, Brooker's would normally be a 4 in my book. The reason I can't rate this higher is the cost. With a small tip, we paid $7 on our most recent visit for a single scoop (in a cup...with no extras); a regular shake on a previous visit was $9. We recently noticed that they have started weighing the scoop portions, too. I know that we are partly paying for the experience and for a high-quality treat. However, at this same price point, I could pick up a half-gallon of regular ice cream or even a pint of "fancy" ice cream across the street at Smith's. Sadly, our visits to Brooker's will likely be fewer and farther between going forward.

Now that I have your attention and I've given you an ear worm, I'll share a story. My friends and I spent a Saturday on ísbíltúr, which is an Icelandic tradition of taking an ice cream road trip. We hit five different places around the Salt Lake valley and lived to tell about it; with only a slight stomachache. This one is a drive through with a small walk-up window and seating outside. It happened to be our last stop on our journey and was the perfect ending to our adventure! We ordered our cones at the window and then sat on the patio in the warm evening air, enjoying our final treats of the day. The patio is situated between two drive through lines, so the setting is a little unusual, but still good vibes. Blue Moo offers Blue Bell ice cream (IYKYK) and is generous in their portion sizes. There's a lovely blue cow photo op adjacent to the drive thru (logistics can be a little tricky if there are cars queuing up).

Blue Moo carries the iconic Blue Bell ice cream - a brand that isn't sold in grocery stores here in Utah. They had a great variety of flavors and each scoop comes in a cup AND a cone! We got the Oatmeal Cookie and Pistachio Almond. Both delicious! The prices were reasonable and the portions were decent. The staff were super nice and the tables outside were kept clean for those that want to stay and eat their ice cream. Can't wait to go back to try more flavors! P.s. there are a lot of Gluten Free options too!

The parking lot is always totally full any day of the week. The wife had a brownie hot fudge sundae. I had the pralines and caramel sundae in a waffle bowl. Really delicious home made hot fudge and caramel toppings. Especially the hot fudge. And I make a killer hot fudge. This hot fudge had a fantastic flavor. We really enjoyed both of our sundaes, which are typical Leatherby's over the top, spilled over, can't finish it all sundaes. Our waitress was very smiley. All employees seemed happy to be there. Employees at an ice cream shop better be happy, they are dealing with some of the happiest substance on earth! Nice restaurant (they also have meal items). Plenty of families and kids here. Everyone having a good time. Comfortable booths. It's really a happening place. Good ice cream and friends say their food is good, too. Give them a visit. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

I know I've been here twice before and I didn't review this hidden gem!?!?…read more No! It's not just another frozen yogurt spot. You walk in and it's huge inside with lots of comfy booths to relax and enjoy the frozen delicious yogurt. What caught my attention was the abundance of toppings available and not just the quantity but how fresh and bountiful the containers were filled with fresh fruit, nuts, several boba flavors, crushed up favorite candies, cake, fudge and cookies! Bring the family or a date here. The music is relaxing and soft... gentle. There were more patrons here earlier but now I get this cool space all to myself as I recharge to get back on my mountain bike. The ladies running this spot are not relaxing even though I'm the only one here. They and banging pots and pans in the kitchen and prepping for whatever is next. Taking ownership... maybe they are the owners?!?! Anyway, I originally only wanted their chocolate cover English toffee and the I saw the smiling lady in line and decided I too want that happiness. They don't want business by the way they treat their customers. Awful service and subpar frozen yogurt. No wonder they don't give samples since the yogurt is so yuck. FYI, Menchies a block away is 10x better.
